Saybrook Almost Beach-Front, Private Beach, Boat Launch, Shallow Dock, Secluded
This water view, beach access home is located just one house away from the beach. The house features four bedrooms, one full bath and one outdoor shower. Bountiful fine white sand beaches are just a few steps down your own private path to the beach. This beach access home is located on Toms Road in a very private section of Plum Bank Beach within Old Saybrook. Plum Bank is a strip of fine white sand bordered on one side by Long Island Sound and on the other side by acres of salt marshes.
Safe swimming conditions for children because of small waves, no undertow, and no fast drop off. Low tide reveals hundreds of yards of clean sandbars and shallow tidal pools which are a great place for kids to play safely and for long walks. Striped Bass are readily caught by surf casting from the beach in front of these homes. Walk on your private path to the beach about 75' away.
This house is adjacent to a vacant lot owned by the same owner. The vacant lot abuts the salt marsh tidal waterway. The vacant lot has a private boat launch ramp that may be used at your own risk to launch a lightweight shallow draft boat. The vacant lot may also be used for additional parking.

We truly enjoyed our stay even though we had some rain! The living room is large enough for everyone to work on a puzzle or play a game - so we weren't bored. The access to the water via the dock was great for our kayaks and paddle boards. And walking the beach at low tide was awesome - even when it wasn't sunny. We walked to both the town beach and Harvey's Beach. There were a lot of fans, but if you book a really hot week, it doesn't hurt to bring 1 or 2 more. There is only 1 bathroom, but with the outside shower it worked out fine. The kitchen is fine and has a really long table, but our favorite spot to eat was the porch.
Perfect beach house if your goal is to have a cottage feel with 80 steps to the ocean. Great for kids with awesome low tide and nice spot for fishing and crabbing in the backyard.
Family of seven with 5 adult kids ages 19-30. The space was big enough for all of us with the front yard big enough for regulation corn hole and shady for a break from the sun. The beach was right out front. We loved it at both high and low tides- definitely plan happy hour on the sand bar if your tides are right. We crabbed, kayaked and used our flat bottom jon boat off the private docks in back. The extra parking was priceless. I thought the listing said two bathrooms but I was mistaken. Thankfully the one bathroom worked out for us and the plumbing held up to all seven of us. We definitely used the outdoor shower and the extra hose for rinsing at the back door was invaluable. We used the grill and laundry facilities. There were enough pots pans and dishes for our mostly breakfast and lunch cooking. Plenty of seating inside and out. My 80+ year old folks came one afternoon and I’m glad they didn’t stay with us because the stairs would’ve been too much for them and the toilet was too low but we had no difficulty with it. We all enjoyed our stay.
We loved this house. It was old but that gave it that beach cottage feel. The private beach was only steps away and we loved fishing and crabbing off the dock. Would definately recommend.
Hosts are awesome and communicate very well. This place is all about the location.... 10 second walk to a private beach which is really all that matters. House is adequate with a good size living room .... it was clean.... no central air but we knew that and brought fans.... house is dated inside but everything worked. If you looking for a lavish house with top grade amenities this is. not for you however you will pay double to get those. For the price and location you can’t beat it. Would rent again!
Our family have been going thru VRBO annually for over 10 years now, renting homes from NH to Myrtle Beach. This was our worst rental yet. I spoke to the very pleasant owner to get check-in instructions. I wished the owner's pleasantness and the perfect almost beach-front location of the house could have made up for the condition of the house we found ourselves in. We had approval to check in early at 2:00 (Sunday) having been told that the house was cleaned the day before (Saturday). To the owner, please check with your cleaning service because they sure didn't do a good job.
-as soon as we entered, all we could smell was the mustiness. With Covid, we expected a smell of bleach or cleaning agents. We had to spray and sanitize the place ourselves.;
-floors were so dirty, we needed to vacuum.
-closets, the outdoor shower and the back porch / furnitures were full of cobwebs; so too was the garage where the washer/dryer are located rendering them unusable.
-instructions were to bring our own linens; good thing because the sheets and the mattress cover in the bedroom to the right of the stairs had blood stains.
-coffee pot was full of molds.
-the refrigerator was dirty
We loved the beach access and the quaintness of the old house but cleanliness should be the utmost importance specially with what we're dealing nowadays. It left an unpleasant experience to what could have been a much awaited family beach vacation after a 3-month quarantine.

Charming beach house!
The house has great water views and backs up to the marsh with docks for crabbing and fishing. Great spot for the kids! Front porch is an ideal spot for coffee in the morning while enjoying the view.

Home just off a beautiful beach, perfect for children
Because the week was so warm & humid, house became a bit uncomfortable. Front deck was nice! Place was not exactly clean though & lacked some basic necessities like toilet paper, soap, paper towels & a working fan for the living room.
So glad you provided the Pack & Play for the baby.

perfect destination for a hideaway. A shady spot on the beach, how rare and wonderful.
Great house for a runaway week or weekend. Cool shady spot, yet right on the beach. Comfortable beds and plenty of room. Sunsets just a stroll away. Couldn't have been happier with our weekend getaway. Private and quiet, everything anyone could want. Loved it!

Why they chose this property
This section of the Connecticut shoreline has been described as the most beautiful place in Connecticut: http://www.onlyinyourstate.com/connecticut/harveys-beach-ct/
What makes this property unique
Secluded and private surrounded by expansive water views to the East and to the West. The acres of clean firm sandbars that appear at low tide provide an amazing and safe playground for kids. It is "the best beach in the world" for kids! What is also unique is that we have three large maple trees that provide wonderful shade which is unique for a property so close to the beach. The convenience of a private boat launch is also a unique feature of this property.
