Everything about our stay was wonderful. From first booking throughout the entire stay we had no issues. The house was exactly as described and a great place to stay. Everything we needed to spend the weekend with family was available.
Was in the area for a surgery at Haywood Hospital . The property is a short drive and very convenient. Easy communication with owner and the house was clean and nicely furnished. Would definitely stay again .
Host was available right away to give us the access code, as VRBO had sent us the wrong code. Really enjoyed the beautiful sunset views from the wrap around deck which was perfect for our dogs. The house is very nice on the inside, except for the stove which had melted plastic on one of the burners. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and even saw a deer on the property.
Stayed here for our Thanksgiving holiday and had a wonderful time. Mr. George was a super host, very accommodating for our special requests. We loved the gas gireplace, outdoor fire pit
We arrived Friday evening and left Sunday morning. The home was perfect and relaxing and we spent a lot of time on the back porch taking in the views. Saturday we walked around Lake Junaluska and explored downtown Waynesville, both minutes away. Everything in the home was clean and cozy and we appreciated the updated open living space. We look forward to staying here again in the future, hopefully for longer, since there is so much to do and see in the area.
Great place for all ages! Got a true mountain experience for the grandkids. We roasted marshmallows at the fire pit and they all loved the little creek behind it! Had everything we needed.

It fit us 6 adults perfectly. We got lucky choosing this one.
Over the river and through the woods and up to gorgeous views! This property has been thoroughly renovated on the main floor with a well appointed kitchen, inviting living room space, wrap around porch, Fire pit area, and two comfortable beds and baths. Conveniently located near Waynesville, we enjoyed the downtown area with its restaurants and shops. Rode on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Visited Asheville. But more importantly, spent quality time as a family! The owner was super responsive when the access code provided via VRBO was inaccurate. The only nonissue was that no one wanted to stay in the downstairs bedroom suite. The pictures are accurate. We just didn't realize it was connected to partially finished basement space. More family togetherness! Would stay there again for sure!
Nice property well keep, owner available to answer questions. We originally planned on staying 2 weeks but decided to stay an extra week. If you like the mtns you will like this view, while the drive up was a challenge after a day or two it became very manageable.
I brought my family to the mountains for the weekend. Excellent location we were able to shop, dine and spend a day on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The home is family and pet friendly. We spent one evening playing games and roasting marshmallows by the the fire-pit. They supply everything you need minus toiletries. The home has a beautiful view of the sunset off the top porch which I loved. We will definitely be back.

Disappointed on arrival
The place is nice. Good location. However, They forgot we were coming. The place was not cleaned up from prior people. After a long day of driving we had to wash sheets, clean tub, scrub kitchen sinks and counters so we could eat and sleep. The bathroom door in one bedroom wouldn’t close all the way. Owner gave us a credit for one day, that was appreciated.

I am very sorry for the state of the house upon your arrival. That is certainly not the standard for how the house is presented to our guests. We had hoped that the refund of a full day would make up for our mistake. It should also be noted that the cleaner did come to the house and clean the next morning.
Can’t beat the price! Great if you don’t require bells and whistles.
A little dated. Carpet was very stained but clean. The hall bathroom shower will scream at you which we all got a good laugh at. The house rules need to be posted on website for review when booking as we were unaware of the dogs on bed policy and scrambled for extra coverings. All in all, this was a clean, quiet home to use as a base for our vacation outings. Beware of the steep road as my daughters car did bog down on the steep curves.

Hi Karen, Thanks for your review and taking care of the house during your stay! I agree the house needs a few updates here and there and I have been chipping away at it over the last few years, with more planned in the very near future.
The options for sharing house rules and policies on VRBO are overly
complicated and VRBO applies character limits in place for specific things like pet instructions. For this reason I've got the notebook in the living room containing house rules, instructions and other helpful information. I am a dog owner as well but do not allowed mine to sleep in the beds with me. I understand that other people do and ask that a sheet be placed on the bed so I am able to continue to keep my pet fee low so fur kids can join on adventures.
The paved road up to the house can be a bit overwhelming to those not used to driving in the mountains. I've not had a problem navigating the roads, including pulling a trailer loaded with furniture when I acquired the house.

Sorry to say, but disappointing- needs work
Steven seems to be a very nice guy and is great on communication, but the property definitely needs some TLC, and a good scrubbing.
Positives- nice big deck areas (were dirty), nice view and sunsets, quiet, very peaceful and relaxing. Nice fire pit area (no wood- bring your own). Good hot water and A/C. Downstairs living area is clearly newer and than upstairs and a great area for family/friends to have their own space. Washer and dryer work great. Fridge keeps food nice and cold but ice maker does not appear to work (didn't care about that this is just an FYI. There are trays). Nice to wake up to birds singing!
Negatives- the upstairs carpet is disgusting and I would not consider staying there unless it was replaced. We walked in and it stunk VERY strongly like dog- there are large and numerous stains on the carpet. Steven got right back to us regarding this issue and told us to spray odorban on it which did help, but a horrid first impression. We opened the windows as much as possible. We stayed for 2 weeks and I sprayed odorban about every other day. The last 3 nights my daughter came with her dog, but we did not have a dog the other 11 days, so it was not from us. It was quite difficult to get past that odor!
As mentioned above, the decks were very dirty. There were 2 rocking chairs downstairs- one was broken. 6 Adirondack chairs-2 were broken. The outside table had to be leveled in order to eat off of it and the downstairs outside end tables were filthy. Kitchen stove had large melted plastic on one burner and could use a good scrubbing. There is definitely a need to replace and provide more cooking pots and pans and forks-I think there was a total of 6 miscellaneous sized forks. I used baking dishes but they needed to be covered in foil- they were pretty gross.
The property would best be described as tired and in need of some TLC. (And a better cleaning crew)
The drive up to the property is quite steep and there are some hairpin turns. This is not anything bad about the property-just be prepared for that. We wanted to be up high with a view so that is what we got. We jokingly referred to it as "one beer hill" because you would be very foolish to have more than one beer and drive up it. We made sure to be back before it was totally dark out after we drove up it in the dark once- it was pretty scary.
I am not a person to leave a negative review and it pains me to do so but I also think this is a realistic view of the property.

Hi, Ellen. Thank you for taking the time to write such a lengthy review. I believe there may be a disconnect between you & other satisfied guests in terms of the overall state of the house.
• While I agree with your dislike of the carpet, it is not filthy & always cleaned after a rental. If there has been staining or damage reported by the cleaning company, they will steam clean the carpet. Additionally, I deep clean the carpet upon every visit to the house for maintenance & upkeep. As I shared during a phone conversation, there are plans to replace it but impacts from covid & problems with contractors in the area delayed plans until later this year.
• I appreciate feedback about the cleanliness of the dishes & passed along your concerns to the cleaning company. I’ve utilized the same cleaning company for the last 3 years, usually to rave reviews on how clean & fresh the property is upon arrival. Pots & pans are spot checked & cleaned as needed as part of their current process. I try to maintain a resonable cleaning fee by trusting guests will clean up after themselves.
• I’ve not received complaints from previous guests about any foul smells indoors from other guests. The house is pet-friendly & you stated during one of our calls “you were concerned about renting a pet-friendly house & only doing so for your daughter to bring her dog”. I’m sorry your experience with a pet-friendly house was negative. The guests who checked in the weekend prior as well as the following weekend did not report any foul smells.
• The upstairs kitchen is fully stocked with everything needed to prepare & cook meals. Sometimes items accidentally leave the property with guests or are damaged & not reported, (pitched in the trash). I will take thorough inventory of all kitchen items during my next stay in July.
• The cleaning company wipes down the outdoor table on the deck after each visit but outside is outside. This is a mountain property where afternoon showers frequently pop up with gusty winds & rain. It is unreasonable to expect the decks to be as clean as the inside of the house. I provide cleaning spray & plenty of paper towels for guests to wipe down outdoor furniture.
• Regarding the broken chairs. I noticed 1 rocking chair was broken during my last visit but ran out of time to properly dispose it. I take full responsibility for this. In terms of the broken patio chairs, my retired neighbors down the hill informed me 1 of the patio chairs blew down the hill & returned it to the porch. I was not aware it was broken. Things like this happen as sometimes guests forget to return furniture to its correct location. I will look at all the outdoor furniture on my next visit in July.
• Navigating the neighborhood mountain road: The road is paved all the way to the driveway & the HOA does a good job maintaining it despite the range of weather conditions the mountain endures throughout the year. However, it is a mountain road & the house is located at ~3500 ft above sea level or ~1500 ft of elev. above the neighborhood entrance. This entails switchbacks & some steep climbs to gain that elevation. Guests from all parts of the country enjoyed their stay at my house without any problems or complaints about the roads, even during snowstorms in 2022. Everyone’s threshold for what’s acceptable to them is different. I’ve provided the location of the house in the listing, allowing prospective renters to get an idea of what the road to the house is like.
About the host
Hosted by Steven George
I visited the NC mountains for the first time in the mid-90s and was immediately hooked. As an avid mountain biker and hiker the area offers many great trails and plenty of local breweries to enjoy a cold snack afterwards.
I've been fortunate enough to share my piece of the mountains with guests as an airbnb/VRBO host since 2013.
Why they chose this property
I fell in love with this house the moment I stepped onto the deck, seeing the long range view and hearing the creek on the property's edge burbling in the background. The sunsets rarely disappoint, inviting you to take a break with your beverage of choise to enjoy the colors and the tranquility of the mountain.
What makes this property unique
With close proximity to town you can enjoy being away from it all while still being close to restaurants, shopping and local breweries!
