Welcoming house in the heart of West Cornwall, dog-friendly and near the beach
A delightful dorma house nestling in the grounds of the historic 16th Century Kenegie Manor. Perfectly positioned for touring the whole of Cornwall with a wealth of popular beaches and attractions to suit all tastes within easy reach.
Property is dog friendly and sleeps four (one double bed and two singles) with one bathroom. There is an open plan living room and kitchen with a dining table. Kitchen is fitted out with everything you need to make yourselves at home, and the living room host two sofas, a TV and a DVD player.
The courtyard outside with table and chairs leading onto the grounds of the Manor is an ideal space to enjoy BBQ's and Cornwall's beautiful Summer evenings.
Relax in the extensive manor gardens or enjoy the facilities on offer which include a heated indoor swimming pool, tennis courts, and a licensed bar.
Penzance being just a short drive from Kenegie Manor, offers you an easily accessible holiday centre with great shopping and dining. Forget preconceptions of a sleepy port town at the end of the London to Cornwall railway line. Penzance has thriving Arts and restaurant scenes, is popular among sailing enthusiasts and, along with picturesque neighbouring Newlyn, makes a perfect base for exploring West Cornwall.
Only 6 miles away a visit to St Ives is a must. A warm welcoming Mediterranean atmosphere awaits for beach lovers and surfers. Each of St Ives beaches offer its own charm and appeal. Try the world-class blue flag Porthmeor beach with its surf school, sunbathing, water sports and spectacular sunsets. Or sample the delights of sheltered blue flag Porthminster beach, ideal for families with its half a mile of golden sands. If you prefer small sandy coves then try Porthgwidden beach, a local sun trap. By contrast, watch the local fisherman as they land freshly caught seafood at the Harbour beach.
Visit the Isles of Scilly with only six inhabited islands and numerous rocky islets lying 28 miles off Cornwall’s western tip, could the Scilly Isles be Britain’s best-kept holiday secret - and the highlight of your Cornish holiday? There are daily sailings from Penzance on the Scillonian III ferry. Its never been easier to reach Cornwall’s unspoilt island paradise.
Whatever you do in Cornwall, don’t miss St Michaels’s Mount. Just three miles from your Kenegie Manor base, this unmissable landmark is Cornwall’s counterpart to Normandy’s Mont Saint Michel. Owned by The National Trust, Saint Michael’s Mount is one of England's best-known and most dramatic coastal attractions. The harbourside village has been a home to a close community for centuries. As a busy port in the mid-nineteenth century, the population peaked at around three hundred. Today you will find a small community that looks forward to greeting you with a cheerful ‘Dydh da’ (‘Good day’) when you visit.
Whether you just want something different or you’re missing West End culture, why not visit Cornwall’s ‘theatre under the stars’ at The Minack Theatre, near the little village of Porthcurno with its gorgeous cove of white sand and aquamarine sea .
Another short drive south of Kenegie Manor, the appeal of Mousehole transcends the seasons: in summer, laze on its safe beach, wander its quaint lanes and courtyards, or dine in cosy harbourside hostelries. Come winter, marvel at the sea’s awesome power and delight at the famous 'Mousehole lights'. Based on old Mousehole legends, the Christmas lights will thrill the whole family - before you enjoy a warming drink and enormous crab sandwich beside The Ship Inn’s roaring fires.

Set on a pleasant site, nicely kept with grass and trees, the house was clean and reasonably well equipped. A hair dryer would be a useful addition. Be aware of charges for connection to Wi-Fi .
Such a great location to explore from. Tidy home just as pictured, however cleanliness could be improved a tad. Cobwebs especially around windows and my husband needed to clean out the shower plug after a couple of days, to stop shower tray from flooding. Site is very quiet and convenient with the little on site shop area and bar. Didn't try the pool, sauna or hot tub on this occasion as we were so busy going out and about. Wonderful host with swift communication and accommodated a change in arrival time. Everything we needed apart from towels and a really cosy home from home. I hope we can stay again.

decorated .Kenegie Manor is a tranquil resort with enough activities onsite to keep our family entertained, one of the highlights was watching and listening to the Bryher boys sea shanties which we really enjoyed. We had a great stay thanks to all.

Hi Paul Thank you for your lovely review and I'm thrilled you had a lovely stay. The Bryher boys are fantastic aren't they :)
We spent a week here, but would have liked to have stayed longer. It’s a lovely property, well looked after and very clean on arrival. The check in process was easy as well as check out. Jane put together a very informative welcome back with some great ideas for some days out and things to do.
Both bedrooms were a good size as was the lounge and kitchen. I can’t think of anything more we would have wanted.
Jane was very helpful when we did contact her with some questions. I would definitely stay here again when I’m back in Cornwall. It is a great place to stay and easy to get to pretty much everywhere. Thank you for a lovely stay, Jane!

Thank you for your review Tracy and I’m thrilled you had a lovely holiday. Take care. Jane
House very clean , but the explanations in the web are not clear enough ,so you encounter discrepancies with the facilities and it’s using only once you are there . Also the pictures posted , are not really connected with the place where the house is . But other than that everything went ok . And they are pet friendly so that have an added point in their favour. .

Hello Barbara. Thank you so much for your review. With regard to the facilities at Kenegie Manor, due to H&S the swimming pool has a maximum capacity which means you need to book a slot with reception. I'm delighted you enjoyed your stay. With warmest wishes Jane

Disappointment 😞
We were disappointed with our stay. The cottage we originally booked looked nice in the pictures, however, right before our stay we were informed that cottage we booked was not available due to a leak. They assigned us a different cottage and said it was the "exact same as what we had booked originally ".
Upon arrival into the cottage the first thing we see on as you open the door is a bottle of insect killer that the owners had left us. There was a mass amount of flying ants as soon as you walked in. It was disgusting.
Then as we walked through we found the cottage to be extremely dirty! Cob webs in the cobers, stains on the carpet, dirty dishes, dirty baby wipes under the bed, mold around the back of the toilet, and the smell of damp through out. We complained to the person we originally booked through and was offered a 2nd clean. 2nd? Was it even cleaned in the first place?
We had driven 4.5hrs, with 2 kids who were very excited to be on a holiday so we stayed. We went and bought some cleaning wipes and a couple candles to help cover the smell. We rewashed the dishes before use.
Cons: dirty run down cottage, £7/load of laundry, sauna and steam room closed, pool is small and crowded, not walkable to shops, no walking trails near as its on a busy B road, pub doesn’t open all day and only serves on pizza and bbq night.
Pro: location is quite, lots of parking, staff at the pub tried their best to have something for families every night and were kind.

Hi Bonnie
I am very sorry to hear about your experience with this alternative accommodation. Due to a flood in my property which resulted in a collapsed ceiling my cottage was no longer able to be occupied whilst repairs were being carried out. I wanted to find a solution for the bookings I already had in the coming weeks, so looked for alternative accommodation. The only solution I had was to offer accommodation in the same holiday park (but owned and managed by another owner). I phoned you to offer this as an option, as opposed to having to cancel at such short notice in school holidays. Upon your agreement I secured this new property at additional expense which I covered. I really didn’t want to let you or any of my other guests down during the summer and I felt this was a good solution (especially as I was assured the other properties were of a very high standard and run by the estate itself). However, upon hearing the experience you had, I am very disappointed to hear this was not the high standard expected.
I have since had a conversation with the property owner (for the alternative cottage you stayed in) to discuss this feedback and express my frustrations also about the cleaning issue. Although they did come in again to clean their property, I appreciate this must have been frustrating.
My properly is a family holiday home that we take pride and care in. And I’m very sorry that the experience you had was not what we would have provided had you been in ours. I really felt that cancelling a few weeks before you were due to arrive with no solution would have been unfair, so I wanted to try and find alternative accommodation.
The location of our property in on the same estate and a beautiful part of Cornwall. Kenegie Manor is set in an 11-acre estate and there is a public footpath opposite the entrance which takes you across the fields to Gulval and then on to either Penzance, Marazion or Tremenheere. There are also numerous coastal walks which I detail in my welcome pack. However, we would always advise a car is needed as with many places in that part of the country there’s lots to explore, (beaches, shops and towns will be about a 5-10 min drive).
On the estate itself The Old Forge bar is open from 4:00pm until 11:00pm and there is entertainment each night for families, including Funtime Cash Bingo, Family Fun Night, Games and Disco, Karaoke, complimentary BBQ and family Quiz night. I am not sure why the sauna or steam room were closed, but the pool is managed and numbers are controlled to avoid overcrowding.
Once again, I’m very sorry about the experience you had, and equally frustrated. With a partially collapsed celling due to a shower flood I had no option but to either cancel or find alternative accommodation.
With best wishes
Jane

We had a great time, kids enjoyed the Halloween week. Only downside was the property is quite damp so it was a struggle to keep clothes from smelling mouldy but I hear its a common thing in Cornwall. Overall it was a nice stay and I would love to come back again. Thank you
Chose Cornwall for the first time in 22 years and apart from the journey there and home, it was a nice break. Weather not fantastic but a very beautiful part of the country to visit.

Hello. Just finished a week's stay here. Lovely property, perfect for what we needed and very clean. Nice touches around. Good location to get around to all local places of interest where you really are spoilt for choice
There was an issue at check in but this was nothing to do with the property owner who offered a very generous token of gesture which I refused as was not her fault but was another sign of excellent communication and care from Jane. Didnt use any of the facilities here so cannot comment but a perfect base.
Would love to stay here again, not sure how many holidays I have with my older kids 🤣🤣

Cottage was very clean and was a fab base for visiting nearby Penzance, Paar Sands, Kaydence Cove, St Michaels Mount. Nice little pool on site that can be used by guests if book in advance. Some facilities not open due to COVID, hot tub, coffee shop etc. Cottage could do with a bit of an update with some of it’s furniture but overall a very pleasant, comfortable stay with all the basics for exploring Cornwall. Thank you

I was born in Bristol but come from a Cornish farming family, so Cornwall has always been very close to my heart. I currently work for a charity in Bristol that support young adults with learning disabilities.
Stuart and I bought this house when our daughter was only 3 years old (she's now 24) and we've since had many wonderful family holidays there. It's still a very treasured place for our family and we regularly travel down to enjoy all that Cornwall has to offer.
