Great home base, 20 minutes from Sunday River

Beautiful location, lots of space, plenty of beds and a well equipped kitchen. We stayed here as a home base for a ski trip to Sunday River. Amazing location on the lake, the hut tub was great and the 6 of us fit with room to spare.

Awesome place to stay!

My family and I were looking for a lakefront house with a hot tub to do some ice fishing on Bryant Pond. The house was everything we wanted and more! Would highly recommend it if you're looking to get away and enjoy this area. Will definitely be booking in the future!

Perfect for winter family getaway

All 5 of us (2 parents, 3 kids 16 to 25) really enjoyed this cabin. There are lots of beds, so everyone had their space. The kitchen is well laid out and well equipped, the hot tub was wonderful after a (wet) day of skiing, the furniture is comfy and it was really clean. We will rent this cabin again when we return to Sunday river.

Winter Wonderland

The house is in a beautiful location - with amazing views of the lake. We were lucky that it had snowed almost 2 feet before we arrived - making it truly a winter wonderland and perfect for skiing. House is situated close to three ski areas, which was perfect for our family. Lake was completely frozen over, which made for a fun walk across the entire lake. There is enough room in the house to be able to spread out after a long day of activity and relax. The hot tub was a bonus and enjoyed by all! Bill was wonderful to communicate with and made our stay so easy. We will definitely be back!

Family vacation at the lakehouse

We travel alot; Italy, France, Hawaii, Carribean,Canada, Belize, etc. We decided to try a lake front property in Maine since travel with small grandkids who are unvaccinated for Covid is challenging. At the Maine lakehouse we kayaked, went fishing in the canoe, listened to the loons on the lake at sunset, shared stories and roasted marshmallows around a campfire, hung out in the hot tub, visited the local zoo/wildlife life reserve, and made great memories. Why had we never done this before; that's the question we heard from our adult daughters and grandkids. This house has everything you need for your next relaxing vacation. The memories we made at the lakehouse will last a lifetime. We can't wait to go back.

We stayed for 3 nights in July 2025, and unfortunately, the experience was disappointing. The property had a rodent issue (we saw mice inside), along with holes in most of the window screens that allowed in numerous bugs, a dysfunctional washing machine, damaged canoes, and an outdated DishTV system—with only adult-only channels in the channel guide. The property is also located directly in front of the only public beach access point for the lake, which was very crowded for most of our stay, even during the middle of the week. That said, we adapted and made the most of it, enjoying the tremendous view and focusing on quality family time outdoors. We messaged the host with detailed concerns after our stay and were respectful and patient, but he was dismissive and has not responded in over a week. We wouldn’t book this property again and hope the issues are resolved for future guests.

Nice location, room for improvement for guests!

I stayed there with my dog for a couple nights while my husband had a guys weekend. It’s a great location. Lots of winter action on the lake which was cool to see. I just would like to mention that I had my own rental for 4 years and this place honestly needs some serious work. Please, please, please get some nice sheets for the beds. Absolutely horribly uncomfortable, almost like sand paper and all completely mismatched. I ended up sleeping on the couch. Ottomans upstairs covered in stains. The sectional couch downstairs was literally covered in stains upon arrival along with the carpet in from of the bathroom which was atrocious. Literally made me not want to even stay in this room. The bedrooms need to be inviting along with furniture and even carpeting. Also the staircase from the lower level to living area needs more lighting and stair pads. Extremely slippery and dangerous. Poor communication with the owner. No update on snow removal, had to ask twice to get a ETA. They showed up after 2pm to plow the driveway. I ended up leaving a day early to go home.

Great property

We had a great time at Bryant Pond. The location is so beautiful -- loons on the lake, beautiful foliage, quiet street, readily available kayaks and canoe. It was stocked with everything we needed, plenty of linens and towels and cookware, just as other reviewers have noted. The only thing that we discovered that hadn't been noted was that there are railroad tracks about 150 feet behind the house. The train only went by four times during our week there, but the times were at night: Tuesday and Thursday nights at 9:00 and 2:30 A.M. But even that doesn't change our opinion. It was a great stay and plenty of room for our two adult children and their spouses.

The peefect getaway

The property has all you need and more. It was a perfect week spent with family on the lake kayaking and swimming. Nights were spent either watching a movie in the finished basement or playing board games on the family sized kitchen table. We look forward to next year already!

Comfortable

This is a vacation log home that has plenty of room for a BIG family. Comfortable. Plenty of room in driveway to store boat trailer and easy access to boat launch. Water is super clean but fishing was very challenging with lures. At end of driveway, directly across is the Town Beach. Easy to walk into the water. Bill (Host of property) was very easy to communicate with. Thank you for sharing your log home and hope to come back again soon.

This cabin stay was perfect!

We do a friend cabin weekend every year and finally have found a cabin we all love and would book again! Everything was so well stocked, we had so much fun with the kayaks and by the fire. So much space which was so nice. Even with the off and on rain we had plenty of space to be inside or outside. The playground next door was an added bonus! We would definitely recommend this place and will be back in the future!

Such a cool cozy cabin in a quiet area accessible to Sunday River!

Our group really loved our stay here. First, the home was very warm, cozy, clean, and the woodstove really added to our enjoyment. There is plenty of sleeping and personal space for a group of friends, and the hot tub really hit the mark in the evenings after a day on the Sunday River slopes. The house/kitchen really had everything we needed (and more!) and the overall value enjoyed exceeded our expectations. Bill, the host, was communicative, and it overall was an enjoyable, easy, comfortable stay that we would easily repeat in future years. Highly recommend!

About the host

Hosted by Bill Maines

Host profile image
We purchased this house with the dream of making it an ideal location for our family and guests to gather year round and enjoy the location, views, lake, skiing, hiking and the area.

Why they chose this property

Driving up to this house for the first time we all knew it was the one instantly. Real estate experts say you must have the "feeling in your gut" to make a wise purchase and we all felt it as we pulled into the driveway for the first time and realized all it had to offer. Friends, family and guests have all enjoyed the house and the area since then and we continue to improve the house, both inside and out.

What makes this property unique

From the deck the view is incredible, especially in the early morning as you look across Lake Christopher and the surrounding mountains. The hot tub has been extremely popular and obviously enjoyable after a long day on the slopes. The wood stove is an essential part of any log cabin home in the mountains and has been used by many over the years. The summer is always busy with a beach, a dock, clean water and we now offer 6 kayaks and 2 canoes with all the accompanying PFD's and paddles.
