Located in southwest Berlin, just a short trip from city centre and far enough away to relax with sports, a pool, a terrace, and a garden. The light-filled room (2nd floor, no lift) with handmade, solid-wood Pakistani furniture and an open-concept bathroom (freestanding bathtub—may not be suitable for older guests) on the 2nd floor lets you forget about everyday life. The room is equipped with a coffee maker, electric kettle, and blender; there’s also a gym in the basement and an unheated outdoor pool for a refreshing dip, plus a trampoline, terrace, and garden loungers. Light streams in from three sides into the attic room (2nd floor, stairs) featuring an extra-long double bed (2.20 m), a dressing table, and chairs. The freestanding bathtub offers delightful relaxation while swimming, though it may present a slight challenge for taller people when showering (no separate shower available). The sink is also mounted on a solid wooden table (a stool is provided underneath for shorter guests). On the refrigerator next to the sink, you’ll find a capsule coffee machine, a French press, a kettle, and a smoothie blender. Dishes and silverware are provided for two people, but there are no cooking facilities. These are available in the fully equipped shared kitchen on the ground floor. A radio/Bluetooth speaker, a laptop table for use in bed (for work or watching films), a safe with fingerprint/code access, and much more are also provided. The bathroom (for guests of this room only) is right next to the room door. Parking is available directly in front of the house’s garage (on the right side of the double garage, marked “140a”). From there, it’s about 12 metres to the front door. I’d love to chat with my guests over a cup of coffee or a glass of wine. However, no one should feel obligated to do so; if someone prefers some peace and quiet, that’s perfectly fine. The southwest of Berlin is a quiet and safe residential area, yet it offers plenty of restaurants, shopping, and—above all—recreational opportunities. Nature, with its fresh air, flora, and fauna, extends right into the garden. Otto Lilienthal (1848–1896) conducted his flight experiments in Lilienthal Park. At what is now the “Lichterfelde-Ost” regional and S-Bahn station, Werner Siemens demonstrated the feasibility of electric railways to the world in 1879. The locomotive, however, is on display at the Deutsches Museum in Munich. On Wednesdays and Saturdays (8:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.), the weekly market—featuring exotic fruits and regional organic products—attracts visitors from the area and the surrounding region. There is private parking in front of the garage, a bus stop right outside the front door (“Oberhofer Weg,” line 112), and another one (“Stanzer Zeile,” serving lines 112, M11, and X11) very close by. The nearby “Lichterfelde-Ost” station is an S-Bahn station (S25/S26) and also serves regional trains (RE4, RE5), so travellers can reach the main station in about 20 minutes—just three stops away. There is usually another guest in the house (1st floor, separate bathroom); sometimes my children are there as well, but the lop-eared cat is always there.
