Suite Colibri in historic Quito with a fantastic garden

Within the 1400sqm large residential complex, with its colonial main house and several outbuildings, we have created eight independent apartments of varying sizes and furnishing with all modern comfort while preserving the original colonial charm of the complex.
Suite Colibri is located in the restored villa with a beautiful garden, is furnished in Mediterranean style and fully equipped (bed linen, down duvets, towels, kitchen equipment etc). Modern stoves provide warm comfort on cool evenings.
Our garden is home to abundant spice herbs in steeping terraces, orchids, fragrant shrubs and exotic flowers. Hummingbirds, bird song, and even frog whisk are part of our Stadtoase. Included in the price is a 2 x weekly apartment cleaning, the cleaning of their personal laundry can be taken on these days for an extra charge gladly.
Our prices include all fees. No hidden fees.

Tranquility in Old Town

What a pleasure to be welcomed into a city by such gracious and knowledgeable hosts. Andi and Wolfgang have established a distinctive property. The 8 units are stylish but comfortable. We stayed in Calibri , its sitting room spacious, with a galley kitchen along one side.. The bedroom and bathroom were equally spacious, with plenty of shelf and closet space. Vases of flowers from the exquisite garden were in all rooms upon arrival. We had our morning coffee on the private patio while watching humming birds flitting around. The property is extremely quiet, yet its only a 10-15 minute walk to the central Plaza Santo Domingo. Ditto for La Ronda, with its multiple restaurants. If - when! - we comeback to Quito, we’d stay nowhere else.

Amazing Private Oasis in the City

We feel so lucky that we found this property in the historic area of Quito!! I would highly recommend this property!! The owner was wonderful and arranged a driver to the home. The grounds were stunning inside a gate..palm trees and gardens...we loved it!!!

PERFECT BASE FOR EXPLORING QUITO

These apartments are located just outside the old city , beautifully renovated with artistic flare by the owners, who live on the premises and are always available to assist guests with any questions during their stay. A pick up was arranged for us from the airport and we were welcomed into our apartment with a warm fire and a cold beer in the fridge. Also items left for our breakfast the following morning. The apartments are set in lovely gardens which are there to be enjoyed by all guests, along with a bbq if you feel like cooking. The apartment more than lived up to our expectations from the information on their website and if we were in Quito again would definitely be booking with Wolfgang and Andi or recommending to friends if they wanted to stay in Quito.

Magical. Charming. A gem in the heart of Quito!

My husband and I spent four weeks in June at Wantara. Our unit was large (bedroom with queen bed, living area complete with kitchen, table and chairs and small sitting area with wood burning stove, couch and casual chair, and private bathroom.). Everything we needed was included-cooking utensils, linens, bottled water, cut wood for the stove, twice weekly cleaning with clean linens and fresh flowers from the beautiful gardens. Owners, Andi and Wolfgang, were wonderful hosts who provided touring and shopping recommendations. We have traveled the world and Wantara tops our list as one of our favorites.

Highly Recommended

We spent a month in Quito and were happy to have chosen Wantara as our home during our stay. We chose the Tortuga suite which has a double bed, kitchenette and bathroom and the space was adequate for the two of us. The cleaning and laundry service were all very good and the owners are a mine of information on Ecuador so whatever one may want to know they can always help. The overall service was very good and the owners highly attentive. There are several suites around a very nice garden area which creates a very pleasant environment for just sitting around and relaxing. The guests during our stay were from many different countries and one can interact as one wishes. If an internet connection is important, for us very important, then Wantara has a good system that worked well inside and out so no worries there. From Wantara it's possible to walk to the old city or take a taxi; we walked everywhere and felt safe without any unusual circumstances or situations. If visiting Quito again we would certainly stay at Wantara once more and we'd recommend to anyone looking for a very functional place to stay that does't have the hotel type atmosphere.

Ein Zuhause in der Altstadt Quitos

Wir hatten für unseren Ecuador Urlaub die Wohnung Luna für drei Wochen gemietet und es war mit die beste Entscheidung für diesen Urlaub, die wir getroffen haben. Beim ersten Betreten der Wohnung fühlte man sich willkommen und sicher, die Wohnung ist sehr gut durchdacht, sehr sauber und liebevoll eingerichtet. Sie liegt fußläufig von den touristischen Plätzen des Centro Historicos entfernt - und ist gleichzeitig ein Stück Paradies und Ruhe inmitten des Trubels. Das Highlight nach jeder kleineren Reise war die Vorfreude auf die heiße Dusche "zu Hause",die saubere Wäsche im Schrank und ein kühles Bier zum Abend! Mein Dank geht an Andi und Wolfgang, die uns immer mit Rat und Tat zur Seite standen. Dieses Kleinod, was ihr liebevoll geschaffen habt ist immer eine Reise wert und kann man jederzeit bedenkenlos weiterempfehlen. Vielen Dank!!

Einfach schön!

Wir haben 3 entspannte Wochen in der Suite Sol verbracht und haben uns dort sehr wohl gefühlt. Das Appartment sowie die gesamte Anlage sind äußerst ansprechend und liebevoll gestaltet. Die zentrale Lage mitten im Herzen der Altstadt war einmalig. Besonders hervorzuheben war für mich als Allergiker, das für die gesamte Architektur und Inneneinrichtung ausschiesslich ökologische Baustoffe und Materialien verwendet wurden und ich hier keinerlei gesundheitliche Beschwerden hatte.An diese Stelle möchte ich mich nochmal ganz herzlich bei den Besitzern für die wertvollen Tips und Anregungen für unseren Aufenthalt in Quito bedanken. Wir fühlten uns sehr gut betreut. Wir können die Wantara Suite jederzeit empfehlen.

Hidden Gem

This place is an absolute gem. Hidden behind a wooden portal in the colonial centre of Quito is a beautiful garden and a few lovingly restored apartments. The owners have made every effort to make you feel comfortable (Hint: there is a small electric milk frother in your drawer!). They live in a separate apartment on the property and are very helpful with any questions you might have or suggestions about tours throughout Ecuador. I don't think you will find anything close to that level anywhere else in Quito - highly recommended!

Oasis in Old Town

if you are looking for an extended stay in Quito you really can't beat Wantara Suites. It is truly a "Home Away" and a wonderful place to return to after exploring the city or taking excursions within Ecuador.You wake in the morning to songbirds and enjoy a fire on chilly evenings. The owners are extremely friendly and helpful which promotes good relationships with other guests there. We would strongly recommend Wantara Suites to anyone!

An oasis in the city.

My wife and I stayed at Wantara Suites for a month, the last part of our two month stay in Ecuador, using it as a base to explore Quito and the surrounding areas. We chose it on the Internet and easily made our booking on line with Christina Ring. My wife was a little apprehensive about what we would find when we got there, having no means of verifying that what was advertised about the place was in fact true. To our delight, Wantara was everything we hoped it would be and more. Both of us prefer country living but we decided to use Quito as a base to travel to other locations in the north central part of Ecuador. Although Quito is a big, noisy, and busy place to be, we found Wantara to be a haven, an oasis of peace in the old city where you could relax and find some relative peace, quiet, and security from the bustling city. It is only a easy 15 minute walk from Wantara to the Grand Plaza and the Historical Center, with all it's interesting museums, churches, colonial buildings, restaurants, and shopping. Our suite, Sol, was delightful with a fully equipped kitchen, a wood stove to take off the night chill, a large airy bedroom with views of the mountains and parts of the Historic Center, and a good sized bathroom with plenty of hot water. The front balcony of our suite was a great place have have a meal and be able to meet and talk with fellow travelers staying at the suites about their experiences, to exchange ideas about traveling and living in Ecuador. Our hosts, Andi and Wolfgang were delightful, they provided us with advice and information that was extremely helpful to us in planning our excursions to Otavalo, Banos, and the Galapagos Islands. Having lived in Ecuador for many years, they have extensive knowledge and experience that was invaluable to us. We both would highly recommend Wantara Suites as a great place to stay.

Wantara Suites, home away from home!

My wife and I had a wonderful stay at Wantara suites. We had been traveling in Ecuador for more than a week and arrived at Wantara a bit tired and ready to relax. It was perfect! We relaxed on the porch reading and sipping tea, enjoying the garden and the resident cat. We had a fire in the stove when the evening began to cool down. We made coffee and breakfast in the kitchen each morning. We strolled leisurely out into the city, enjoying the churches, museums and restaurants that were just a few blocks away. The ambiance of Wantara was soothing and elegant. Andi and Wolfgang were friendly, knowledgeable and easy going. We can't recommend Wantara enough, and hope we will have opportunity to stay there again!

Wonderful Wantra the place to stay!!

What a cutie!!! Bar none our favorite place duriing our eighteen day tour of Ecuador. Location is in the QUIET part of Old town. Nice walking distance to stores, sites, and cultural dining. Accommodations: Outstanding. Very tastefully decorated with charm and good taste. Spacious and well equipped for comfort to stay for months. Wish we could have! Hot water, dishes, towels,comfortable beds, free WI FI and a goregous outdoor patio for enjoying the beautiful garden haven. The best feature this property has to offer is Andi and Wolfgang our gracious, knowledgeable, and accommodating hosts. This property fulfilled everything it promised and more. Thanks for a wonderful and delightful stay Andi and Wolfgang.

Wantara - Estrella apartment

We stayed for the whole month of November 2011 in the Estrella apartment at Wantara. The apartment is lovely - every bit as nice as it looks in the photos. It is set in a delightful walled garden, where you can pick herbs for cooking and see hummingbirds. The atmosphere at Wantara was really nice when we stayed as there are a number of apartments, many of which had people who were staying for a month or so, and it was quite sociable without being noisy or intrusive. There are nice outdoor areas where you can enjoy your own balcony or the shared hammock area. The shower was great - lots of hot water. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need to cook. Quito can get quite chilly at night but there was a great wood burner with lots of wood available. The bed was good, with lots of storage in the bedroom. Wantara is close to the old town - max. 10 minutes walk. This suited us as we didn't want to stay in the very touristy area, called Mariscal. However, if you want to go out partying every night or to bars this might not be the place for you unless you are happy to catch a taxi to Mariscal and back - $3 to $4. We were advised not to walk around this area once it is dark - about 6pm. The old town is very quiet and empty at night. During the day we walked into and across town every day without any problem. Wantara is also 5 min walk from the trolleybus which will take you across the city to Mariscal in about 15 min for 25 cents. It runs every 2 to 5 min. Andi and Wolfgang - owners - are lovely and very helpful. They gave us some top tips for restaurants and places to stay when we did trips outside of Quito. Overall we really enjoyed out stay and would happily recommend Wantara.

Wonderful Urban Oasis

This is a wonderful vacation rental in the heart of Colonial Old Town of Quito. First off, our suite (Sol) was very comfortable and homey. The basic kitchen (salt/pepper, oil/vinegar, coffee/tea staples, pots/pans) amenities were plenty and new. The bathroom was spacious and modern, with plenty of towels. The decor was a touch old traditional (adobe walls, exposed beams) with gentle touches of modern (fixtures, color palette). We had the second smallest suite which accommodated two easily. The lower level yielded the kitchen, dining room and bathroom whereas the loft bedroom area had a full bed and a spacious writing/desk area. My favorite was the warm toastiness every evening when we made a fire in the wood burning stove. It was wonderfully welcoming and cozy. The location is well within Old Town, but slightly outside the hustle and bustle of central Old Town. One could easily walk to the main squares, plazas and churches in 10-15 minutes (depending on how well acclimated to the altitude you were). Cabs ran frequently at the nearby corner. But overall, the complex is a quiet oasis with its courtyard and beautiful night landscape. On Friday and Saturday, Old Town is quite happening but the other days of the week can be a bit quiet. However, I prefer this to Mariscal or what they fondly call Gringolandia. I highly recommend a stay at Wantara Suites. The owners, Andie and Wolfgang, are wonderful hosts. Additionally, Wolfgang works with a travel outfitter who can assist in setting up airport transfers, day trips and Galapagos cruises. Although we did not use his cruise service, we did go on a day trip to Otavalo with his outfitter as well as organize 4 airport transfers. Everything went wonderfully with professional and courteous guides. I hope that both Andie and Wolfgang will still be there when I return to Equador.
