Everything is digital, no keys to weigh you down during your time out and about. I set a new code for each guest which assures total privacy and security during your stay.

Overview

I love the Magnolia Park area of Burbank. This property sits next to the Chandler bike path and is walking distance from the downtown Burbank area. There's convenient food, markets and plenty of shopping nearby.

Getting Around

I always recommend rideshares such as Uber or Lyft, but public transportation is equally within reach.

Other Things to Note

I have been in the hospitality industry since 2005. I owned and operated two hotels and I have traveled extensively. My sensibilities are for the traveler and the amenities included in your stay meet my high standards for quality hotel accommodations. In addition, the Urban Retreat offers the fastest and most reliable internet available in the city.

House Rules

I cater to the nonsmoker without pets. Smoking is not permitted inside the apartment nor on the property. Our other tenants dislike the aroma. We love small non-human friends, but unfortunately they are not allowed at the property. We observe quiet time from 10pm to 8am and kindly request that you do the same by turning down your music or television during these times. This is a 2nd-story apartment with stairs. Not suitable for persons who require an elevator.

This property is very lovely! It had everything I needed for my stay with even a nice touch of complimentary stuff! The studio apartment was perfect! It’s very close to a grocery store and more! While we appreciate your business and know you are an esteemed professor, with regard to your review it is indicative of two things, punitive response to our request for charges for additional, unadvertised furniture and a failure to review the clear and concise amenities we advertise. Our photos and our listing make it clear there is no desk in this modest-size space. Where would we put it? There is no room unfortunately. And we make this clear with abundant photography and a description of the property that outlines each amenity. The memory foam mattress is highlighted clearly in the listing as a preferred amenity of guests. A firm one was not advertised. It would be impossible to get a firm experience from a dreamy memory foam product. As for the table space, we don't provide a table except the mini dining fold out that is pictured setup and put away to make clear the limits of the furniture. When you texted me to ask for additional furniture, I offered immediately to comply with your request provided you pay the actual cost of the additional concession you asked for that we did not advertise and you said, "no thank you, I'll make due". At these incredibly low prices, for summer nearly half that of the nearest competitor, what more can you ask for? We offer super affordable, modest and clean accommodations in one of the best areas of Burbank with cold AC and a quiet top-floor apartment. There's even laundry inside which most places don't have. And we provide everything shown, a comfy soft bed, soft pillows, clean white linen and towels, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, loofah, mouthwash, q-tips, emery board, tea, coffee, real milk, sugar, sweet 'n' low and complimentary towel exchange, Tide and bleach. We encourage you to stay at the competitor and see if the value is there for you. Adding the desk you asked for, for free, was not in the budget but we offered to handle the purchase at your expense.

Great place to stay while in Burbank

This place worked out really great for us. In a great area. Close to everything. The owner left us a bottle of champagne and chocolate which was a nice treat as we were celebrating our 35th Anniversary. The bed is really comfortable and we loved the rain shower head. The only thing we wish it had was a regular coffee maker and a clock next to the bed. The French press is ok but takes time to figure out how to use it and a regular coffee maker is way faster and easier. But overall was a great place to stay. It is near our grandkids so I am sure we will be back. I highly recommend this place.

I always appreciate the opportunity to improve amenities based on guest feedback. Since there are two items I would consider guest issues in the review, I felt it helpful to respond with my thoughts. As to the clock, virtually all guests use phones for waking up and the images of the bed and nightstand are clear on the lack of an alarm clock which has become less relevant over the years with mobile phones. I asked many guests when appointing the room and this was stated to me. The fewer things to dust and deal with (less clutter) is my goal with all my units. As to the coffee press, I have provided images of the amenities and the French press is in those images. If a guest requires an amenity not shown in my listing, I am always prepared (and have in the past) gone out and pre-set the apartment with exactly what was requested. I have no issue bringing a coffee maker from home. As it stands we include free coffee and condiments with the French press. Since our listing does not advertise any form of coffee or coffee maker in it, I consider the coffee service a free bonus item. There are many bonus amenities in the rental that are not advertised. While I have never asked for a review, I feel it important that someone who appears to be dissatisfied, even slightly, and who elects to explain this openly and publicly, that the feedback is weighed against what was paid for. The apartment is highly discounted against comparable rentals and offers a nice, no-frills spot to relax and unwind in a safe area. If you are considering renting from me, feel free to let me know up front what you want and need so I'm not hearing about it at the tail end of your stay. For those who require amenties that are assumed to exist in a luxury resort, we can recommend (and sometimes do recommend) the $200 - $300 a night hotels in the area.

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights and it was incredible! Super clean! Spacious for 2 people! Very welcoming! We will definitely be back :) the area is super quiet and calm, stores of every kind are nearby, just a perfect stay! We can't say enough of this property and the owner is awesome! He gaved us step by step instructions, he left a booklet giving us information for transportation, restaurants, everything! This was very helpful and we truly appreciate it! I was working in NoHo for a week and after looking carefully at lodging options, chose to stay at the Urban Refuge rather than a hotel. A bit small but nice. Living room/bedroom combo, full kitchen, full bathroom+dressing area. Probably not comfortable (size) for more than 2 adults. Second floor private access. Far nicer than any hotel in the area at this price point. The host was very responsive and courteous. The furnishing and amenities are all brand new and comfortable. There was a bottle of prosecco, breakfast bars, and toiletries provided upon my arrival. Close to plenty of attractions and dining. Plentiful on-street parking. Vibrant neighborhood. Really, there is nothing negative to say.

Thank you for your review. Much appreciated. You are correct about size and occupancy, and the maximum number of adults allowed is two and there is only one bed for this reason. The apartment size is indeed modest and that's why our pricing is 1/3 of a hotel room of the exact same size to provide travelers in need of a kitchen and apartment-style living a viable option to extremely expensive alternatives. And with a low price we do not cut corners, we just work hard to over-deliver on the amenities. Certainly not suitable for families since it's a maximum of two people allowed by our ad policy. Glad to hear there was nothing negative to say and curious if the "size" was the only reason you dropped a star? Just wondering and always grateful for honest feedback.

TLDR: Great, quiet location with an accurate listing; would definitely stay again after a fantastic experience.Had a wonderful stay at this property! The online description was spot-on, so what you see is truly what you get. The location is excellent—nestled in a very quiet and peaceful neighborhood.A couple of friendly notes for future guests: If you have a car and aren't accustomed to LA parking, make sure to read the signs carefully. The rules are clear, but you'll want to be mindful to avoid any issues. The hot water in the shower can be a little finicky, but the host provides clear instructions; just follow their notes, and you'll get it to a comfortable temperature.For anyone who enjoys being active, the Chandler Bikeway is a fantastic path for running, walking, or biking and it’s conveniently just a couple of blocks away. Also, a huge recommendation for foodies: there is an amazing shawarma place called Stop4Shawarma attached to a gas station nearby (I mean, they had me at gas station...). With nearly perfect reviews online, it absolutely lives up to the hype and is a must-try.All in all, it was a great experience, and we would happily book this rental again on a future trip!

Clean, Updated, Quiet place!

My sister and I stayed here for a weekend and had a great experience. The neighborhood is quiet and there was plenty of street parking. The apartment itself was clean and had updated amenities. The bed was very comfortable as well! The only reason I am not rating it 5 stars is that there was only a thin blanket on the bed. I would recommend having at least another spare blanket available in case guests are cold or would just like one to cuddle on the couch with. We arrived late ~1 am and it was too late to contact the host. I did contact he manager the next day and she informed me that extra blankets are stocked in the fall and winter, and that the owner would happily provide us with another. We decided we would be fine without another blanket since we were only there for one more night. Other than that, everything was great and you could tell Christopher really put care into all details of the space. Thank you! If I ever need a place to stay in the Burbank area again, I would love to come back!

We welcome you back to stay with us and it would be my pleasure to show you how to use the two separate heating units in the apartment, the one right next to the bed and the one on the wall which are designed with guest comfort in mind. Because we always wash comforters between guests and many hosts do not (yuk!) it costs us more to maintain the apartment in the winter and we store all comforters in the Fall. As a result of this policy, you pay less in the Spring and Summer than in Fall and Winter for staying here. Since I am only 1 mile away, I'm glad to bring more towels, more blankets, coffee, amenities such as more soap, shampoo, etc. Delighted that overall you enjoyed your stay and I'm sorry to hear that your 1am arrival meant we didn't have time to connect and discuss operating the heating unit which is explained in our house manual that was placed on the bed for your arrival. You will also notice that I advertise with the summer blanket on the bed and a comforter is not mentioned in our list of provided amenities. We are always at the ready to help with custom requests, in advance of arrival, if you prefer not to turn on heaters for some reason. Thank you for the kind feedback and if you return to the property, I'll be sure and set out additional blankets to accommodate you. I consider and welcome all criticisms and thank you for airing them out on the feedback. Since the heaters do a great job of warming up the heater and we try to keep our room rates low, less than 1/2 of a local hotel, adding more laundry for the housekeeper is avoided by handling additional needs beyond what is advertised and shown in our photos. While this is an unusual and long response, it feels needed. I always want to meet guest expectations and at the same time set them for future guests who read reviews before making their decisions.

everything about this place was LOVELY! i would stay here again in a heartbeat. the owners were super easy to contact when i couldn’t figure out how to open the door, there was complimentary champagne waiting for us, silverware, linens, toiletries! and there was a great little packet that had information about the property and about the surrounding area with food and activities! the only tiny problem was that the checkout time on the information packet was wrong, so we were rushed out early by the housekeeper. but everything else was perfect!

Immaculate and cozy

My husband and I rented for 17 days in November. Christopher and Gloria were excellent hosts. The location in Magnolia Park neighborhood was perfect for us. The owners of this adorable studio have thought of everything. They are prompt, courteous, and so considerate! My husband used this space for 3 weeks as an office because our kids have been home from school for an ENTIRE YEAR now thanks to Covid, and getting work done at home has become darn near impossible. He found the space beautifully decorated, cozy, and inviting. He said if he were a young man living alone - which I'm sure he wishes he was at this point in the pandemic LOL - he'd live in this space in a heartbeat. Highly recommend!!

My fiance and I spent 4 nights at this apartment. It was clean, well-appointed, and comfortable. Great neighborhood, quiet, convenient. Owners were super communicative and accommodating. Parking was a little bit of a challenge on street-sweeping day, but we parked a block over and it was a nice, pleasant, safe walk back to the property (no big deal).
