Cosy mountain cabin right on the edge of the forest Built in the spring of 2023, this wooden cabin is located right on the edge of the Ostrong Massif—the highest peak in the Waldviertel region—and exudes a cosy, nostalgic atmosphere that is further enhanced by the cabin’s interior design. The wooden bunk beds for sleeping, which accommodate a total of 4 people, the sideboard adorned with wood carvings, and the crackling wood-burning stove—which can also be used for cooking—round out the inviting and pleasant atmosphere. You can enjoy the early morning hours on the log cabin’s terrace, accompanied by the chirping of birds and the first rays of sunlight falling on the cabin and onto the faces of our guests. In the garden, you’ll encounter our free-roaming animals—four cats, our dog Bobby, and our chickens, cockerels, and ducks. There is no running drinking water inside the house, but there is a sink outside where you can quench your thirst with fresh Ostronger spring water and wash up a bit. As in the old days, the toilet is located outside the house. In front of the house, you’ll find an outdoor granite trough with a hand pump. Heating is provided by a crackling wood-burning stove, which can also be used for cooking. There is also a small electric hotplate, as well as a kettle, coffee maker, and all the cookware you need, along with a refrigerator. I would like to politely point out that at this time of year, depending on weather conditions, (from around early November to around late March) the well directly in front of the mountain cabin and the wash area right next to it cannot be used, as the water supply lines are shut off to prevent them from freezing. Consequently, there is no running water available inside or outside the mountain hut. During this time of year, we provide our guests with drinking water free of charge. Below the mountain hut, in our garden, there is a fire pit where you can grill over an open fire and enjoy the starry nights in a cosy setting. Firewood for the fire pit and for the wood-burning stove in the 1000Kraut mountain hut is available from us at a price of 13 EUR per basket. Larger groups upon request. Check-in: 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Check-out: by 10:00 AM Keys are handed over in person on site. Pets: not allowed Local tax: 2.60 EUR per person/night - From 01.01.2027:: 2.70 EUR per person/night (for guests aged 15 and older). According to the house rules, guests are required to sort the trash they generate during their stay. We provide the trash bags and bins. If guests fail to sort their trash, we will charge a flat fee of 100.00 EUR. Bachelor and hen nights are not permitted here. Smoking is permitted outside the mountain cabin.
