About this property

West Shore Lake Champlain Sunsets and Mountain Views

Overlooking the adirondack mountains and Lake Champlain, on a 9 mile island connected by land bridge to Alburg, V.T.

Located on historic Isle La Motte, home of the oldest coral reef in the world and in an area President Teddy Roosevelt visited , just down the street. A 500 million year old reef fossilized into stone, some of the stone even used to build into this Villa.

Our Lakefront:
This is a good swimming spot for kids and adults. It’s clean water up here away from city areas, and it also has a rare combination of a softer beach area mix of small shale and sand, even gradual slope in the water and on the beach, very few weeds due to a rock bottom, good wave action in heavy weather and a 60 foot depth about 1/2 mile from shore, which keeps fresh supply of water coming in. Our lakefront is listed in the fishing lake Champlain book as one of the best regional spots to fish, directly off our shore about 400 feet out, due to a glacier formed rock ledge underwater. Our dock extends 30 feet and people have caught many fish just fishing off the shore and the dock.

This island is rich in history to the Champlain Valley, and is home to the first establishment of civilization in Vermont starting in 1609 and the first Catholic settlement in Vermont, St. Anne's shrine. This property was part of the historic Apple farms on the island from early 1800's, and there are still a couple very old huge apple trees on our woodland area, and a apple orchard just down the street.

Great for extended family and friends coming on vacation as a group. With 6 bedrooms it sleeps 14+ with ease.

This a spacious home, great for vacation fun by the lakeside, reminding you of days of your youth. Large chef-style Kitchen, vaulted ceilings, birch wood and tile floors, 3 decks, 1 farmers porch and 1 screened in room, a large field stone fireplace and a Firepit table near the lake for keeping warm at night and making Smores.

Located on 12.9 acres, 140 feet of lakefront in front of this home. Two horseshoe pits, 1 row boat and 1 paddle boat, boat mooring for up to 27' boat, 31 feet of aluminum dock, new stainless steel double-hood outdoor gas grilling and searing gourmet center, A larger firepit table / charcoal grille off the rear deck, great cellular phone reception, updated horseshoe pits in back yard, volleyball / badminton setup, and sporting goods on premises ($100 refundable deposit required for horse shoes, badminton and volleyball.

Isle La Motte has some presidential history in that Teddy Roosevelt was in Isle La Motte when he became President by default at a friends place visiting, he was about a half mile down the way from our property on the same street when he got the news. The European discoverer of the lake basin, Samuel De Champlain made the first European settlement of Vermont ever in Isle La Motte. There are many historical points all around the islands to see.

There is a historical country store, many good restaurants, marinas, boat rentals, and a number of other things to do on the islands. And we also include a number of historical books in our library at the home, and many boats, kayaks and canoe as well, along with bicycles to move yourself along the quiet lane along the lake that our property is at. If you can appreciate Vermont country charm, nature and beautiful lake and mountain views, then you will not need to go anywhere once your here.
Just down the street from historic Fisk farm, St Anne's Shrine, Isle La Motte Preservation Trust, Goodsell Ridge, The happy bird country store (part of Embers Gardens), coffee and pastry shop, Home made maple ice cream and food, Alburgh Dunes State Park, and Hero's Welcome. We are within an hour of Famed Church Street in Burlington Vt., Parc Safari adventures, Plattsburgh, Saint Albans Vt., and Montreal, QC.

Note: Air Conditioning is available as an option but on VRBO and some other venues not showing as such. Cost is $125 energy surcharge per week. Other options are dog fee, up to 2 well behaved dogs for $140/week. Hot tub room access $240 per week. Can be pro rated for shorter stays.

Nature has it's share of imperfections, and yet there is much natural beauty to see here on the islands. Our home could be compared in a similar way. Perfectionism we are not, but much inspiration, peace with nature and enjoyment is easily found here. Make Lake Champlain Home your home away from home this season!

**COVID and its isolation, disinfecting and anti-viral cleaning measures are of high importance to us and we are taking the proper precautions to ensure our property is protected. Please message us if your having trouble booking shorter stays. Currently you can legally come to Vermont and enjoy our property as long as your not in public places for up to 14 days. Stay safe and healthy and enjoy our property with confidence. If you have some “essential” meeting or work plans, then the rules are just limited to basic hygiene rules. *Updated 11-11-23.

Don't miss our Autumn Season with beautiful foliage, Lake and Mountain views, Apple Orchards, Pumpkin picking and all the seasonal fun! The weather is usually great for these activities and more!

Spring is an amazing season for this island area, 2023 has been very nice and mud has not been an issue in the yard or lakefront area.

For wintertime, there is a natural ice skating rink that forms just inside in our woodland area, snow shoe tours are available, ice fishing is very good on this shore too! There are snowmobile trails nearby,drive-in and drive-out lane/lot for vehicles with trailers (no backing-up), 4 restaurants within 20 minutes, Beartown skiing/tubing (20 minutes away), Hardack Hill skiing/ tubing (35 minutes), and our frozen lake and roads in town are considered a legal road for registered UTVs'/ATV's, but only lake and trails for snow machines. (35 mph limit on roads)

Great for last minute booking
This property is great for a last minute booking if you have more than 10 people with you. But if you have time to look around, we would highly recommend it. Hot water issues was noted in the provided renters binder, but had no mention before hand. The first 2 nights we had absolutely no hot water, no matter what room we were in. On our wedding day, we had slightly warmer water for the first 4 people who showered, but by Sunday there was no hot water again. Water is sulfuric, as noted in the renters binder, which as someone with local family, I can confirm that is an Island wide problem, though it can be fixed with a reverse osmosis water system. The pictures do not match the current state of the house. The yard and bushes are so overgrown that you need to put your mirrors in just to back out. Temperature of the house can not be changed, and is permanently set to 63 degrees behind a lock and key, so be ready to bundle up in early fall as it isn't cold enough to use the wood stove. All in all, the property provides enough space for large groups and will ensure you have a roof over your head. But again, if you have the time to look elsewhere, I would highly recommend finding a place with hot water.

Nice location.
Property is spacious as advertised. 16 people were able to spread out and sleep well. This is a property better suited for summer travel and not winter though. We were there for ice fishing and ended up having to leave. Access to the lake was all snowed in from the house. None of the showers really worked, but it is a well and it was frozen cold out. In the summer I expect it would not be a problem. So the space was as advertised, but for a large group ice fishing trip, I would not stay there again. But our requirements were pretty specific

About the host

Host profile image
I'm from the northwest Chicago suburbs. once a small town started by German immigrants, my family and I are military, medical and applied science/ technical background with a some arts mixed in there! I love most animals, getting outdoors in Vermont, and kicking back with friends from some clubs and other social circles locally. I have 2 degrees in science, a minor in philosophy and several technical certificates. My two dogs and cat are my kids and love them!

Why they chose this property

It's the crown jewel lake of Vermont, and Vermont is the crown jewel mountain area of New England! There is a something special about getting back to simpler times up here, and finding appreciation in a place that hasn't really changed much since it was settled back in 1609. This house is one of the largest more modern ones in the valley, with a rare ideal lakefront in and out of the water for swimmers, fishers, and leisure. People up here celebrate this simplicity and simple fun times here all over the islands with events that have been traditions for decades.
