Hello Heidi,
We are very happy you enjoyed your stay! You were perfect guests and hope to have you back again!
Great house with a peaceful location and terrific host. We used the house as a central spot for visiting Crater Lake, Redwood National Forest, Lassen Volcanic Park and the coast along Coos Bay. The house has a great view and was super clean. The host was very helpful and had good communication. Highly recommend this house and would definitely stay again if we ever make it back to Oregon!
Our family loved the spacious, well-appointed home with a million dollar view! It was the perfect place to relax, share time and meals with family, and explore the area (Jacksonville and Ashland are within half an hour).
This is our second time at this home. It’s beautiful and we enjoyed our time there and really enjoyed the new deck and fire table. The house is well stocked and had everything we needed. WiFi works well which was helpful since we didn’t have cell service.
Beautiful home with a spectacular view! There was plenty of room for the 3 couples.. Wished we could have stayed longer to enjoy more of the home. Favorite was the deck with the fireplace going in the evening watching the sun go down. Only bummer was the gravel road to get there but still give this a 5 star rating! Enjoyed golf, wine tasting, walking around Ashland a day and then Jacksonville a day. We'll definitely be back!
Painted Sky was an outstanding place to stay in Jackson. The owner was responsive when there was an unfortunate power outage. Internet sketchy but let’s face it, time to disconnect. My only concern is the front of the property was having an irrigation system put in, and this made getting to the front door a challenge. Hope they get that finished soon.
This was a wonderful stay for our family vacation. The view was beautiful and the house was very comfortable. There are several desks/nooks/places to sit and read and write, both inside and out. The Table tennis was a popular feature, and the kitchen was well-stocked in terms of pots and pans and other tools that we needed.
Be aware, there is no cell service, which is a wonderful change of pace, and the hosts allow the use of the home phone for any calls that need to be made. This made connections that we still wanted to keep over distance possible. Also, the drive up the mountain and the driveway are a little steep and aren't paved. We had a suburban and it was summer, so we didn't have any trouble, but smaller vehicles may struggle depending on the season.
Overall this was a fantastic stay with a wonderful and accomodating host.
House is easy to get to but still remote enough to enjoy nature and beautiful views. Wish we could have stayed longer. House had everything we needed and more.
We really enjoyed our stay at this property. Property owners were very welcoming, and we felt very well taken care of. Very comfortable home, well provided amenities, and we wanted for nothing. Easy check in and check out. Thanks, Dana and Richard!!
This is an amazing little hidden gem. There is no cell phone service which is perfect when escaping the world. The view on they were amazing. The house was so clean. There were deer all over the property. We found out on our last day they are adding in a spa!! Let’s just say we can’t wait to use that when we return.
My family & I really enjoyed our stay for the weekend. It was nice being able to stay in a home instead of a hotel. We loved that it felt like we were at home, in the hills. Beautiful views & the kids loved waking up to snow the first morning & the jacuzzi tub in the master bathroom. Would have preferred a king bed instead of a queen bed in the master, but other than that, we really enjoyed the house. If we're ever back in town, we'll definitely be back!
This home met our expectations! It has the most beautiful view from the balcony and is just a treat from the everyday hustle and bustle. Our family is from Los Angeles, Ca and it was definitely worth the drive! The hosts were SO sweet and very easy to communicate with. They provided brochures and pamphlets for places to visit. The home was very clean and well stocked. The beds.... let me tell you, it was the best sleep I had in a while that I even had to check what brand it was so I could purchase my own! They provided wifi because the home is a little off the grid from service but I didn't experience any issues during my stay. I was sad to leave and will miss drinking my coffee on the balcony while enjoying the view. This is a place where my family and I would like to visit yearly just to get away! I almost don't want to write this review because I fear it will constantly be booked!
Between the house itself and the owners, this stay was fantastic. The house is absolutely beautiful (pictures don't do it justice) with an amazing view of the valley. It's secluded in the woods and was a great place to get away. The house has everything you need for a longer stay. Just be mindful that there is satellite internet and no cell service. There is also a landline and TV to stay connected. We also loved playing the piano and walking around the neighborhood.
Unfortunately, wildfires impacted our stay and we chose to leave early. Dana and Richard were AMAZING hosts, texting us and keeping us updated at all hours to make sure we knew about any evacuations. We really felt safe with them. They went above and beyond. They were understanding when we decided to leave halfway through our stay and provided a refund.
We couldn't be more thankful to them for their hospitality. We plan on returning when we can.
Loved the location, especially the access to great hiking and running nearby. If you’re looking for a good hike, East Applegate Ridge Trail is close by. The views of the valley from the deck/balcony are amazing!
My experience at this property was unreal. Photos don’t do it justice as the whole setting for the home is out of a movie. Rich and Dana were as friendly as one could ask with out ever being Intrusive. I would stay here when ever I have the chance. 10 out of 10

About the host
Hosted by Richard Gangnes
Our family of 3 moved from Southern CA to Southern OR in 2016 in search of a more peaceful life style and leave the chaos behind. My husband commutes 8 days a month to OC, CA. We have a business in San Clemente, CA. I am retired and running our small horse ranch in Jacksonville. Our 20 year old daughter attends University of Oregon.
We fell in love with Jacksonville and wanted to share it with family, friends and now new friends through hosting our property. We’re blessed to have 2 homes in this amazing area.
Why they chose this property
This area we host our VRBO in is perfect for hiking, taking the dogs for a walk, or relaxing on the deck taking in the view of our beautiful area surrounded by the forest, sprawling pastures and mountain peaks. Downtown Jacksonville is a short 7 mile drive. We have the best of both worlds.
What makes this property unique
This area of Jacksonville is very special and relatively untouched. The spacious properties in this neighborhood are situated on 20 or more acres leaving one self to feel the peacefulness of the valley. It was used by the Gold Mining workers in 1865 during the Gold Rush and was home to the Chinese laborers who lived here and worked building the mines. We have apple trees planted by the Chinese that are 150 years old and still producing fruit. Following the gold rush, the valley was used to run cattle through. We experience 4 seasons. The Fall is stunning with amazing fall colors, winter brings snow, which we love and Spring time is vibrant with beautiful colors. The trees, flowers and grape vines are all budding out for the season. Summer can be very warm with gorgeous evenings and unbelievable sunsets. The reason the property is named Painted Sky Ranch.
