Come experience an amazing, beautifully appointed vacation home on St. John! Here you will be surrounded by truly green living with combo solar and electric power for air conditioning combining the best of both. Live well while remaining in balance with the world around you. My property overlooks Hurricane Hole and East End which is part of the National Park here on St. John. Breathtaking beauty in every direction: the Caribbean in it's full expression.

My home has 2 places to stay: the Villa and the Cottage. You can reserve one or the other or both. I am on site to welcome my guests and take care of whatever needs may come up.

The Villa features an expansive veranda with 180-degree white water views of the ocean, a garden, and a pool that is for villa guests only. It also has air conditioning in the bedroom, a full kitchen, a gas grill, and a small library of books, and board games, In the bedroom, you'll find a beautiful queen-sized pillow-top sleigh bed, where you can fall asleep to the sounds of the waves crashing on the beach.


IF there are additional people in your party, please inquire about the Cottage at House of Open Arms. VRBO#142205. One person can sleep on the sofa in the living room of the villa. An extra fee will apply. Many families have stayed here using both spaces and have thoroughly enjoyed it all!

Quiet Paradise

The house and view were magnificent. We like to stay away from crowds. So this house, on the side of a hill, at the East End near Coral Bay, checked all our boxes. And we had our own pool.

A Perfect Escape

This was our 3rd trip to St John, and 1st trip to House of Open Arms. We love St John, but had always wanted to find a villa with a private pool. Mission accomplished! The sunrises are beautiful, the pool was a fantastic thing to have after a morning at the beach and Catherine does an awesome job as a host. Extremely comfortable and clean villa! Note the walk down to the villa is a little steep - but that's part of the charm. We also love staying in Coral Bay. It's a perfect escape.

Perfect Island Getaway

Everything about our stay was amazing! Catherine is an awesome host, great communication from booking to check out! Just like other reviews, she met us at the ferry, took us to pick up our Jeep (you’ll need it!) and to the store before escorting us to the property where she made us a delicious first night dinner. The road up to the house is rough, but totally worth it! This side of the island is much quieter and slower, but the drive into Cruz Bay isn’t a bad one to make either. We balanced our time between the two sides and had a blast. Will definitely recommend this property to others and be back ourselves!

My husband and I could not have asked for a better experience staying at the House of Open Arms Villa. Catherine was a phenomenal host. The dinner that she prepared on our first night was such a wonderful way to end our long trek to the island. Each morning we looked forward to feeding the banana-quits that we’re eagerly waiting for us to fill their sugar cup. We enjoyed the beautiful views, private pool, and constant cool breeze. Thanks so much Catherine for sharing your piece of paradise with us!

A VACATION WITH A VIEW AND WONDERFUL HOST!

What can I say --House of Open Arms is well-exactly that. And Catherine is such a great host. This custom made home, perched with one of the best views on the island, is private and so well appointed --like a true piece of art. Every day was amazing and became even more special as Catherine helped us with all of her wonderful tips and inside St John Island info. Without a doubt this is the best VRBO rental and host we have ever experienced. If you happen to come upon House of Open Arms. Just book it and find your happy place! You will understand later. Enjoy!!!

House of Open Arms

A House of Open Arms exceeded all our expectations! From the ease of booking, to receiving the book St John Off the Beaten Path from Catherine the Innkeeper, and her quick response to any question I had via email, helped me plan a fabulous trip for our anniversary. Catherine picked us up at the ferry, took us to get our rental car and groceries. We stayed in the villa, Catherine made us a marvelous dinner that evening which allowed us to relax and enjoy the pool and our view. We used the air conditioner the first night only as the breezes and sounds of the ocean and coqui frogs were much more soothing. We were quite busy snorkeling and hiking - Catherine is as available as you would like her to be- we ran some ideas by her and she always had great suggestions for snorkeling, restaurants, excursions etc. We lost the key to our rental car and she really baled us out! She took us to our scheduled kayak excursion so we wouldn't miss it, then picked us up to head to town to get another key! She was nothing short of gracious during all of this! St. John is an amazing island! We looked forward to each adventure but at the end of the day we were ready to be "home" - enjoying our pool and the view that never got old! I said I would never travel to the same destination twice but St. John and The House of Open Arms have changed my thinking! I hope we will return soon!

The best honeymoon escape

We had an amazing stay with Catherine! She picked us up from the ferry, brought us to the jeep rental and then to the grocery and to the villa. She had great recommendations as well. Much appreciated! Her place is very clean and well kept. We had very yummy fish for our welcome meal. She also provided coffee, granola, sugar and basics like salt, pepper, mayo, mustard… Having the pool to ourselves was definitely a bonus. We loved sitting on the porch watching the sunrise / sunsets. We loved being in Coral Bay, but you will definitely need a jeep as it’s a little far from town. We liked being able to learn the island though! We will definitely be coming back!

Beautiful property. Gorgeous location. Well maintained. Awesome views (especially at sunrise). Katherine is an excellent host. On the day of our arrival, she picked us up at the ferry, took us to the grocery store, helped us pick up our rental car, and provided dinner for us. Also, she was wealth of information about the Island and provided excellent tips about sites, hikes, restaurants, etc. We would definitely go back .

Perfect getaway

We had a wonderful time at Catherine's. Coral Bay is gorgeous and a bit more secluded, which is exactly what we were looking for. And the villa has stunning views. You definitely need a 4WD, but that's part of the experience. Catherine's a really warm & helpful host. She gave us great recommendations for quieter beaches to visit / places to snorkel, and also made a couple of lovely dinners for us. We'd more than recommend Catherine's, and we're hoping to be back soon!

Just Wonderful!

We had a wonderful time at House of Open Arms! Catherine was the best host and she made our vacation magical. She was very attentive and kind, and the delicious dinner that she prepared for us on that first night after such a long journey was truly welcoming. The villa was very clean, had immaculate views and was very quiet. We enjoyed spending every night in the pool looking up at the stars, and watching the sun rise from the huge porch. What a wonderful time we had, and we are so thankful for the beautiful experience.

Quiet place

We stayed here for one part of our honeymoon. It is not a super private villa but Catherine was respectful of our privacy. Even though it rained most of the days we were still able to enjoy each other, the amazing views and hammock every day.

Honeymoon Getaway

Catherine was such an amazing host to me and my newlywed wife. We had a timing conflict with booking her house concurrently with another guest, but she called us immediately and we were able to sort it out. She met us at the Cruz bay dock as soon as we got off of the ferry, led us to the starfish market for some groceries and then back to her house. She was even kind enough to cook us a fish dinner on our first night which was absolutely amazing! Her house is located in a great spot in Coral Bay right near Skinny Legs and Rhumb Limes which are great places to get food/drinks. The house has incredibly scenic views and a great little pool helps when it gets too hot. The kitchen is well-stocked and she also provided us with sugar, granola, and coffee. Her home was also very well-kept and we loved seeing her art studio as well. Catherine is an incredible host and I'd absolutely recommend anyone to stay with her! We hope to come back and stay again soon :)

Perfect getaway oasis

My wife and I were finally able to take a break and go on our honeymoon and spent it at House of Open Arms. Catherine was an amazing host and her house we perfect for what we were looking for. The pool is great to hang out in overlooking the bay, especially for sunset. She gave a recommendation for a chef that came to the house and made a wonderful dinner during sunset that we enjoyed at the outdoor table. The location is great for traveling around the island and Coral Bay has small, fun restaurants to hang out at. I would highly recommend staying here and look forward to making our way back down there soon!

Excellent!!!

This property far exceeded my expectations! Remote, quiet, and comfortable. My (now) wife and I enjoyed the morning sunrise on the patio, the infinity pool to cool off (w a view), nights under the stars, and a cool bedroom w a comfortable bed to sleep in. The sounds of gentle waves was very relaxing. I will stay here again, annually if at all possible!

Picturesque Villa

My wife and I stayed in the Villa for our honeymoon. The private pool overlooking Coral Bay was perfect for relaxing and cooling off, and we fell asleep in the hammock on the porch at least 3 nights as the trade winds rocked us to sleep. The bed was comfy and the bathroom was clean and cute and well positioned for privacy. We tried no AC in the bedroom the first few nights which was tough (June temperatures) but doable, then spent the next few with AC and it was great. The East End of St. John is remote, and it was nice to hear nothing but wildlife and waves. If you're coming to St. John to get away from everything, this property is perfect, and Catherine will make your stay exactly what you want it to be. The fish she prepared the first night and brought down to us was amazing. The road to get to the property is the only thing that was hard to get used to; however, what you get at the end of the road makes it worth it. That said, we went with the Jeep rental company Catherine suggested, and got a Jeep fitted with rugged tires capable of traversing the road.

Open Arms Villa was more than we dreamed of! Catherine was extremely helpful from the very beginning! The Villa is stunning! The views from the patio and every room in the house took our breath away every time we looked out! The attention to detail was noticed! We lived on the patio morning and evening!! Extremely peaceful and quiet location! This was our first visit to St John! We Loved the island , Catherine, and Open Arms Villa! By the way, the cottage on this property is darling too! We listened to Catherine's advice on beaches and things to do, she knows this island! Everyday was a new adventure! LOVE This location and island! Great Vacation in St John at Villa of Open Arms

Great villa, very private, all the comforts of home with world class views. Catherine was a great host meeting us at the ferry, escorting us to car rental, grocery store then across the island to the villa. And then a wonderful dinner for wife and I to enjoy with the sounds of the Caribbean and views of the Virgin Islands. The islands are still recovering from Irma & Maria but that didn’t really affect our great stay. You will need a 4WD Jeep or similar to get around including getting to the villa. Be sure to take in some hikes (Reef Bay Trail, Rams Head, Yawzi Point etc) and of course the awesome Beaches (Trunk Bay, Maho, Cinnamon, Salt Bay). Can’t wait to go back !

Christmas in paradise!

My husband, our 7 year-old son, and I just returned from a week at the House of Open Arms (December 23- 30th, 2018). This place was absolutely perfect! The villa is fully outfitted with everything that we needed to feel comfortable and at home, including a full kitchen, lovely bathroom, and beautiful furnishings. Although there is air conditioning, the open windows and sliding doors provide a wonderful breeze and keeps the living space pretty cool and comfortable. The location provides privacy and peacefulness while still being close enough to easily access tons of beaches and hiking trails, and the view from the veranda is BREATHTAKING! Catherine is a lovely and thoughtful host, and takes great care in providing a clean, comfortable, and relaxing experience for her guests. I cannot recommend this place highly enough! We absolutely plan to visit here again!

PERFECT VACATION!

From making the reservation, communicating with Catherine over the months before our trip, to her meeting us at the ferry, taking us to get our rental car, leading us to the grocery store and then to her beautiful home, everything was absolutely amazing. She is the most humble and gracious hostess imaginable. She was not intrusive, but was very helpful when we needed it. Of course she is super knowledgeable about the island, and could answer just about anything we asked. We stayed in The Villa for 9 nights, and it was a great place to be. Everything was just as promised, and the veranda with its beautiful turquoise hammock was my favorite place to be. The views every morning, afternoon, and evening were unbelievably beautiful. We had full use of the pool, and from the morning dips to the moonlight swims, it was fantastic having a pool right there. We absolutely loved staying in Coral Bay. We had a jeep (4 wheel drive is necessary to get to the property), and we drove all over the island. Every day we went to a different beach, and you must take the East End drive to the end. So much fun! We plan on coming every year, and there is no other place I would want to stay. Catherine is a warm, kind person who cares very much for her guests' comfort and happiness. She made our trip very memorable in the best way possible. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! 5+ STARS!!

Beautiful home, great views, cool breezes!

Great location if you’re looking for Coral Bay side of the island. Welcome dinner on night of arrival was a real treat. Cooler, beach chairs, and anything else you might need was available. Catherine is an exceptional host!

Catherine Perry, owner and innkeeper of A House of Open Arms. I helped to build this house from the ground up. I began in 2004 and completed the building process in 2006. I am a full time artist as well as the Innkeeper on this property and I welcome my guests at the ferry dock in Cruz Bay and offer a first evening welcome dinner. I also provide some lovely additions for your first few days: milk, homemade granola, coffee, sugar and tea. my desire is to give my guests a wonderful Island experience form snorkeling tips, to helpful places to hike or excursions to book. I want to be available to you yet not intrusive in anyway.. I have had small weddings here and special dinners for special occasions. my previous guests have loved it all!! Why they chose this property

I purchased this land in 2003 to begin a dream of being a working artist and Innkeeper on St. John. I loved the Easterly breezes and the commanding 180 degree view. Waking up to the sunrise and seeing the afterglow of the daily sunsets fills my heart with daily joy. I am a local potter on Island and I create unique lighting for many private homes on St. John. I also offer for sale lovely gifts for my guests to take home

A House of Open Arms is on the electric grid and is also fully solar powered. There is A/C in the bedrooms. and is purified rainwater-fed. It sits amid lush tropical gardens, a 180 degree view of the sea. Cooling easterly breezes come up the hill daily. Hawks, kestrels, bananaquits, Lesser Antilles bull finches, Puerto Rican bull finches, and magnificent frigates float above with the crashing sea below. This is truly a nature lover's paradise. It is made all the sweeter by the knowledge that much of the electricity and all of the water used on the property are collected from the sun and sky, with minimal impact on the surrounding environment.
