Beautiful, private, two bedroom camp/house overlooking Walker Pond in Brooksville. Custom kitchen, living room with fireplace, bath with jetted tub and deck. Family room DVD and VCR viewing systems (viewed on TV, but there is no TV reception), and Foosball table. Perfect for a romantic getaway or a family vacation. Not recommended for small children or persons who have difficulty with stairs.
Canoe (16') and kayak are available to borrow (life jackets also). Use of the beach is permitted by owners of the beach as long as we all keep it uncluttered and in its natural condition.
Disclaimer - Camp Robinhood is close by and is open from June 26 - Aug. 15. They make a lot of noise - learning how to water ski, sail, having singing contests and the like - they are 13 - 16 year olds learning how to have good clean fun. It is noisy during that time.
Walker Pond: Walker Pond is touted to be the third cleanest body of water in Maine. There are several species of fish including bass and trout. The water is up to four feet deep for approximately 100 ft. out. It reaches depths of 40 feet. The kayak that is available is made of heavy plastic. It is unsinkable and does not flip. It is perfect for the novice. The 16' canoe is perfect for two, three, or even four (two adults and two small children). Life jackets are provided or you may bring your own.
There is nothing more relaxing than listening to the loons in the evening, or watching a bald eagle soar over the lake.
Things to Do: Many of our guests enjoy just staying at the 'pond.' However, for those who like to venture out, there are many areas to hike, bike or drive. The towns of Blue Hill and Stonington have several restaurants and shops.
The public ocean beach after the causeway from Little Deer Isle to Deer Isle is only a five minute drive. Deer Isle is a wonderful island full of the 'real' Maine. There are many artists and artisans with galleries out of their own homes, grocery stores, quaint shops, and Stonington, at the far end of the island, is a working fishing village. The views are spectacular as you drive or bike ride and it is far less crowded than the Bar Harbor region.
Bar Harbor is about an hour drive away.
This rental offers no Television reception. Some phones may be able to access a hotspot, but there is a landline available for your use at no extra cost.

We had a very nice time at the cabin. The lake was pretty, the loons were neat to hear, and we had everything we needed for an easy stay. I caught a beautiful sunrise from the shore on the sunniest day of the trip.3
Nice quiet location, close enough to Acadia. Cute surrounding towns. Host very friendly and thoughtful.

Krista, I am so glad you enjoyed the smaller towns around. They truly represent life in Maine! I am also glad the camp nearby didn't interfere with your sense of peace and tranquility.
We stayed for a few days for a family trip with our pup. Check in was easy and the place was very nice - spacious and clean and comfortable with lots of extras llike condiments and phone cubes, etc. Close-ish to places but worth a little drive. Sharon was great and available which was nice. Would definitely stay again!
We had a wonderful stay in this lovely cabin right on the water. Our son enjoyed fishing and kayaking everyday and we absolutely loved the big picture windows and outside deck. The house was clean, well stocked and well maintained. Great location for being close to Deere Isle and not too far from Acadia National Park. There is actually an awesome hiking trail just .2 miles from the cabin with beautiful views of the bay. I would recommend this place to anyone!
This was our second stay, and it was as quiet and relaxing as the first! We love staying on a lake but being near the ocean. There's great kayaking and lots of land preserves for hiking. Or you can just hang out at the lake!
The property has a gorgeous view of the lake and gets lots of natural light. The kitchen was really well equipped (much better than many rentals). And Sharon was very engaged as a host. Overall a really nice place to stay!
We had such an incredible time at Sharon’s cabin. She was delightful to meet, and had the whole place well stocked for several days worth of home cooking, canoeing on the pond, and relaxing around the house. Can’t recommend this place enough to anyone looking for a great getaway in Maine!
We were just an hour away from hiking in Acadia and got to see lots of fun stops along the way. Deer Isle was also great to visit, and very close by. We loved it, our dogs loved it, and we hope to come back again!
Beautiful house w/ a deck overlooking the water. A canoe, albeit very heavy, was available for use on the pond. Not mentioned in any reviews, though, was a summer camp directly across from the house on the pond. The noise was pretty constant as the kids swam, water skied, had singing performances and just the general noise of hundreds of kids on the water. We laughed it off and had a great time, but not quiet and peaceful as advertised.

Lisa, thank you for your feedback. I will definitely go into the site and make mention of that. I have had the same renters in the camp from the first part of July to mid-August for over 10 years, so I totally blanked on mentioning it for new clients. I’m sorry it wasn’t the quiet vacation you had counted on. Camp runs from June 26 to Aug. 15 in 2026.
We loved our time together in Brooksville Maine. Walker's Pond was wonderful. We really enjoyed our time canoeing & kayaking and the quietness. We definitely recommend this location to anyone that wants to get away from the craziness of life and enjoys the peacefulness of the woods. Still lots to do if you want to drive, Bar Habor & Acadia National Park were amazing! Sharon was amazing with the booking( this was our 1st time staying in another person home) she also explained everything about the area and places to go.
The property is gorgeous! It over looks a very impressive pond. There is a wonderful deck you can sit on and enjoy the view with your morning coffee or evening beverages. There was more than enough room for us. The cabin was equipped for whatever kind of cooking you wish to do. The host was wonderful! We will definitely book again in the future!for whatever kind of cooking yo

Spacious cabin in the woods by Walker Pond
Cabin offers many benefits (quiet location, affordable price, large deck, kayak, private beach). We appreciated the owner's checking in with us and cleaning up some debris on the porch for us on our arrival. However, we were disappointed by several things that, if paid attention to, would have created a more welcoming and comfortable environment. Cabin would benefit from: fresh patio furniture, a ceiling fan in the Great Room, to help with stuffiness in hot weather, new toaster and cofffee maker, a kettle for tea drinkers, and a less industrial shower curtain. The access to the pond (a highlight of the listing) is a series of steps with a make-shift hand rail follwed by 10-15 feet of uneven ground including mossy boulders, and piles of leaves, which made it very problematic when getting the kayak to the water (we didn't try the canoe as it seemed too cumbersome). It's listed as a "perfect spot for a honeymoon", but we felt that the place just needs a bit more love.
We spent our honeymoon here and it was absolutely lovely. It was so nice to be disconnected and spend quality time together. The surrounding areas of Brooksville, and deer isle were absolutely breathtaking. The home was tucked away and very nice. Sharon was an awesome host. We'll definitely be coming back for a second trip.
Sharon was very easy to work with and the house is a little secluded - which we wanted. The no WiFi aspect made us focus on other things, which was great.
Clean and comfortable with good bed great shower, all working appliances in a beautiful home. Very peaceful setting with lake and woods views. Easy parking.

great location - musty & damp house
The location of the property was great! Located right on the pond. However, the bottom floor of the house was not usable due to the musty and damp nature. One of the bedrooms was located on the first floor, and could not be used due to smell of mold and many, many flies. We used the pull out couch to accommodate the 3rd and 4th guests which was not super comfortable. I’d recommend moving the bed downstairs up to the loft area which would be much more comfortable. Overall cleanliness of the house could have been better (i.e. smell of mold and dirty shower curtain) but we enjoyed our stay.
Right on the lake. Canoe & kayak at the house. Everything you need in the kitchen. Loved exploring stonington, deer isle. 1 bedroom on main & 1 bedroom in basement, which is a little musty. Overall great stay. Sharon is a gracious host.
The pictures don't do it justice! The pictures make it look more dated than it really is.
Comfy beds, plenty of linens, communication top notch, the kayak and canoe are extra bonuses.
We stayed here for adventures in Acadia, which is just over an hr away. There's also a convince/grocery store about 10 mins away. Go to the back left corner and check out the locally made ice cream. The Ice Cream Lady. We packed a cooler to take back home. I'm sorry I forgot the name of the store.
Would highly recommend and saved the home listing incase we ever make our way back up there again.

About the host
Hosted by Sharon Thoner
I was born in Idaho, raised in Maryland went to college in Utah, and my husband and I moved to Maine in 1981. I am currently a full-time teacher, a mother of 3 grown sons, and a grandmother to 6 children. We currently live on Little Deer Isle, about 5 minutes from the rental house.
Why they chose this property
My husband built this house around 2000. We had lived near fresh water in other parts of the state, and though we are now on the ocean, we wanted a place to go swimming and fishing in fresh water. My husband is an artist at heart, and he designed and built the house with attention to every detail. He and his crew cleared the land, put in the driveway, and built the house. He personally did most of the stonework around the fireplace. The granite countertops, custom built cabinets, etc., are a source of great pride to him. Everyone that enters is pleased at the aesthetic nature of the building.
What makes this property unique
It is a very comfortable house with all of the amenities of being home.
