Great vacation for 2 families!

This house was a perfect get-away! We travelled as two families of 4. The house acommodated us very well and the views of Papoose Pond were incredible. The pond access allowed for a great swimming spot as well as a great place to fish. The owners were super helpful, by sending a bunch of information ahead of time as well as checking in mid-stay to see how we were doing. We took a canoe ride down the crooked river, as suggested by the owner and it was a blast. We would definitely recommend booking a stay!

Great authentic Maine winter experience

First off, so there is no confusion, we loved our time at the house, on the property, overall great. A couple things definitely would want to convey. If you’re going in the winter and there is snow, the house is truly in the woods, and a 4 Wheel Drive vehicle was very necessary.

Lovely lakeside retreat

My family enjoyed staying at this property. The house was secluded and private, the pond access was ideal for kayaking and swimming for our young son, and the surrounding area was very nice. I appreciated that the house had some helpful safety features for a toddler including stair gates. We enjoyed our stay very much!

Wedding weekend

We had a wedding in the area so we found this spot. It was a cool cabin right on the water. Wish we had more time to enjoy it as it was a beautiful secluded area.

Great Place!

Clean, true to the description, friendly, responsive owners, well stocked. Suggestion to visitors: go to the Gem and Mineral Museum in Bethel. It is world class. Note for older visitors: There are no safety bars in either shower.

Great Lake Cabin

What an amazing little gem of a cabin on a lake close to a great little downtown with quality food and friendly people! Property manager gave us a call shortly after we arrived and made sure we were satisfied with the property. Lake is nice and quiet with plenty of sights to see as you swim, canoe and kayak. It truly is “the way life should be!!!”

Perfect for family vacation

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house/description is accurate. The host made us very comfortable answering all the questions and giving suggestions along the way. Kids enjoyed the hikes around and the papoose pond rides in the kayaks. They want to come back to the same place again in summer.

Great getaway

Property was exactly what we wanted on a pond that was perfect for our younger children and located near family we wanted to visit. The canoe and two kayaks were used daily and sitting on the porch in the morning with coffee watching the blue heron was wonderful. Directions to the location does however need refining.

Cozy log cabin

Beautiful cozy log cabin in the woods! Perfect amount of space for our ski group of 3 couples and a few singles. Plenty of cozy blankets and the heat worked very well, fireplace was a lovely extra bonus! Wifi was good enough for a couple folks to work remote and be in simultaneous video calls. XC skiing and walking on the lake was absolutely beautiful. We came during a 1ft+ snow storm and Angelica was very helpful and quick to respond to our questions about the plowing service! Drive to Sunday River is a little on the long side (30-40 min) in the snow and mountain traffic but very manageable. Hannafords and Walmart were convenient for groceries. Overall a wonderful experience!

Beautiful getaway

Angelica and Ben’s cabin is absolutely beautiful. We loved how open the layout was and there were more than enough beds for our group of 4! The fireplace is such a perfect addition, we loved having a fire and playing board games at night. The view is incredible and it’s so wonderfully quiet. We really enjoyed using the kayaks and canoe to explore the pond and Crooked River! Angelica was also incredible- she was always quick to answer and even checked in on us (via phone/email) while we were there which no host of mine has ever done before! That was really nice, we appreciated that. If you’re looking for a quiet getaway, book this now! You won’t regret it. Thank you Angelica and Ben for giving us an unforgettable family vacation! We hope to be back in the future.

The Maine Life

We are previous Maine residents having worked, lived and attended school in Maine for 4 years. We loved our time there but currently live in crazy busy CT. This vacation reminded us exactly how laid back and family oriented(although crazy with school, kids and work we sometimes had it) life in Maine is/was. Papoose Pond is just what Coronavirus ordered, lol. We had our own slice of heaven and had the option to go to the beach where other vacationers gathered. We usually opted to stay on our side of the pond and encountered very nice neighbors who told us about the Crooked River nearby as well as just paddling the whole pond. It was a great time and great adventure. The house was perfect and just as everyone indicated well stocked. We found the beds to be a bit stiffer but very comfy nonetheless(unless you need a very soft bed, these are perfect). There was privacy as well as open space to gather and hang out. My son and his fiance had zoom meetings for school/work and my husband and I had work we needed to do and the wifi never let us down. It was quick and worked perfectly. My teens had summer school work to do and had no problems either. The atmosphere was so awesome that we all worked a bit a few days that week but got to enjoy the cabin and surrounding areas without feeling like we were missing out...the pace of the Maine day is just different. We did go into Norway, ME for part of the day one day. Norway Brewing does not compare to the Portland/Biddeford breweries-nice place, beer not so much. But the town is quaint and we ate at the BBQ place across from Norway Brewing and that was pretty good. Cute antique stores, the bakery and cafes were nice and their goods yummy. I guess I am trying to say that you can go into town and eat and explore but you can also stay at the cabin and have a great time. White Mountains are only about 1.5 hours away if you want to hike, which we did one day. So much to do or you can choose to just hang out and do nothing...loved the location, the cabin and the pond. Lastly the cleaning people arrived exactly at 11am but were super courteous and waited outside in their vehicle till we were fully packed 11 minutes later. They were super nice and very helpful had we needed anything. The owner called me at some pt during the vacation to check in but T-Mobile does not have service up there so I never got the voicemail until I got home..but also very thoughtful. We would go back in a heartbeat and recommend highly.

This is the quietest, most serene place we have rented in all of Maine. The Papoose Pond may not be a big body of water, but it was great for kayaking at any level of inexperience. The Crooked River, however, was a pleasant challenge among the zigs and zags and was loaded with large brown trout. If you like peace and quiet, this is the place to go.

Just what we needed

Check-in was a breeze, Wi-Fi was excellent, the cabin was comfortable but best of all the location was perfect. We were looking for a quiet, pretty place to relax and that’s what we got. We swam, hiked a little, watched the birds and had a wonderful week.

When Jeff and I were in our early 20's, we started going up to coastal Maine every year in the summer. Raised in NY and southern CT, we fell in love with the quaint New England villages, the pine air, cool night summer breezes, the people, and the laid-back lifestyle. In 2001, we lived in a condo in downtown Boston and wanted to find a weekend retreat that offered lots of outdoor activities throughout the year. We had heard about the Lakes Region in Maine and decided to explore that area of Maine. The first time we saw this Log Home, set in the woods, on a beautiful lake, we knew it had everything we had hoped to find. With nearby skiing at Sunday River and Mt. Abram's and the interstate trail system of cross country and snowmobile trails - it would provide us with plenty to do during the winter. In the summer, we could canoe, kayak, swim, hike... or just relax by the lake. And, the nearby quaint New England towns of Bridgton and Bethel reminded us of why we were drawn to Maine so many years ago.

Why they chose this property

The house sit on a lake and faces the sunset. Each evening, you can sit on the deck, watching the loons on the lake, as the sun dips below the White Mountains in the distance.
