About the host
Hosted by Colin Paterson and Becci Flanders-Paterson

Your hosts, Colin Paterson and Becci Flanders-Paterson are both geologists by degree and naturalists by interest. Colin is a native of Invercargill, New Zealand, and a graduate of the University of Otago (Dunedin, N.Z.), and has practiced geology on six continents, as a university professor and consultant. Becci was born on a US 82nd Airborne Army Base in Germany and grew up near the family's generational farm in Iowa. She graduated from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, and has worked in oil exploration and production in North America. We are co-founders and officers of a regional environmental organization, the Norbeck Society, in the Black Hills of South Dakota. We are proud parents of five children, who have given us eight grandchildren so far. We enjoy a variety of hobbies including gardening, photography, composing music, skiing, soccer, squash, tennis, and outdoor recreation.
Why they chose this property
Mountain Vista on Matai is a place to come to if you wish to find peace and quiet. After working in various locations far from New Zealand, it is a dream come true to come “home” to the southern alps. Proximity to the wild outdoors makes this a very special place in our hearts. We hope you enjoy the comfort, peacefulness and alpine charm that Mountain Vista on Matai has to offer.
What makes this property unique
On our first visit to this home, we were immediately enchanted by the picture-perfect framed view of the mountains from the living room and deck, with the ever-changing images created by the interplay of sun and clouds. In addition, this has brought us closer to family and life-long friends.
