About this property

Bright, Charming 3-BR Apartment In Hudson

Staying here is designed to feel like borrowing the immaculate home of a friend who has provided pretty much every little thing you could need or want to feel at home.

Blue Skies is named for its gracious ambiance and sky-colored ceilings throughout. The apartment, which is on the second floor, is set up to comfortably accommodate six in the three bedrooms, with a twin daybed for a seventh. Blue Skies, which has its own thermostat and air conditioning, is comprised of seven rooms: a spacious living room; an anteroom off the living room (with French doors and the daybed); a dining room; full kitchen (with fridge, oven, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, and dishwasher); three comfortable bedrooms (two with queen-size beds, one of those with featherbed; and one with a full); and a bathroom with clawfoot tub and an abundance of white towels and toiletries (including but not limited to shampoo, conditioner, toothbrushes, and Band-Aids). Blue Skies is very clean and very comfortable, and exudes the welcoming warmth of an art-filled salon.

This house was built shortly after the Civil War, and the public spaces — living room, dining room and kitchen — are spacious. The cozy bedrooms are generously appointed with pillows, soft linens, blankets and cozy rugs, and all the beds are super comfortable.

This house presents as a single-family, but the first two floors function as independent apartments. Should you wish to rent both floors of the house, the hallway doors can be opened up so that it functions perfectly as a single-family house for larger groups or family reunions.

Union Street, and my block in particular, has the lovely settled energy of an older neighborhood. It's quiet and peaceful here, yet only a minute's walk from the middle of Warren Street, Hudson's happening main drag with its varied restaurants, wine bars, art galleries, boutiques, and all manner of fashions - antique and au courant - for home and humans.

Hudson is a very small city, and you can explore all of it easily on foot. Warren Street, Hudson's main artery, is a minute's leisurely stroll from the house, and there is street parking all around. Hudson is about 120 miles from New York City, a two-hour train ride from Penn Station, and 48 miles from Albany International Airport (ALB). Although you can walk anywhere in town from the house, the closest supermarkets, movie theaters and fast food are located in strip malls 1-1/2 to 3-1/2 miles away (thus preserving Hudson's remarkable architectural continuity). There are taxis, a car rental agency, and two places to rent bicycles (one of which also rents skis and kayaks) in town.

The Catskills, Frederick Church's Olana and river beaches — to name just three of the Hudson Valley's memorable offerings — are all a 10- or 15-minute drive, and more easily accessed by car.

I am reachable by e-mail or phone from booking through your stay — and usually available in person while you're here. Please message me with information about the number of people in your party and the reason for your visit so I know how to best accommodate your needs.

Blue Skies is smoke-free, and I am very sorry to say that I cannot accept pets. In order to change linens and keep the place bright and shiny, a weekly cleaning fee will be added to all stays of more than a week. We'll coordinate whatever time(s) works for you to have the place turned over every week.

Well-Appointed, Beautiful Apartment
I booked this property for a girls trip to Hudson. Prior to our visit, Ellen provided a detailed outline of recommendations ranging from tours, to restaurants, to the best places to go for a swim. It really helped in our planning as this was our first time to the town. Upon arrival, she showed us around the property which is stunning. Every piece of artwork has a story and the backyard garden had hummingbirds to welcome us! The rooms themselves were spacious and was more than enough space for 3 women. The kitchen had every gadget and pot/pan you would need to cook a feast with dishes to spare. The bathroom had a lovely tub/shower with the softest towels, and plenty of shampoo, conditioner, and soaps. I’ve stayed in other VRBOs which are so minimally stocked, but not this place. She really went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Additionally, the home was spotless. The beds were very comfortable with real furniture, not the cheap IKEA furniture some short term rentals will offer. The photos do show the beauty of the place, but really the amenities and high quality comfort of the furniture ensured a great stay. And last but not least, it’s a block away from the main shopping/restaurant area- Warren Street. So once you park your car, you won’t need it again until you’re ready to head home. You can easily walk to all the best spots in town. It was a great time and for anyone thinking about where to stay in Hudson….. go visit Ellen and this beautiful home. You won’t be disappointed!

What a delight. If you are drawn to the photos...you will love this beautiful home. Impeccably clean. Ellen was completely available at all times. The most kind intelligent host I've yet to meet. It is walking distance from all fun restaurants, bars, shopping. Lovely neighborhood. Plan to go back ,seasonally, from now on . Very relaxing and delightful re-set for me and my husband. Thank you, wonderful Ellen. Suzanne and Greg Kraus/Wrobel

Wonderful host and lovely property
We had a wonderful experience staying at Ellen’s lovely home. She met us at the door and welcomed us with a tour of the home and great information about Hudson. The home is spotless with plenty of fluffy white towels and literally everything you could possibly need in the kitchen. Such a lovely experience!

Highly Recommend!!
My friend and I reserved a weekend in November for a weekend getaway to catch up on some reading and writing. We had to reschedule for personal reasons and Ellen was super accommodating, walking us through the process of re-booking. We ended up staying at Ellen's property in late February and it couldn't have been better! Ellen met me and explained the neighborhood, the apartment and had useful suggestions about restaurants and grocery stores. The apartment was clean and cozy, with a fully stocked kitchen. I am sorry that we didn't plan to cook that much that weekend and will definitely do that when I return! My friend and I did not have a car and had planned to stick close to the town. There was still plenty for us to do and amazing restaurants for each evening. I imagine if you had a car you could explore the surrounding area a bit more. But getting to/from the Amtrak station was an easy walk even with light luggage. All in all the apartment in Hudson was perfect and Ellen was an amazing host! I am definitely heading back!

About the host

Hosted by Ellen Liburt

Host profile image
I have lived in Hudson, a vibrant mini-city on the banks of the Hudson River, since 1999. It is my pleasure to offer you a peaceful, comfortable home base from which to explore and enjoy Hudson and the Hudson Valley.

Why they chose this property

Because it has a House Fairy! who bears a striking resemblance to me, your hostess. Please let me know the number of people in your party, or if it changes; the reason for your visit; and any other requests so that I can better accommodate your needs.

What makes this property unique

There's not a better location in town; Blue Skies enjoys the tranquility of a safe, settled historic neighborhood, but is just a block from the bustle of Warren Street.
