About this property
Log cabin house in historic Columbia
This is a gorgeous property settled at the edge of the state park land that goes for miles. Three acres on the property with lots of fun activities for the kids. A loft with pool table that converts to ping pong and dartboard, trampoline and rope swing outside. 3 acres of space on the property to roam and can also hike up through the state park land which is bordering our property. Both bathrooms have bathtubs, upstairs has a claw foot bathtub. Hi speed Internet and Wi-Fi. By popular demand we have added a Mr Cool mini split AC unit in the upstairs loft and master bedroom areas along with the 1000 sq ft AC unit downstairs keeping the super hot days cool inside. It also heats for the Winter time. Each bedroom has its own character with none of the bedrooms stacked with beds. The master bedroom has a loveseat and a vanity. There is also a bookshelf with a variety of books to choose from. There are extra roll out beds in the hall closet and the living room couch has a hideaway bed. We had a very relaxing time and the owner was very great to work withIf you don’t like wildlife it’s not the place for you. If you like watching deer walking by your deck and birds greeting you with your morning coffee this is the place for you
The host was amazingly easy to contact and was very kind and informative. The cabin suited our needs and the forest around it was beautiful. It was easy to access both Sonora and Columbia. Thank you, John!
House and property are great and perfect for families. Location is so close to so many fun things in the area and host is very accommodating and communicative. Will definitely stay again.

I booked a 3-day stay. A rodent (small rat/lg mouse) ran thru the living room within hours of my arrival and kept appearing all eve. I contacted owner who said he'd never seen a mouse in 7 years — though he admitted he'd sometimes seen mouse droppings — and guessed it had "probably left the house already." I saw it again in early a.m. He offered to set traps. I declined and said I was leaving. I left by 10:30 a.m. after 1 night and asked for a refund.I offered to pay for one night, the full cleaning fee, and 1/3 of taxes/fees — leaving 440 owed back to me. The owner countered with 200, then 250, arguing rodents are normal for a mountain cabin ("Google what might be expected... in the Columbia area"). He also refused to cancel the 1500 damage deposit and kept telling me to cancel the booking myself (not possible via VRBO since the trip showed "in progress").VRBO stepped in and covered the gap between what I was asking for and the owner's 250 offer, and paid that difference promptly. But the owner is now withholding both the 1500 deposit and the 250 refund unless I cancel the booking. I now know it's to erase my ability to leave a review. I suspect that's how he avoids negative reviews. Also, the listing is advertised as dog-friendly, but the owner disclosed only 24 hours before check-in, too late to cancel, that dogs aren't allowed upstairs or in bedrooms (carpeted), restricting them to the kitchen/living room only.Good reviews from others are true if no rats.
Great host! Very responsive, helpful and friendly. Our stay started the day after Christmas and we were very pleasantly surprised that there was a beautifully decorated Christmas tree still up for us to enjoy! Nice touch.
This is a great house on a large, private lot. The kids loved the rope swing, trampoline, and treehouse. The porch was a great spot to have dinner and enjoy the evening. The house was clean and great for our group. The host was very helpful and gave us a ton of great info about the house. The check in process was easy. Looking forward to staying here again!
We loved the location and seclusion! The cabin is well appointed and maintained. There is an obvious pride of ownership by the Host. Communication with the Host was outstanding and pleasant! Will certainly come back to this cabin again!
Our family loved staying at this cabin! It was perfect for our two young kids with a treehouse, trampoline, and swing as well as plenty of space to run around. We went boating on New Melones lake and explored Columbia. The owner was very helpful and detailed when we had questions. Highly recommend to anyone staying in this area especially those with kids!
We stayed at this lovely home while in town to see family. It was perfect for our stay and the host was extremely friendly and helpful. We were all adults, but I could see kids having a great time here. Thanks for a great stay!
We wanted to get out of town for the first and this was just right. Nice property and the quiet we were seeking. The owner was very clear about everything and we had no issues or problems at all. We gladly recommend staying here and I’m sure we will again!
Owner was very responsive and accommodating; very helpful and nice. Cabin was cozy and spacious. Grounds were beautiful. Lots of deer, turkeys and quails. Very close to Columbia.
This place is amazing, it sits in a perfect wooded setting in the historic town of Columbia. The house was beautiful, spacious and well maintained. Its on a dirt road but no one had any issues even in two wheel drive. Winter maybe another story. The property was very picturesque. We spent every morning outside on the deck. It felt very tranquil. This place made our vacation. We will definitely be rebooking!
Everything about this property was amazing. Communication, check in, cleanliness, and description of the property. Cannot recommend enough!!! Fabulous!!
This was the perfect place to stay for our visit! The cabin has everything you need, warm, cozy and relaxing. Would stay here again. Beautiful spot! Easy communication with the owner. Thank you.
We had a wonderful time at the Columbia cabin. It's the perfect location - only about a mile to Main St. but far enough away that you feel like you're in your own peaceful haven. The cabin was clean and comfortable. Our kids loved the treehouse and the trampoline! Communication with John was great; he was very kind and called ahead to give us helpful tips on navigation and the surrounding area. Thanks for having us!

Hi Amber, thank you so much for staying. We are happy you enjoyed it!
Beautiful large log cabin. We stayed here with our adult daughter/son in law, and 8 and 10 year old grandchildren. There was plenty to do there! Wonderful host!
