Snowman Cottage -- Southport Enjoy water views of Cape Harbor and the open ocean from nearly every room in this 3-bedroom/2-bath cottage! The cottage has hardwood floors with area rugs. It comes fully equipped with cable TV and VCR in the living room and a well-equipped kitchen including a lobster pot, or course, microwave and a washer/dryer. It is just a short walk to the Newagen Seaside Inn where you can enjoy the amenities that include tennis courts and a pool at no cost. You supply the linens. Sorry, no pets!
During your stay, partake in the Boothbay Region’s wonderful art galleries, shopping, and the many restaurants. While here, rent a sailboat or kayak, or better yet, bring your own. Join a boat cruise, a whale-watching excursion, or go deep-sea fishing. Play golf on the region's newly redesigned 18-hole course. Hike a nature trail of which there are several, bike around the island and surrounding areas, or just relax in the serene natural setting of coastal Maine.
We are approximately 3 hours from Boston, 3 hours from Arcadia National Park and Bar Harbor, 1 hour from Camden/Rockland and 35 minutes from Bath/Brunswick. It is about an hour’s drive to the famous L.L. Bean store and the great outlets in Freeport if you like to shop.
If you like the beach, it is available at the end of Southport Island. It’s a short drive to Southport Beach, a small, but sandy public beach close by the Hendricks Head Light. There is also a small general store on the island, but a full service supermarket is available in Boothbay Harbor.
The interestingly named Cuckolds Lighthouse, at the entrance to Newagen Harbor, is still an active lighthouse. It is said to be named after a point of land on the Thames River in England, granted to a Londoner to sooth his anger after King John had an affair with his wife. The lighthouse has many stories. One of which is that around the lighthouse the ledges around it are called “collector ledges” as it has been the site of many boating mishaps and marine rescues. It is a beacon to generations of fishermen, and a chosen burial site for some, including our region's much beloved Leland Snowman. Although Leland never lived in this “Snowman” cottage, family members have owned it in the past, thus its name.

Thanks for taking time to write a review. We’re glad you had a good time at the cottage. I hope you enjoyed the Windjammer Days celebrations too. Hope you will be able to return to the cottage in the future.
location is excellent. very relaxing and quiet but easy access to other interesting places in the region.
Cottage is very comfortable and relaxing. Owner easy to work with.
Everything was as expected. Easy drive from Portland. Tiffany location on the Southern tip of Southport with Booth Harbor 15 minutes away and the Maine Botanical Gardens less than that which was exceptional. Hostess Jill had helpful suggestions and was readily available. Had a swell time, love to go back.

It’s such a special place. I certainly hope you’ll be able to come back for another visit to the Snowman cottage. Thank you for that wonderful review.
This is a older Maine cottage right on the water with amazing views. Beds were comfortable. We brought our own bedding.

We had a wonderful time during our stay. The heated saltwater pool at the inn is located right next door to the house. The little cove in front of the house is perfect for beach combing. The house could do with some updates, but it was cozy with a well-stocked kitchen. The location is the main thing you will be getting with this rental. It is 10-15 minutes from pretty much all of Boothbay's attractions. The inn also does a summer concert series, so you get a free concert by the pool with your stay, too.

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review. I know that there are some things that I need to upgrade on the house. We had 4 Nor’easters come into Southport and Boothbay Harbor which devastated our area. We are still working on completing some of that work. Every year we try to do upgrades. I would be interested in your opinion on future upgrades.
On another note, we are delighted you had such a great visit. Being able to hear music from the cottage deck is special and of course, we are partial to our wonderful location. We hope that you will be able to return to the Snowman Cottage in the future.
Beautiful location right on the water with a stellar view. It was a huge plus to use the pool and other outdoor amenities at the resort! It was perfect for our family. Jill called me several days before our arrival to answer any questions, which I really appreciated. All in all it was perfect for our group, which included several young children.

We are so glad that you had a wonderful time at the cottage. We work very hard to make our guests enjoy the cottage and its special location on the Atlantic Ocean. Hope that you will be able to return for another visit soon! Thanks for taking the time to sending such a nice review.
Having the Inn next door is the best feature of this rental. In the amenities they list a BBQ and a hot tub. We had a old grill with no gas tank and there is no hot tub.

We try hard to keep things up at the cottage. We did not know about the grill and tank. If we don’t know about an issue, we can’t retify it. If you had let us know, we would have addressed it immediately. Yes, you do have access to the hot tub but it is an amenity that is at the Newagen Inn for your use. We will make sure that is clear in our list of amenities so there is no confusion. This winter’s storms were brutal on the Boothbay Region and particularly Southport. We’re glad you liked the pool. Hopefully you can come back to visit again and if you have any of those problems, please let us know so that we can fix them for you. We want our guests to be very satisfied.

Perfect location, wonderful views!
We just completed our second two-week stay at Snowman Cottage. The cottage was, as before, very comfortable, this time with brand-new beds. Free amenities at the Inn were, again, a real plus, and the views from Cape Newagen are amazing. We had a full moon over the water our last night there. What could be better?

Beautiful Location
We all enjoyed our stay at this cottage. By providing handicap accessibility, a family member was able to stay with us (to make it even better, there could be a higher toilet and grab bars iintalled in the shower). The house was very well furnished with plenty of kitchenware. It was very relaxing to spend time on the deck watching the tides come and go.

We do give a discount for those returning guests. Thanks again for your time in writing a great review.
Had a great week at this classic Maine cottage! I had everything we needed to prepare a few meals at home with the added bonus of being able to take advantage of everything the inn next door had to offer (nice restaurant, pool, fire pit at night). Beds were very comfortable. The best part of all was the view off the deck! So Maine!
This cottage was lovely, clean and very well-equipped. Weloved all of the antiques and plenty of room to spread out. The view of the ocean and lighthouse was gorgeous. Jill made sure we had everything we needed and gave us a lot of helpful information prior to check-in. We enjoyed the Inn’s walking trails and pool next door as we were permitted to use them as renters of this cottage. Highly recommend!

Thanks for taking the time to write a review. We have a new crew this year and have addressed your concerns with them. Basic necessities have been stocked. We hope you can return next year and if so, will give you a discount. You are right the cottage has a great location. That’s what makes it special. You can’t beat the direct view of the Cuckold’s lighthouse and all the water views from almost every room.
This house is very comfortable! From the beds, family room furniture, etc. It is right next door to Newagen Inn with a nice pool, dock, facilities. The view from the deck of the house is breathtaking! Due to the rainy season in Maine this year, there were many mosquitos, but they were everywhere this year.

I’m so glad everything went well for you except the weather this year. I have never seen so much rain! We would love to have you return to the cottage. The views are outstanding and the amenities add value to your stay. Jill
Six of us stayed at Snowman’s Cottage for a wonderful Maine vacation. The vintage cottage is a refreshing contrast to the modern homes, with a history built into every room through furniture and artwork. The location cannot be beat and we were lucky to have all the best weather Maine offers. There were a few maintenance issues, but Jill was very responsive and nothing kept us from family dinners in the dining room or evenings on the deck watching the lobster boats return. All-in-all, it was a very relaxing time with short trips to Boothbay Hsrbor for shopping and dining. Oh - and having access to the Nextdoor pool was icing on the cake!
This property was exactly as we expected. It is hard to beat the location, right on the water and next to the Inn. We had coffee on the boathouse deck while the kids hunted for sea glass. Easy location for hikes along the rocky coast. If you are looking for a fancy cottage, this isn't your place, but if you want a cozy home that covers the basics and allows you to step away from the hustle and bustle, this is the place for you. There is no AC, but when we visited in July there was no need for it at all. Open windows with the sound of the harbor bell in the distance is all we needed.

We are very happy you had such a good time at the house. We continue to improve the cottage every year. We hope you will consider returning for another visit. Thanks again for the great review. We’re glad you like our special spot as much as we do,
Me, my wife and three kids had a great time. Plenty of room for us to play UNO at night, or some quiet time during the day. Kids didnt complain about the WiFi at all and tv was a smart TV so we could watch our home teams. We literally could throw a rock to the resort pool if we wanted. My kids even loved jumping off of their dock. The lobster bake on Tuesday was awesome, was like a lame Hallmark movie, haha. Thursday nights you can use the old time game room. We took advantage of it for sure. Had very nice bar and everyone was pleasant. View was beautiful and it was like the best of both worlds. Privacy when we wanted it, or being social and taking advantage of ammedities.

Thank you for your wonderful review. We are so glad you had such a great time. The cottage is certainly close to the Neeagen Harbor , the pool, and the Neeagen Inn.We would love for you to find your way back to Southport and the Snowman Cottage.
Pros: Location and view were wonderful. We had a problem with the plumbing in the kitchen and the owner was very responsive. The kitchen is well stocked.Cons: The house is old. The stairs to the second floor are steep and squeaky and the railing at the top is really short. There is no dock at all. The owner said it needed a little work but it doesn't exist other than the frame. No deck boards at all. She was very honest about the screen door, which needs to be replaced. Beds are good but make a lot of noise every time you move
I've been renting cottages on Southport for years and have seen many, many cottages. Snowman Cottage has one of the best views and locations on the island. We put our kayaks in right from the rocks on the property and searched for sea glass at low tide. Having my morning tea on the deck looking out to the lighthouse was wonderful. The outside of the house needs some work, but the inside has everything you need - comfy beds, new couches, stocked kitchen, great water pressure and hot water in the shower, laundry, etc.... Two families, seven people, ages 11-47 were quite comfortable. It's a rustic, old Maine cottage for sure, however, if you want an affordable place on the water in Southport, you can't do much better than Snowman Cottage!

We are glad you had a good time at the cottage. Great to hear the beds were comfortable and you liked our choice of the new sofas. We are aware that outside needs some work, but it has been difficult with all the rain this season. We will continue to update for next season. Hopefully you can find your way back to the cottage in the future. Thanks for taking the time to write a review.
We had a lovely stay at this cottage and enjoyed the use of the pool and other facilities at the Newagen Inn. We had kayaks delivered from Tidal Transit in Boothbay and used them to explore the area. As others have mentioned, there are some things inside the house that could benefit from upgrades, but all of us in our multi-generational family were quite happy here!
We absolutely loved the location of this property. As others mentioned, the house is rather rustic, and could use some upgrades…that said, we really enjoyed our stay. My 8 year old grandson loved the pool next door, and digging in the rocks on the shoreline.

Why they chose this property
I chose this particular house for its location. My children and I spent every summer here for a number of years much to their delight. We loved to use the swimming pool at the Inn and have spirited family tennis matches.. Wr also moored our sailboat out in the harbor and used the dock for our dinghy.
What makes this property unique
There are lots of things to do. Walking on the nature paths is a favorite, reading on the deck, and using the Southport Library which is open everyday except Sundays during the summer as well as some evenings. Kayaks and canoes can be launched directly from the ocean's edge at the cottage. Use of any of the Inn's ammenities at no charge is also a plus. Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park is only 165 miles away. LLBean and lots of other outlet shops in Freeport is only a 45 minute drive. The cottage is only 20 minutes from the heart of Boothbay Harbor for whale watches, deep sea fishing, seafood restaurants. and various boat trips. The cottage is centrally located for many other day trips including Bath Iron Works Shipyard or the marine museum.
