“Everything as advertised. In great location that allowed us to easily do everything we wanted in the Saugatuck area. Beautiful walk downtown, easy walk to The Southerner (our fave dining of the week), and it was great to have easy access to Blue Star Hwy. (Also highly recommend Pennyroyal for food/drink). The character of the house added to the enjoyment of our stay. We used almost everything available to us - grill, yard, fire pit, etc. Everything worked and was in great condition. The host, Melissa, was incredibly easy to work with. Tons of detailed and frequent communication. We didn't have to guess on a thing. Thank you, Melissa - we hope to stay at another one of your properties soon!!”
In Prime Season, June 15-Sept 7, 2025, we book Sunday to Sunday which can be perfect for wedding groups.

This house, known as the Bandle Farm, plays a unique role in Saugatuck's artist community heritage. In 1902 the artists from the Palette and Chisel Academy of Fine Arts in Chicago who eventually founded Ox Bow Summer School of Painting gathered in the house and painted during their summer break from Chicago.
Are you coming to enjoy the lakeshore in the spring or fall? We've built two gas fireplaces for inviting conversation in either living room.

Our group of 5 women really enjoyed our stay at Melissa’s house. Great spaces for eating, sleeping and socializing. We loved walking into town and sitting around the backyard fire pit even on a chilly November day. Highly recommend!

So glad you enjoyed your stay. Excellent to hear the kitchen was well equipped and it’s a strong WiFi! So great!!
Very nice and comfortable place. Nice private backyard. Very good communication with owner Melissa. Well stocked kitchen. Only drawback, and nothing major, was the inability to hang up any clothing in the main floor bedroom.
We stayed at this property for a family reunion during Tulip Time. The property is gorgeous. The house was very comfortable, roomy, nicely decorated and easily accommodated a party of 9 people. It is conveniently located to local attractions. Highly recommend this property.

Great location to get to downtown Saugatuck, or to the Blue Star to head farther out. There was a big storm one night and we lost power, owner was great at checking in and sharing info.

I’m so glad to hear the Rivercroft Cottage in Saugatuck was a good base for you to explore the whole area. Yes, storms are getting more frequent, but our electric crews try hard to get the power back on fast! Glad you had a good experience. I do try to check in with guests when I hear of storms or any other disruptions during their stays. I’m always available if need be.
This home is beautiful with plenty of room to spread out. It was very clean and when we had a question the owner responded almost immediately. The kitchen is well stocked, plenty of fresh towels in the bathrooms and it was nice sitting by the fire at the end of the day. It’s close enough to town to walk and we fell in love with Saugatuck. I cannot recommend this house enough. Our 50 year college roommate reunion was absolutely perfect.

Great to hear you loved The Rivercroft Cottage. Glad you could enjoy it over the holidays. We are open all four seasons. Come on back this spring!
For the second year, we spent a glorious week at the Rivercroft Cottage and our multi-generational family absolutely loves to spend our special vacation time at this lovely home. Everything we need is there: open space for relaxing, separate, more private areas to be more contemplative, a fantastic back yard for the 4-legged members in our group, an ideal location for walking into Saugatauck or making a quick drive up to visit the Felt Estate. Oval Beach is minutes away and Holland is 20 minutes up the road. Communication with our host was superb and we simply can't recommend Rivercroft Cottage enough.

Thanks Vernetta, I’m so pleased to hear you took advantage of the location (near town and near the beach) of the Rivercroft Cottage in Saugatuck. It’s excellent that you appreciated the backyard too. We love the outdoor dining table, patio and the firepit too.
The house and property were fantastic! It was perfect for our family of 7. The house was beautiful and was stocked with everything we needed. The backyard was immaculate, with a large table, gas grill and a gas firepit! We could walk down to the middle of town in about 15 minutes. (If you've been to Saugatuck, you know that it is very difficult to find parking at times.)Our host left lists of favorite restaurants and things to do in the area, and she was easy to get in touch with. Loved it and hope to be back with our family!

About the host
Hosted by Melissa Smith
We love Lake Michigan, especially long walks on the beach. We love good food, especially the Everyday People Cafe, Ida Red's, The Southerner, and Crane's Orchard. We love the Saugatuck art scene, especially Button Gallery in Douglas and the Peachbelt Studio in Fennville. We love coffee, especially on the porch at Uncommon Grounds. We love exploring, especially finding new spots to eat like Lady Bird and Saugataco.
Why they chose this property
My grandmother was an art student at the Chicago Institute of the Arts in the 1920s. She vacationed on Lake Michigan back in the day. We love this historic home, with its wood paneling and gorgeous stairwell and its connection to the OxBow School of Art. We love the kitchen and the private backyard for spending time with our two college-aged daughters and their friends.
What makes this property unique
Saugatuck is "one of the world's best beach towns" (US News & World Report). We are within a short drive to Oval Beach and the public beach in nearby Douglas. Or you can take the Blue Star Bike Trail to the Saugatuck Dunes State Park for a fairly easy hike to its beach. Our house is right on the bike path that runs into town and all the way to Oval Beach. Saugatuck has a lively arts scene with dance, music and theater at the Saugatuck Center for the Arts, art shows at Ox Bow Art School, and many art galleries in both Douglas and Saugatuck. Lots of family-friendly activities nearby: grab a hot dog and a root beer float at the famous Root Beer Barrel, climb Mt. Baldhead to Lake Michigan, take the chain ferry across the Kalamazoo River and walk to the beach, rent kayaks or go fishing at Wade's Bayou and enjoy long walks on the beach to collect stones. Enjoy the food scene at local favorites The Southerner, Bowdie's Chophouse, Coast 236, Wally's, Phil's and Ida Red's. Head to the farms in Fennville for fresh produce at roadside stands or stop at Crane's Orchards for pie and cider. Rent a retro boat at Retro Boat Rentals along Water Street and explore Lake Michigan and the Kalamazoo River. Fully immerse yourself in the pleasures of the "Art Coast," visit M. Petter gallery and wine bar, find one of our 20 pottery studios, venture out to Virtue Cider in Fennville, sip wine at Fenn Valley Vineyard, and sample microbrews at The Mitten and the Saugatuck Brewing Company. There's so much to do in the area, and the Rivercroft Cottage offers you an extremely comfortable home in a central location from which to explore the area and enjoy your vacation.
