The Rittenhouse Residence is one of Philadelphia’s great historic private homes — a place to make the city your own, together. Nearly 7,000 square feet of tall windows, handsome fireplaces and period character give your stay a sense of occasion, while eight bedrooms and thoughtful modern comforts make it easy to settle in.
With more than 170 years of history, Rittenhouse Residence combines the character and proportions of a historic private home with the space and comforts required for modern group stays.
Two blocks from Rittenhouse Square, you can stroll out for breakfast, browse the boutiques, linger over dinner and return to a home that belongs entirely to your group. For a group stay in Philadelphia, we think it’s hard to beat this location: a graceful residential setting with the pleasures of Center City close at hand.
THE GRAND PARLOR & LIVING SPACES The Grand Parlor is one of Philadelphia’s truly grand private parlors, with a sense of scale rarely found in a city home. Fourteen-foot ceilings, a historic marble fireplace, a crystal chandelier and a full-size pool table set the scene for unhurried conversation and evenings together.
There are three shared living rooms — the Grand Parlor, Family Room and Library Lounge — so everyone can find their own rhythm. The library’s bookshelves, wet bar and period furnishings invite a quieter hour. The principal suite has an additional private sitting room, reserved for the guests using that bedroom.
Two full kitchens make group breakfasts and longer stays wonderfully practical. A large dining table invites leisurely meals at home. Above it all, the private roof decks offer city views and open sky; the secluded courtyard provides another place to pause with your coffee.
EIGHT BEDROOMS, ROOM TO RETREAT Eight bedrooms, two king beds, six queen beds and one full-size bed accommodate up to 17 overnight guests, including children. Five full bathrooms and a powder room help keep mornings moving. The principal bedroom has a king bed, private sitting room and private bathroom. Our family bedroom pairs a queen with a full-size bed, making it a useful choice for parents and children or three adults.
A HOME FOR THE PEOPLE YOU CAME WITH For family reunions, graduation weekends, friends’ getaways and wedding-guest stays, the joy is in the hours between plans: breakfast together, a game of pool, an evening on the roof and a familiar face at the kitchen table.
No shared lobby. No unrelated guests. Just your people, under one remarkable roof.
CORPORATE & EXECUTIVE STAYS For colleagues travelling together, Rittenhouse Residence offers a distinctive alternative to booking a collection of separate hotel rooms.
High-speed Wi-Fi, dedicated workspaces in several rooms, multiple living areas and two kitchens make group and longer stays particularly comfortable, while eight individual bedrooms provide privacy at the end of the day.
It offers the opportunity for the whole group to stay together in one characterful private Philadelphia residence.
ADDITIONAL AMENITIES Every stay includes a selection of thoughtful amenities to make your arrival and time at the residence as comfortable as possible:
• Premium bed linens and towels • Kiehl’s shampoo, conditioner and body wash • A selection of teas and coffees • A selection of snacks on arrival • High-speed Wi-Fi throughout • In-home laundry • Luggage drop-off, early check-in and late check-out available upon request and subject to availability

For a group that travels around the country and seeks properties that can accommodate 8, this was amongst the best we’ve found. Great location, with generous spaces. Host was responsive and clear about the property.
Beautiful large house. Unusual to have so many bedrooms and large living spaces in this location. Worked great to have my extended out of town family be able to stay all in one place and hang out together. Great neighborhood.
Great house, incredibly walkable and billable street, ample space, cool roof deck. Good AC for hire Philly summer. A few of the doors could use some WD-40 but given that was our only complaint I would highly recommend this house.
This was a wonderful home for our family vacation. The location was great for the things we wanted to see, for grocery shopping and for a morning coffee. The kids had their own space for play and games and the adults had a quiet space for conversation. The gathering spaces were perfect for our together time. The kitchen was supplied with all we needed. The hosts were available and accommodating. It could not have been more perfect.
A spectacular, historic property, perfect for our reunion of long-time college friends. Five separate multi room suites, each beautifully appointed. The crowning glory was the rooftop deck where we enjoyed sunset dinners. (As the townhouse has 4 floors, it may not be appropriate for those with mobility issues.) The location is perfect, just off Rittenhouse Square on a lovely street of historic townhouses. We were able to walk to everything - museums, parks, historic sites, river walk. A magical setting for a memorable gathering.
Everything was perfect, great place to stay for our group attending a reunion

Liked: Cleanliness, location, listing accuracy
Listing the parking situation earlier would help. Figured there’d be a space with a parking pass or something for the house. Top floor was super hot. Like 10 degrees different. We didn’t need that space luckily.
We had an excellent time. The place was beautiful and very spacious. The block was in an excellent area of Philadelphia. Check-in was a breeze. Our dishwasher broke, and within one day it was repaired! The host was excellent and communicated with us often.Overall a great place.

Thank you for your fantastic review, John! We’re so pleased you enjoyed the house, the neighborhood and found everything comfortable for your stay. We also appreciate your understanding regarding the dishwasher, and we’re glad we were able to have it repaired quickly with minimal disruption. It was a pleasure hosting you, and we hope to welcome you back to Rittenhouse again in the future.
Amazing property in perfect location. Comfortable, functional, and incredibly spacious. You won’t be disappointed. Great host, very responsive and helpful. Parking on corner of 17th and Pine is easy. When you’re hungry go to Reading Market. Take a right out the front door, walk two blocks, stop at Mighty Bread for a coffee and snack.

This house is truly amazing, it’s large and spacious enough for everyone to spread out and have many different options for spaces to hang out in. Everything was clean and welcoming and we couldn’t have had a better experience. The kitchen was stocked with everyone we needed and the roof deck hosts the best view of the city I’ve ever seen. Robertson was very easy to communicate with and responsive. I wish we could live here!

Thank you so much for your wonderful review, Shelby! We’re delighted to hear you and your group enjoyed the space and had room to spread out. It’s great to know the roof deck, kitchen and the home’s historic character helped make your stay so memorable. Thank you also for your kind words about our communication—it was a pleasure hosting you. We’d love to welcome you back to Rittenhouse anytime!
This house is amazing! It was the perfect location for our daughter to get ready on her wedding day. Plenty of places for photo opportunities, hosting bridesmaid brunch, and sleeps a large group. Second living room & kitchen were great for teens to have a hangout spot as well. Definitely recommend!
The house was perfect for our family of 17-19 during our one week stay!! The kitchen was well equipped and allowed us to make all dinners at the house. Grocery stores were 4-7 blocks away and had what we needed. We were able to walk to most activities - the Independence Hall area, Museums on Ben Franklin Parkway and so much more. Bathrooms and kitchens have all been updated. The pool table in the main living room was a great bonus and provided lots of fun for all the adults and kids. It’s hard to say what part of the house was best but the last few nights we made amazing g memories enjoying the rooftop deck and watching the sun set and the moon rise. Truly it was magical!

Thank you so much for your wonderful review, Angela! We’re thrilled the house worked so well for your family gathering and that you were able to make the most of the kitchens, roof deck and all the shared spaces. It means so much to hear that your stay created such special memories. It was a pleasure hosting you and your family, and we’d love to welcome you back anytime.
Wow :). I could not have been happier with my weekend stay and my guests would say the same! The house is huge so there is more than enough room for everyone to spread out. We utilized all of the different seating areas and everyone was so comfortable. The house was fully equipped with anything you would need to entertain a large group and everyone said that the beds/bedding were cozy. We were lucky enough to have great weather so the rooftop was a lovely space to enjoy breakfast and coffee! I definitely want to call out the owners and property manager who had unbelievable communication leading up to and during the stay - truly such a pleasure to work with! A really great walkable neighborhood allowed everyone to explore the city and there’s so many different restaurant options. Only thing I would change is next time will stay a bit longer!

Thank you for making this house available-it was perfect for our group- would definitely recommend it for large family groups. Kids loved their own hangout areas and the rooftop was great when weather cooperated. This location allowed us to walk downtown, to theater, coffee shops, museums and using public transportation was easy and close. Philadelphia was very welcoming and memorable place to visit for whole family!
Large home and in a fantastic location. We were able to find food late at night within walking distance which was critical after working until midnight and trying to feed 8 hungry fellas. Great, considerate host and plenty of space in this multi-story house!!

Hi Brian, great to hear that you guys enjoyed the house and it’s location. It was great to host you all. Welcome back any time!
Our 6 year old grandson, after an 8 hour trip across the country, exclaimed upon arrival, “this place is a mansion, worth the long trip!” Great place for our lively family to enjoy the best of downtown Philadelphia, and congratulations to the new family addition. Cheers, the Perry’s.

What makes this property unique
Welcome to Rittenhouse Residence — a remarkable piece of Philadelphia history. Built in the 1840s, this nearly 7,000 sq ft home has welcomed guests for almost two centuries, retaining much of its original character including the Grand Parlour that once hosted Philadelphia high society. The home has historical connections to Anthony Drexel, Drexel University, and the early origins of what became J.P. Morgan Chase. We hope you enjoy your stay and become part of the home's ongoing story.
