The property was as described and was exactly what we needed. The kitchen is small, but usable. Debra was very helpful and actually got us set up and in the same night when our original host double booked the house we had reserved. She made a stressful situation much better!

Not all VRBOs are the same.

Not all VRBOs are the same. This owner was quick to resolve the issues. The owner showed us where the clean sheets were so we can take the ones that had hair on them, and stink bugs, off of the beds. The owner found another place for the maintenance man who was set up to spend another night there, not realizing we were coming. The owner had the roofing repair man move the ladder, after we got there, out of our way so we could access the home easier. She allowed us to move the items that were left in the refrigerator(leftovers, used condiments, etc) out of our way, so we could have room for our items. Not all VRBOs are the same.

Not all vrbo's are the same. Ours receives the highest reviews. We always very conscious about having clean sheets on the bed and extras available just in case a thread or hair from the dryer is found. The thick comforters, mattress pads and duvets for extra comfort are always provided, as are 4 fluffy pillows for comfort. Even though he wasn't on site, our maintenance man stayed close by just in case anything was needed and we are always updating our 1904 property for comfort and beauty. You arrived just as we were finishing our new roof and we were happy to set aside the ladder. We keep our fridge stocked with condiments just in case you forgot yours. However, when I saw your 6 coolers for your 11 guests, I figured you had thought of everything. We were happy to gather wood for the firepit and put rockers by the fire. It adds more fun to our guests' stay. I have found that showing our guests the extra towels and linens and the outdoor patios and porches makes their stay a greater experience. Kindness is what we share with our guests. One way I extended my kindness was when your sons toy gun was lost but I happily found in the yard and returned. I hope that made his stay happier. No one likes losing their vacation gifts! I'm glad your stay was a nice one and glad that your 11 guests enjoyed my home away from home at such a good rate. Not all guests are the same either...that's why we try to please each one that visits!

What is that?

My first impression of The Gate House was affected by a text from the host warning that the kitchen stove was dangerous to use. This concern was amplified by the long, uncut grass, several pieces of distressed, tattered bunting, and a fire pit that was stacked nearly four-feet high with broken twigs and limbs creating a sense of disuse about the property.Once inside, the home initially seemed welcoming. That sense seemed even less so when I discovered there were no places in the many chests in any of the rooms to store any clothing, so we lived out of our bags.I expected, as I have always done when staying at a VRBO, to stop at the local grocer on the way into town. But, after the caution (and especially after seeing the kitchen), I realized that I would not be comfortable either preparing or storing food there. The kitchen cupboards, old as they were, were dirty and more than a couple were adorned by thick cobwebs. The refrigerator kept my carry-in containers cold and the microwave warmed our leftover pizza, but those were the only two aspects we used, other than the few microwave-safe plates we found that were the right size to fit in the microwave.I understand that we, as VRBO clients, are somewhat expected to provide our own bath and shower products. The reality is that every VRBO property I have rented in the past has provided some hotel-like bath products. Kevin booked our home for 2 people. After questioning him, there were actually between 9 and 11 coming. I offered my opinion of our stove and told kevin it cooked fast. Stoves are different, some cook slower or faster than others. Its a great stove, but i give my cooking opinion to guests. We had a recent storm and we picked up sticks from the 135 year old trees in our yard. We placed them in the fire pit to burn. We have 5 sets of china in the china cabinets and cupboards for guest. Surely our plates fit a normal microwave. In 12 years no guests have complained. And as far as a cobweb in a cabinet i have no idea. Kevin was only staying 2 nights. I really don't think guests load the chests with clothes for 2 nights. Kevin didn't mention the beautiful interior, comfy, clean beds or the spotless clean bathrooms. Karen, I mean Kevin, had asked if he could partially pay before booking and I had to say no. I'm afraid Kevin didn't mention all the details. He chose just to mention grass growing in December, sticks in a firepit and a cob web in the back of a cabinet. Sorry Kevin wasn't pleased with his stay. We'll burn those sticks and get that cobweb gone immediately.

Short and Sweet

This past weekend me and 11 other friends of mine ran in the RAGNAR Bourbon Chase. We used this VRBO as a shower/sleeping spot for us during the overnight hours of the 200ish mile run. 6 of us were at the house at one time in shifts. Debbie was so nice she made sure we had fresh towels between our groups and the house was very nice. If you have ever done the Bourbon Chase you know how nice it is to have a shower and a bed to sleep in, even if it is only for 2 hours. Thanks again Debbie!
