About this property
Cozy Maine Coast Cottage - Minutes from Popham Beach
This completely renovated, pet-friendly cottage is located in Sebasco, a little fishing village in Phippsburg, where the mouth of the New Meadows River meets Casco Bay. Set amongst fishermen’s homes and a few summer cottages, it has partial water views. Access to the shore is down a short right of way where kayaks, which may be rented nearby and delivered, can be launched from a small pebble beach. Adirondack chairs and a cedar picnic table that overlook the water are provided for guests. There you can enjoy southwesterly views of Casco Bay, breathe in the salt air, and watch the passing of both pleasure craft and working boats. The pebble beach, with its tide pools, sea glass, and other treasures, is a magnet for children of all ages, one that will provide hours of entertainment, so be sure to pack their water shoes!
Air-conditioned throughout, a kitchen, dining/living room, sun porch, twin bedroom, and bathroom complete the downstairs. Upstairs are two more bedrooms, each with a full-size bed. A pack 'n play lite (fits under one year), high chair, and child safety gate are available for families with little ones.
Phiippsburg is home to gorgeous Popham Beach State Park, and a park pass is provided during your stay. Head Beach in Small Point is another favorite, and Totman Cove Preserve is very convenient, a good spot to take young children, and the only beach that allows dogs. Several restaurants are open during the summer season
Bath, with its many local shops, restaurants, and the Chocolate Church Arts Center, is only a fifteen-minute drive. Easy day trips can be made to charming Camden or Boothbay Harbor, L. L. Bean and numerous outlets in Freeport, and the historic Old Port in Portland. Cultural attractions in the area include the Portland Museum of Art in downtown Portland, the Peary-MacMillan Arctic Museum on the Bowdoin College campus, the Maine Maritime Museum in Bath, and the Farnsworth Museum up the coast in Rockland. Also at Bowdoin College, Maine State Music Theater offers professional summer theater at its best. The local area has much to offer, and whether you prefer to stay active or relax in the sun at the beach, you'll enjoy your stay in these bright, breezy surroundings.

The house was clean, well-equipped, spacious enough for a few people, and beautifully located on the cove within Phippsburg. We had quick access to Popham Beach and Morse Mountain/Small Point Beach. It was fun to walk down to the water and collect from an abundance of sea glass and pottery shards.
We enjoyed the feeling of staying in an authentic Maine fishing village. The cottage was cute and cozy and my kids loved watching the crabs and small fish in the tidepools. I came home with quite the collection of seaglass and shells. We also enjoyed shopping, eating, and the waterfront park in nearby Bath. Other highlights from our trip include Popham Beach and several day trips (Sebasco was a good launching point for visiting other mid-coast towns and Portland to the south).
Everything was great, we needed nothing, Kathy thought of everything! She provided so much information for places to go and where to eat, along with park passes. The cottage was the perfect respite after long days exploring!
exploring
We absolutely loved staying at this cottage. We loved how close it was to Popham Beach and we loved exploring Totman Cove! All of the extras that Kathy provided were a huge space saver in our car. Our kids loved the books and games, too.
Great, relaxing week. Kathy was a great host, very available. Location was good for getting to the beach and park and also for traveling to other towns. State park pass was a nice bonus. We don't get to Maine often but would definitely consider staying again.
A wonderful cottage in a scenic fishing village that is very close to Popham Beach. The cottage has plenty of room, lots of windows, and a fabulous sunroom. Kathy has lots of extras in the house for her guests from games to books, beach chairs, park passes, condiments, and snacks. Kathy is very helpful and accommodating. We beached it, golfed, dined out, and kayaked during our four-day stay. And having our dog with us was a bonus. Highly recommend staying at this cottage!
Nice cottage but floors and high touch areas could use a good clean. Downstairs beds felt damp. It was fine for using as a base for day trips. There was a nice dish of treats on arrival which was appreciated by the kids.

Visitors often mention how clean the cottage is, so I apologize if the housekeeping was not up to our usual standards. With muggy weather appearing to be occurring more frequently, I've just ordered a small dehumidifier for that room which hopefully will help with the dampness this guest experienced.
We loved our stay in this beautiful cottage. Everything was exactly as we expected, or better! The house was well appointed, with just about everything you could possibly need in the kitchen, and a gas grill just outside.
The owner gave the most perfect, detailed directions to the property. We found the cottage easily, despite arriving in the pitch dark (and rain). We were impressed with the binder of information and suggestions that greeted us as well. We were thrilled to have use of the park pass, and took full advantage of that opportunity!
We had family visit us while we were there, and everyone remarked on how lovely this place is. Despite being surrounded by other cottages, the hedges are positioned perfectly for privacy. You can't even see the other cottages while relaxing in the sun room.
Thanks for a great stay!
We’ve stayed in several Phippsburg area cottages over the last decade and this one is certainly one of the good ones - well loved and maintained over the years. Kathy has thought of every detail and is a great host - available and quick to respond. For example, when we couldn’t find the drying rack, Kathy got a new one and brought it over immediately. The cottage is well-stocked with just about anything you’d need, and had ample space for our family of five, including 3 teenagers. There were even 2 full size futons in the living areas that were great for daytime lounging and an extra sleeping space for my dad one night. It’s location is pretty nice, too, with water views from the upstairs bedrooms and a quick little walk between some neighboring cottages to get to Kathy’s Adirondack chairs at the edge of the water. We did miss having some sort of porch/deck area at the house for outdoor sitting and dining, though. The only reason for our 4-star rating instead of 5 was the restrictions on water. Many of these water’s edge communities are limited in their waste water abilities, so we strictly adhered to the suggested water-saving measures, including 5-minute showers and rinsing off at the beaches. Our kids even took showers at my brother’s place to help conserve. (At another cottage we stayed in, they had an outdoor rinse-off shower that didn’t tie into the wastewater system. Maybe Kathy would consider installing one in the future to help this situation?) In retrospect, we were probably more conscious about our water usage than necessary, but wanted to be sure we didn’t put too much stress on the system and that we received our security deposit in the end. Overall, we enjoyed our stay in this cozy cottage and would definitely rent it again. Thanks, Kathy!

I do ask that guests try to be careful with their water usage, and I really appreciate this family's efforts. However, I had no idea that they went so far above and beyond until I read this. Just normal conserving is fine with me!
We had a wonderful stay in Phippsburg. The house was clean, inviting, comfortable, and well-organized. It provided everything we needed to cook, including condiments in the fridge, cooking oil, etc. The house is located in a little enclave with other houses close by. That said, it was still private and peaceful, and the neighbors were very friendly. The beach access was great, and the view was beautiful. There was lots of sea glass to be found, and the sand was great for building sandcastles with the kids. Highly recommend!!
We had a great time at the cottage as it is close to Popham beach, one of our favorite spots. We were able to enjoy a little surf casting close by and found several hiking trails to explore. The cottage is in a very quiet neighborhood and makes for a perfect location to enjoy the surrounding area,
My Mom and I were immediately comfortable in this well-equipped cottage on the coast of Maine. The view of the wharf and boats from the dining room and upstairs bedrooms as well as the sun porch was beautiful! The host has certainly taken lots of thought and consideration into making this a very cozy and fun place to be on vacation. There were puzzles and games as well as books to read and a great closed-in sun porch to relax in. We even enjoyed the rainy day. I would highly recommend this cozy cottage to anyone looking for a great place to unwind and enjoy time with family.
Accommodations were excellent, communication with property owner was excellent! Property location for access to nearby beaches and attractions very good.
The cottage was as described and very cozy for our family. It is a true cottage but you can see the updates that have been made to make it more comfortable (AC splits, oven, outlet adaptors) and lots of conveniences added (games, cords for devices, high chair, pack 'n play). The property manager was easy to get a hold of and very responsive. I think the location is great for a family of preschool kids and up. With younger toddlers there wasn't a ton of space outside to run without worrying about going into someone else's property and the waterfront area was nice but would be more enjoyed by adults and slightly older children than our crew. Owner left great information for the surrounding area and this is how we visited Totman cove, which at low tide is amazing for the little kids because it is so shallow and one of the closer spots. Very enjoyable spot for a vacation.
We enjoyed our time at this quaint cottage by the sea. The cottage was clean and very nice. I only asked a couple of basic questions about the house and the owner is very responsive. Great vacation!!
Wonderful stay at a classic Maine lobster cove and cozy cottage. Beautiful views with boats coming and going, and salty breezes were so relaxing. The cottage was comfortable and Kathy was great to work with. Looking forward to next time! Thank you Kathy!
The cottage was fine and met our needs staying with a dog. One of the beds upstairs was very squeaky and it was difficult to sleep the nights our children came to visit. The cottage did not have a deck or place to relax outside with the exception of the water access. The ROW to the water was a driveway between multiple cottages which made it a little uncomfortable and felt like we were invading the neighbors' privacy. The water access was not a pebble beach as described and would have been okay except it was covered in goose poop which extended to the beach and rocks. Needless to say, we didn't spend much time there. The shrubs around the cabin have grown up and does not look like the pictures. There is Japanese Knotweed growing everywhere. There were also three construction sites surrounding the property, one on the east side and two on the west side. Due to limited parking, some of the neighbors were using our parking spaces. The location was good and we found some places to hike and it was close to Popham Beach which was the best part of our stay. We did day trips to Camden and Booth Bay Harbor. The area was not as dog friendly as we'd hoped including hiking trails that did not allow dogs. We took our dog to Totham Beach which was close and nice with the exception of the seaweed that does not appear to have been cleaned up off the beach for some time. It was okay to bring the dog there but not where you'd want to go to spend the day. Restaurants were limited and we made our own meals most of the stay. Anna's next door was closed from Sunday through Wednesday and then only open until 7 PM for dinner. Unfortunately, we tend to eat later in the summer months. There were two places to get live lobster. Crabby's nearby charged twice the amount as another nearby lobster wharf. The cottage provided everything we need to cook our own lobsters. All in all we made the most of our vacation and had beautiful weather.

About the host
Hosted by Kathy
I'm a retired middle school teacher and live in Phippsburg, just a few miles from my cottage. It gives me so much pleasure to be able to provide a bright, cheerful, clean cottage for guests to relax, reconnect with family, and enjoy all that midcoast Maine has to offer.
Why they chose this property
The cottage was built in the early 1900s and has been in the family for many years. In 2005, I took the plunge and spent six months doing a complete renovation. It was a busy time, as anyone who's ever built or remodeled a home knows, and very rewarding to see the end product. When they were kids, my children spent all summer down by the shore, swimming at the little beach in the picture, climbing over the rocks, and spending endless hours checking out the changes since the last tide - just what kids are supposed to do on vacation.
