About this property

Secluded idyll! 5min walk to town: very private, pool, air-con.

Casa Rosada boasts the perfect village location: serene rural setting, yet less than 10 min walk to the centre of Orgiva, a bustling market town. This charming, fully equipped and air-conditioned 2-bedroom traditional stone cottage is totally hidden from people's eyes - hidden behind its charming, walled-in garden. It has a 9m x 4m private pool (1.6m to 2.2m deep) exclusively for guests, 2 bathrooms, satellite TV, Internet and WiFi, table tennis and barbecue. The pool is fenced off for children's safety.

You can laze by the pool in perfect privacy in the pretty garden, invisible to the world, with only nature to look at, listening to bird song. Nestling in a valley at the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, Casa Rosada is ideally located to explore the best of the Alpujarra region - the authentic Spain, the cradle of flamenco. The vibrant city of Granada with its must-see Alhambra Palace is just 1 hr away. The beach, golf and the many picturesque ancient Moorish mountain villages offering spectacular walks and numerous fiestas all within ½ hr drive.

The house is suitable for children as the garden is fully enclosed, all the doors, windows and the patio are protected by metal grills and it is not near a busy road. and the pool is fenced off as a safety measure. The house is a bungalow, so accessible to those with mobility issues, although there are a few steps to the swimming pool. Babies or toddlers can sleep on the sofa bed in the huge master bedroom . An older child can sleep in the second bedroom which is 3 m away from the parents' bedroom via a safe private porch (with two steps), protected by a metal grill and not accessible from the outside. This is a double bed, so two children could share. There is also a sofa bed in the master bedroom and another one in the living room.

This is a self-catering villa. All bed linen, bath towels and poolside towels are included. We provide a thorough cleaning before and after your stay (included in the price) and toilet paper and hand wash liquid on arrival. There are many supermarkets in Orgiva, with the largest - Consum - open Mon - Sat inclusive, 9 am to 9.30 pm.

Orgiva is a small but bustling little town, capital of the Eastern Alpujarra region, and boasts a variety of excellent restaurants and bars, as well as all the facilities such as banks, Medical Centre, a variety of shops and supermarkets, as well as vibrant Saturday market with a crafts market.

Activities: river bathing, walking, riding, bicycle hire, yoga courses, massage (Thai, shiatsu, etc), many alternative therapies. The nearest beach is only a picturesque 30 min drive. Visit Granada with its famous Alhambra Palace for a day trip, and many beautiful mountain villages with breath-taking views only a few km away for a morning or afternoon visit. In Orgiva recreation centre you can play tennis, squash, football and badminton. Full information on the villa itself, Orgiva's amenities and the local area will be provided on arrival.

Perfect place of tranquility

What a wonderful 2 weeks we spent at Casa Rosada, loved the quirky villa , easy walking distance to the lovely village of Orgiva , the information we recieved from Anda was extremely useful and we visited some amazing places that they had suggested. We had great weather 30 degrees plus ! So the pool was welcoming and pefect size and depth for swimming. Communication was above and beyond what we usually receive when renting a villa, so happy we were able to stay here. Thank you to you both

Charming rustic house

We have just spent a lovely two weeks at Casa Rosada, a charming rustic home with fabulous secluded gardens and pool area. We had a couple of minor issues on arrival which were resolved within the hour after a quick message to Carmen who looks after the house beautifully. We would highly recommend this property for a chilled, peaceful holiday.

Quiet and Peaceful

A very comfortable villa with the physical layout working well for our teenage son who enjoyed being a bit separate from us, although he was always within earshot. Fantastic secluded pool set within a lovely garden with lots of shade for those needing a bit of protection from the Spanish midday sun!

Spacious villa with fantastic pool and lovely garden on edge of Orgiva town

We really loved staying here. The pool was our highlight (given that we were visiting in a heatwave, where the temperature was in the high 30’s every day). It was too hot to do much sightseeing, but the garden at the villa was just perfect for relaxing, reading, sketching and cooling off in the pool. The pool was large enough to have a really good swim, as well as being deep enough to dive, which gave us hours of fun. The house was spacious and well equipped. It stayed relatively cool in the hot weather, with just a bit of help form the air conditioning units for an hour or so before we went to bed. The town, with lots of bars and restaurants, was about a 15min walk away. We enjoyed eating out a few time and especially enjoyed the Thursday market.

A place to unwind

As a middle aged couple this was perfect for us. Lovely quiet location just outside the town but still within walking distance - took us about 15 minutes but maybe we are slow walkers. Great views of the mountains and a lovely walk up to the nearby small hamlet of Bayacas - worth a visit. Casa Rosada very homely, clean with a genuine rustic feel. Slightly quirky layout - see other reviews. Garden and pool lovely - though no shallow end (1.6m) as per description. Recommend the local supermarket Consum and outside cafe just by the big ORGIVA sign in the main square. Very good communication with the owner and with the local manager Carmen.

Nice but not suitable for young children

The locality - mountains around Orgiva are breathtaking, and the view from the cottage is nice. The cottage is reasonable, and could be a lovely getaway for a couple or small family with older children. However, all the jagged stone steps inside (e.g. cladding around the main bath) and out are difficult for toddlers - ours fell over frequently and bruised herself - not badly, but it was a daily event. The layout of the cottage is odd - 1 bedroom (2 singles) is adjoining the living room. The master bedroom adjoins the main house, but you had to go through the garden to get to it - a bit of a worry with a small child in the other part of the house, but we had a child listening device, so it was kind of OK. The walk to Orgiva wouldn't be suitable with a push chair (quite long and untreated road, limited lighting) and parking in Orgiva is very scarce, so we ended up driving to the coast nearly every day - about 45 mins around windy roads with stunning views.
Response from VrboOwner on 29 Mar 2020
We have taken the comment on board. The pool now has a child safety gate! And we have now made the two bedrooms more child friendly! They are now interconnected via a safe internal porch (enclosed by a metal grill), so there is no need to go through the garden, and the distance between the two bedrooms is now only 3m. Small children can, of course, sleep in the cot or on the sofa bed in the huge master bedroom, and many parents opt for that... And of course the brilliant news is that we now have a fantastic new asphalt road right up to the house!

Stunning pool and garden

Carmen was fantastic and even though we were late this was no problem and she met us later with a big smile. She was on hand to ask general questions via WhatsApp and when the water inexplicably stopped suddenly, she worked hard to get it reinstated. This is a beautiful home but the layout didn’t quite work for us. The smaller bedroom accessed from the living room is joined to the master via a floor to ceiling fenced in porch but for even older children this can be a bit daunting as whilst it is secure, it is open and anyone can get access round the back of the house. They wouldn’t be able to access the house but the kids found it a bit weird that someone could see in. It’s a shame because everything else was amazing! The pool and garden with mountain views are to die for!

Great Location, Very Private Villa

Easy booking and excellent communication. We were met in Orgiva as planned by Carmen and led to the villa. The villa was very clean. The garden was superb, well screened by many plants. The pool was excellent, long enough for some good swimming and very private. The kitchen was well equipped. Everything worked, including the WiFi. A problem with the gas supply to the cooker was fixed within 20 minutes of contacting Carmen. The final approach to the villa looked more imposing from the road than it was. We did note that ground clearance beneath the car was low in places. We found the bed in the master bedroom to be very soft, which caused some issues with back pain for one member of the party. We do appreciate that this is a personal preference, and will be fine if you are happy sleeping on a soft bed. The porch, mentioned in many other reviews, has a roof and is enclosed on the outside by floor to ceiling metal railings. It is totally secure, and whilst not private, the neighbouring house does not seem to be used much and was only occupied for one afternoon during our week's stay. There are good walks up the valley from the house. The routes can be hard to find: our local maps didn't show all the routes. We found the Strava app best for route finding: it shows you where walkers have gone before, revealing some interesting routes in the hills and the possibility of walking to the higher villages for coffee or lunch.

Not as good as it looks on the listing

The location data given is inaccurate. The property is on Calle Fuente Mariano, 20 mins walk to the town centre 1.4km away. Access via single track tarmac road, then a short stony section with a ford at the end. We were not told this despite requesting location details in advance. The listing photos show the cortijo in detail and street views including one showing part of the Ermita San Sebastián. This, along with the "5 minutes walk to town" description, led us to believe that the location must be between the Ermita and the town centre. This would have been the right location for us, and this influenced our decision to book it. If we had had accurate info. we would not have booked it. The cortijo has a lovely garden and pool and is well equipped, but we had a few issues: -Pool - nice size and setting, but the "shallow" end, at approx. 5 feet 8 inches, we thought too deep for young children or less confident swimmers. -"Master bedroom" - has no direct internal connection to the main building. To reach it you must either: go out the main door and cross the garden/patio, or: go through the second bedroom, then through a door to an outside utility area, to find another door to the master bedroom. Both these routes are well supplied with mosquitos at night. For this reason we did not use the master bedroom. -The hot water supply was erratic. -VPN for the TV only worked for 5 minutes at a time. -A welcome pack would have been appreciated, considering the price of the rental.

Oh dear. The "town" is 950m away, ie to the restaurant El Limonero, the Post Office and shops, and another 100m and you are right in the very centre by the church! Or take the short cut to the upper part of town (where the Ermita is) - again a 10 min walk. The "ford" was only there, as there was some meltdown from the snow when you arrived. Now, sadly all gone. I'm sorry if we don't provide a welcome pack, as this is self-catering. As for the TV, there was a storm that moved the satellite dish sideways, which the visitor who came after you reported on day one of their stay, which enabled us to call in the technician and rectify it the same day. Had your reported it yourself straight away, rather than suffer in silence, you would have also had it resolved straight away. I hope it didn't spoil your holiday too much!

Secluded, shady, lovely place to be

What a great place to hang out in the Andalucian sun. Just outside of Orgiva (10-15 min walk when it is hot, especially on the slight incline back,), this a gem of a place. A beautifully planted walled garden, with shade and a pool. Quirky, authentic house with air con in the front room. Big bedroom with a comfy bed, with smaller bedroom if needed. Completely secluded so no need to worry about getting dressed every time you dip in the pool - no one can see in, so clothes optional! Anda could not have been more helpful with any requests - read her instructions before you arrive as she has your best interests in mind. You do NOT need a 4x4 on the tiny bit of stony/gravel road into the well appointed parking spot! Relax and enjoy… we will definitely be back. Thanks so much Anda, we really appreciated your beautiful Casa Rosado.

Quirky & Unusual

Orgiva is a beautiful town with fantastic views of the hills and mountains. The drive (½ km) up to the property through a narrow winding single dirt track from Orgiva is an interesting experience. A dusty journey for walkers and pushing a buggy may prove difficult as the track is very poor with loose stones. It was very dark at night (I did not notice any lighting but I would not walk it at night either) and really more suited to the sure footed. The ‘ford’ was flowing on a couple of occasions but only an inch or two deep max, so to drive through was no problem at all although a little steep both on the way in and out but access might be tricky for sports or low vehicles. The lounge, dining room and garden furniture all appeared very tired and worn and in need of replacement. With limited hanging space and no drawers at all in the master bedroom we did not unpack but lived from our cases for our 2 weeks. Although the 2nd bedroom did have a wardrobe and a very small bedside cabinet with 3 very shallow drawers it was just not practical to use the wardrobe in one room a sleep in another. The concrete steps, some quite high, (including those in the adjoining narrow area between the master bedroom and the property) are not child friendly at all or for anyone unsteady on their feet, particularly in the dark or when using the bathrooms at night. The garden and pool area are indeed very pretty but spoilt due to overgrown trees which limit the amount of sunshine to the pool, making it uncomfortably cold and reduce the available light to the property, making it appear somewhat gloomy when entering. If it is a villa with light airy rooms you seek then this property is not for you. We only used the pool and BBQ once and the lack of parking space in Orgiva caused us to drive through it mostly heading for either the mountains or the beach in both cases soaking up the summer sunshine until well into the evening. Overall we were a little dissapointed with the property but Orgiva the mountains and the beautiful resort of Almunecar I would thoroughly recommend to all.

Hi Brian and Jenny, you will be pleased to know that we now have a super brand-new asphalted road to Casa Rosada! We are thrilled! A perfect 3 min drive to town - or a 10 minute walk to town , which is now a pleasure, and easy even with a buggy! We now have our own private car park just outside the house. And of course for those on foot, we have our own little bridge to cross the ford, which incidentally only runs (if ever, with the climate change...) from November to March. It is a shame that you did not think to mention this in your comments. I would add that most people think that the lovely greenery we are blessed with is in part of the garden a bonus, as you can sunbathe if you like or loll about in the shade - the choice is yours! And of course your comments about storage space in the master bedroom are truly incomprehensible. The master bedroom has massive storage space: a lock-in cupboard with 5 shelves, plenty of hanging space and three huge, deep shelves besides. So obviously there is no need for a piece of furniture called a chest of drawers on top of all that.

Excellent

This was my second stay at Casa Rosada. The property is in a rural setting on the outskirts of town. The beautiful garden is totally secluded with a decent size pool to swim in. The inside of the house is rustic and charming, very well equiped, with all the facilities that we needed during our stay. The master bedroom is really quaint with steps leading up to the double bed. Orgiva is a ten minute stroll away or you can park for free in the car park near the petrol station. There are plenty of shops, restaurants and tapas bars and a lively market on a Thursday. Here, you will find various stalls as well as a good selection of local produce. Orgiva is well located as a base to visit the villages of Lanjaron, Bubion, Campanernia, Pampernia (a must visit) and Granada. The scenery along the way is breath taking! After three days of village hopping we didn't venture out much and just relaxed and enjoyed the tranquility of the garden. The whole booking process was smooth. Anda was great during the whole process and sent detailed directions and contact details prior to our arrival. Carmen our meet and greet person was lovely and helpful during our stay. Fab relaxing holiday.

Green jewel of a garden.

My husband and I stayed at this property on a last minute impulse, and we were not disappointed. The weather was gorgeous and the accommodation charming and well-appointed. We thoroughly enjoyed the good-sized swimming pool and the verdant, 'secret' garden with its stunning views of the Alpujarras and gorgeous, ancient doors! We walked into Orgiva every night to eat and lazed by the pool in the day: perfect. I thoroughly recommend this property if you want tranquillity and relaxation.

Charming cottage in gorgeous walled gardens

We have just stayed in Casa Rosada - with lovely, swimmable weather in early October! Casa Rosada is the perfect place to enjoy the peace and tranquility of the unspolit Spanish countryside, while being only a few minutes' walk into town, and if you prefer to drive, there is a private car park right next to the house. We loved the private pool with mountain view, surrounded by flowers, and the freedom to be completely un-overlooked - also while swimming. The interior of the house is thoughtfully and tastefully equipped with everything we needed. The house is very peaceful and secure for children and it was easy to keep an eye on my 7-year old daughter while she played. When we finally did tear ourselves away from the poolside, Orgiva has many bars and restaurants within a short stroll, and there are interesting villages nearby for day trips, such as Pampaneira and Bubion. Lovely beaches are 30 minutes away, and the stunning, historic Granada an hour door-to-door. Casa Rosada in an absolute gem, perfect for restorative break; only wish we could have stayed longer. But we will certainly return!

A very relaxing place

The property provided a very relaxing holiday. It is secluded and shady whilst still offering plenty of opportunity to sunbathe. Clean and reasonably well stocked, do take your own kitchen towels. The showers were disappointing, powerful but cheap fittings so rarely stayed still sending water everywhere and the one by the twin room is hand held only! The mountains are stunning and hide some very pretty villages to drive out to. The driveway is not for the cautious driver, whilst wide enough it is more like a rocky mountain path and would recommend a 4x4. We felt it as also too dusty and dark to make a pleasant walk to the village for dinner so ended up driving.

Shower heads: we have already changed them. They were fine the week before your holiday - you only had to ask, and Carmen would have gladly changed them - and added more tea towels! As for 'rocks'... I think you are referring to the gravel on the drive, which, incidentally is a rew metres long gentle incline. No-one has ever mentioned finding it strange to drive on before, let alone need a 4x4...

Relaxing

The house is amazing and more than lived up to expectations. Quiet. Beautiful garden and pool. Kitchen fully equipped. Arrangements smooth and helpful. Totally recommend for a chill out retreat. We will be back for sure.

Most relaxing Holiday ever!

Having stayed in Orgiva twice before in very nice villas, I wanted to make sure I chose another that was just as good after reading load of reviews, we settled on this one.... We were not disappointed Casa Rosada is the perfect get away from it all (without being far from town) . We had a great time it the most relaxing holiday ever! Casa Rosada is enclosed in a walled garden making it very private & secure. Anda provided us with very useful information. The car hire she recommended was the bargain of the holiday! Our Flight was delayed nearly 3 hours due to the French air traffic control a quick phone call to Carmen (who will meet you in Orgiva & show you to the villa) and we rearranged the meeting time. There is loads to do in the area, the beach & Moorish Castle in Salobreña, Alhambra Palace in Granada, if you fancy a longer trip Ronda is a fascinating city, also the market on Thursdays in Orgiva will get you some bargains, If you’re buying clothing etc make sure you haggle over the price, All in all it was a perfect holiday and highly recommended, we have just booked up for next year in another of Anda's properties, but we may be back to this one in the future
