Imagine sitting in the sunroom, on the patio or on our handmade, outdoor love seat with a cup of coffee or glass of wine as you enjoy the fantastic view of mountains, flower gardens, and relax after a full day of fun!

Kate's Place is located in the Crested Butte historic district, one half block off Elk Ave., main street. Kate's Place was shipped to CB in 1922 by train as one of the first original Montgomery Ward's kit homes. It was erected by a local miner with the help of friends and neighbors. The home is named after Kate Starika who shared letters with the lonely miner and agreed to marry him after he provided her with a respectable home.

The home was restored in the early 80's and was recognized by the Board of zoning and Architectural Review as the best example of historical renovation completed that year in CB.

"We tried to maintain as much of the historical integrity as possible. The renovation was a labor of love." As much of the original wood trim, flooring and light fixtures were retained. Beautiful leaded glass doors and side panels were designed in Dallas to fit the new entrance way into home and the wonderful enclosed sunroom. The perfect place to relax after a day of skiing, hiking, biking or shopping in town. The most wonderful element of the home is it's location...walking distance to all the beauty and charm of Crested Butte.

Kate's Place is cozy and comfortable with furniture designed to spread out and relax. When you come to CD you want to relax and enjoy the large and private yard, patio, and outdoor furniture that provides another great space to chill!

Kate's Place is licensed by the town of Crested Butte, license no 12755. Yearly the property is inspected to make sure all safety rules and regulations are followed.
This assures you and your family of a safe, clean property for you vacation needs.

Turn off the lights and lock the doors
Empty the dishwasher and put clean dishes away. If possible, as you found them.
Take one more good look around for your stuff and take with you,
Failure to complete these may result in a negative review from the host.
The number of guests must not exceed your rental request and is the total number of guests expected. Additional guest will be charged added fees.
No bikes in the house or sunroom. Bikes can be locked to the metal fence, please bring your own locks. Keep all ski’s/snowboards in sunroom.
Bunk beds are for kids with weight no higher weight no higher than 130 lbs. Max. guest 6.

GREAT LOCATION! STAYED 5 NIGHTS IN APRIL

This is the perfect place to stay in town for Crested Butte - walk to restaurants and shops surrounded by the beautiful mountains! This charming house had everything we needed from comfortable beds and seating to a very well stocked kitchen The town is so friendly and has some great restaurants! Would definitely stay here again!

Another Great Stay

This was our third stay at this property and we always enjoy the proximity to everything south CB has to offer, in addition to ease of exiting the neighborhood for hiking and fishing in the area. The cleanliness of the house improved from our last visit, and our only issue was getting into the house with the code provided, but it was resolved fairly quickly.

Christmas at Kate’s Place

What a beautiful place to spend our Colorado Christmas! Such a cozy, sweet house! The location was perfect to walk into town and get a delicious dinner or hot coffee and yummy breakfast in the AM!

So much fun to just walk into town or jump on the bus and not worry about a car and parking. In the summer we have a table and grill on the back deck that makes cooking at home even easier and more fun. We would love to have you back. While we love the skiing summers in CB are the best...once you try it you will be hooked!

Adorable cottage, beautifully decorated in perfect location of CB. Walkable everywhere, lovely gardens, clean, comfortable furniture, and well appointed. Interesting art and creative use of space.I have rented many times in CB, and this is the best.My only issue: I misread: "King-bed, 2" means one king-bed to sleep 2 people. Not 2 king-beds.

Wedding weekend

A great place to stay in Crested Butte. Super location - quiet block very near all town attractions. Comfortable beds and super well stocked kitchen. Upstairs main bedroom suite was great. We were in town for my son’s wedding and great backyard and deck served as a wonderful place to sit and visit with family who came in for wedding. We would love to stay here again when we return for another visit.

We loved our stay in this clean and inviting home. The beds were comfortable and the home had everything we needed. The location is excellent as the Elk Street is a short walk from our front door. My husband and I purchased Kate's Place in 1989 and have been adding updates ever since as a labor of love. Now retired we get to enjoy CB even more and have learned that spring and fall are also special times and are busy exploring the area during these seasons too. We share some of our favorite places in the Guest Book waiting for you at the house.




Why they chose this property

We often visited Crested Butte to ski and loved the area. When we saw Kate's Place we fell in love again! The house is part of the history of CB and is all most 100 years old. Kate's Place is located one block off the main street of Elk Ave....walking distance to hiking, shopping, dinning and parks. Two blocks from the free shuttle bus to the mountain.

What makes this property unique

Outdoor beauty, friendly people, wonderful hiking, skiing, rafting, biking and more within walking distance. Great food and social events...everything for the perfect vacation!
Great 4th of July parades, weekly music at the park and on the mountain. Food and wine events. Summer chair lift rides with or without your bike. Art shows and the weekly farmers market and art show are just a few of the events to keep you busy.
