Urban Cottage was perfect for our stay in San Diego. It is well-equipped and very clean. The location is great (quiet neighbourhood with restaurants and grocery stores nearby).Dorothy is an excellent host!
Was in town for a Nurse practitioner conference but wanted to also spend time with family so got this cozy home. Description was 100% accurate home was perfect! Clean, cozy and backyard was peaceful and refreshing!! I sat on the patio each morning and drank my coffee!! Loved it here and will definitely be back!!
We loved our stay at this beautiful historical house. The neighbourhood was perfect, close to the city and the sights, but very quiet and safe, with lots of beautiful trees and flowers. We enjoyed sitting on the back porch and taking daily walks. There is some noise from planes flying over the house, it didn't bother us, but you might want to bring earplugs. The house is spotless, very well equipped and the beds very comfortable. Thank you Dorothy and Jerry!
The neighborhood was close to things we wanted to do and see—most within 10 minutes. And the house met our needs for occasional cooking very well. Quiet streets. Accommodating hosts.
Lovely cottage. Fully equipped. We have stayed here many times. Great neighborhood with quiet residential streets, excellent restaurants, shops and grocery stores within walking distance or a few minutes of driving. We highly recommend.
We loved our week stay at Dorothy's cottage for our family of 5. The home is really spacious, which suited our teenagers well, and it was the perfect location for exploring San Diego and its amazing beaches.
Everything you needed to make it an easy stay - washer/dryer, plenty of clean towels, coffee, blankets, utensils, pots & pans, books, access to Apple TV, etc... Space was very large, but very cozy in decoration. Great for a family! Loved our stay and would stay here again when visiting!
Comfortable and attractive cottage. Everything we needed and located in a great area. Easy driving to the attractions we wanted to see. Lovely backyard that our 6-year-old grandson enjoyed. The owner was extremely helpful and easy to contact. Would stay again!

We had Christmas at this darling house as it is near where my daughter lives. It was in a great neighborhood with Balboa park very near. Very new updates and great blend of old and new finishes. Would definitely stay here again when visiting San Diego.

South Park Sweet Spot!
Our stay at the Urban Cottage In South Park was terrific! Dorothy was very helpful throughout the entire process. The place was clean and convenient. Great bed, great back deck, very nice living room and kitchen. We liked being able to walk to the local restaurants, markets, and businesses. I certainly would stay here again.
I love this cottage, spent the most beautiful weekend of my life in SD for my son’s wedding.
The cottage was the perfect place for me, comfortable, very clean cozy and accommodating, home away from home.
I will defiantly come back to this cottage in this historic neighborhood next time.
Thank you Dorothy for making this special weekend great.
Wonderful location! (Just be aware that Balboa Park would be quite a hike.) Super cottage with deck out back. Everything we needed and more! South Park has great restaurants and is a quick Uber or Lyft to airport, Gaslamp, Embarcadero, Balboa Park - you name it! Thanks Dorothy!!
This lovely South Park home-away-from-home was perfect in every way! Easy communication with owner Dorothy, and she was understanding of our mishaps regarding a broken dish and rug spill. Great location for walking to restaurants and just enjoying the wonderful neighborhood. We were in town for my daughter's wedding, and we arranged for hair & makeup prep in the dining room area followed by pre-wedding photographs in the beautiful backyard -- great memories! Would love to stay here again the next time we visit San Diego.
Lovely home which looks JUST like the pictures. Wonderful little backyard and deck. Many fun and lovely touches in the decor as well. Dorothy, the owner, was extremely accessible. House was well-stocked.
Safe, quiet neighborhood, perfectly located. Close to Balboa Park, downtown and so on.
Beds get an "A" grade, too!

Great location close to Balboa Park and San Diego zoo.Lovely little cottage in safe area for walking
Wonderful area for very fast driving time to Balboa Park and out to Coronado. Nice historical area in South Park that presents clean and safe. Restaurants and Target close enough to home to walk to for local needs. Great area on back deck for family barbeque and relaxing with a good book.
Home nicely decorated with comfortable beds and furniture. Kitchen easy to use and nice newer appliances for use. Would return again for stay when looking for housing in safe residential area close to Balboa Park, downtown and Coronado.
Property was as advertised. Great location. 5-10 minutes from Balboa Park and SD Zoo. Very nice, walking distance restaurants and cool neighborhood. Cottage was well maintained and very charming. It is in the flight path of the SD Airport but nothing a little whitenoise from fan or app won't overcome. Owner was good and responsive when we had a minor issue with the locks on front door. Back door worked just fine.
This was our first experience using VRBO. We were a little nervous not knowing what to expect. The house and yard were fantastic. Our kids were able to run around outside and enjoy not being cooped up in a hotel. The property owners were very helpful and had many amenities available for our use during our stay. If we needed anything we were able to contact them anytime. We enjoyed our stay and would stay again if we find ourselves visiting the area.

Great little find in South Park
The house was in a perfect location. Walking distance to food store, local brewery, GFit gym, coffee house, and balboa park. The neighborhood was very safe and quiet. The planes do fly over to the airport, however you don't notice them after a few days. We did a great food tour in neighboring area of north park. The San Diego zoo, seaport village, gas lamp district, Coronado island and beaches were very easy to get to from the house. I would definitely stay there again, the house had everything we needed. Loved it!
My husband, two children and I enjoyed our weeklong stay at this lovely cottage in San Diego. It was exactly as pictured, very clean and had everything we needed. The owner, Dorothy, was very helpful and communicative. The cottage was very close to all of the places we wanted to visit. We were easily able to get to Balboa Park, the zoo, downtown, etc. My only (minor) complaint is that due to the proximity to the airport, we could constantly hear planes flying right overhead, when we were at the house. My kids thought that was pretty neat though! Overall, we enjoyed our stay and our time in San Diego.
Very comfortable 2 bedroom house in a great location
We were very pleased with this house. The beds were comfortable. The kitchen was very nice and had everything we needed to cook several meals. The living area had a comfortable couch and 3 chairs. WIFI was not super fast but adequate for streaming movies. They have a Samsung smart TV, so if you subscribe to Netflix/Hulu/HBO/Disney+/etc. you will be good. I don't think they have satellite or cable but rather a good digital antenna. We brought our own Roku Streaming Stick and used that. The bathrooms were clean. Nice driveway for parking our car, enclosed front porch with a bench for removing shoes. HVAC was good. The floors are nice. Overall we were very comfortable in the house and it seemed very clean.
A few minor negatives: The owners have clothes and other personal items in the closets and many of the drawers. One of the twin beds kept rolling around. Not much counter space in either bathroom. The bathroom that connects to the kids bedroom also connects to the master bedroom. We had our kids use that bathroom, and we used the other. However they were able to enter the master bedroom from the shared bathroom (they didn't but they could have). But these were all minor things in our opinion. We would definitely stay here again.
This is our second stay at the Urban Cottage. Dorothy is great, the place is fantastic. It has a great location, its safe, walkable and overall lovely. I would do it a third time!

My husband and I are retired civil engineer, and educator, now artist. We have traveled China, Nepal, Lhasa, France, England, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Tangiers, Thailand, Cambodia, and most of the National Parks in the USA. My husband is a mountain climber and has climbed over 50 Sierra peaks including several in Yosemite. I read to Senior Centers Without Walls via a conference call. I also do art, and have a bronze piece (Junior Birdman) in the Air and Space Museum in Balboa Park. We are a long way from our roots which are in South Dakota, Indiana, and Montana. !!!
Why they chose this property
My husband's family moved from South Dakota to this San Diego home which we inherited. In 2014, it survived a fire which resulted in a fun total renovation. We love the persimmon tree which offers shade over the deck and abundantly produces fruit in October and November. Our father planted that tree 40 years ago. He also planted the sweetest naval orange tree whose fruit ripens in December through February.
What makes this property unique
In the soft San Diego evenings, you will love to sit in the glider on the back deck to watch the sun set over the palm trees. If you are a winter guest, you may enjoy the Persimmons and Naval and Mandarin oranges in the back yard, or a cozy fire in the living room. The flag on the desk in the living room is from our father's service in the Seabees during WWII. He served on Kwajalein Atoll in the South Pacific. Legend has it that the house served servicemen in another way. After our parents purchased the house, several return "guests" knocked on the door requesting "Evelyn". We think she was a great patriot!
Infrequently, guests have mentioned air traffic noise, but it does not bother most travelers. A white noise machine is available for the most sensitive.
