About this property

APPEALING SUNNY BACH - GREAT VIEWS.


Open plan living onto a deck area, ideal for outdoor entertaining.
Easy access to Queen Charlotte walking/cycling track - beautiful native scenery abound.
Easy drive to either the Portage Resort, or Te Mahia for a coffee or vino

This is a comfortable home with 2 double bedrooms upstairs and a Bunkroom on the lower deck. This room has a single bed, mattress, and bunks (can sleep 4) - all rooms have duvets and blankets provided, however guests do need to provide their own linen(sheets/pillowcases/towels/bathmats/tea towels).
No Wifi, however Hotspot works well on your cell phone. Boardgames, cards, DVD player (and DVD’s) and books are available for your use.

There is a wonderful private cove just a short walk away through native bush - suitable for swimming for all abilities, fishing and kayaking.

Whilst there are no local grocery shops, basic supplies can be purchased at Te Mahia (might pay to phone first, especially in Winter), and there is a Water Taxi available to Picton via Torea Bay within a 5 minute drive.

Prices are for 2 people, with extra people $15 each. Two night minimum stay. This is our family holiday home that's rented out to contribute toward the running costs. Our neighbours live here permanently as do other families on the road. Please be respectful to them by keeping noise levels low and distractions to a minimum. This is not a party house for teenagers.

We ask visitors to please clean up and leave the house as it was found. It is very easy care! We would be grateful if you could take all rubbish away with you, and we hope that you will love your time here in the Sounds.
Special conditions:
Please conserve your use of water as we are reliant on rainwater up here in the Sounds. We recommend boiling your drinking water first.

NOTE: Under Kiwi bach tradition you are expected to: Clean the house and do the dishes before you leave; Bring your own linen (sheets/pillowcases/towels/bathmats/tea towels).

I cannot change the Book a Bach wording, but: I give 100% refunds and the beds downstairs are not futons: there is a single bunk bed set, a single bed, and a matress to use if needed.

Superb location and beautiful house

So long as you don't mind the long, windy, narrow road to get there, it is worth it! Fabulous view and with Portage just a few minutes away, you can always get a cooked meal if you are feeling lazy!

Would book again in a heartbeat! This holiday home boosts fantastic views in a very remote area. Be aware that there is really not much „civilisation“ in this area, no wifi, quite a few steps to climb, plus you have to bring your own linen and need to clean up behingd you. But you get a wonderful peaceful (family) vacation. Views and house are even better than advertised!

Great views. Very relaxing. Stayed for 4 nights over Christmas with our 2 adult sons. Eating our meal on the deck, watching the wood pigeons swoop and dive would be the enduring memory for us. The birdsong in the early morning is amazing also.The house is very well stocked and was clean on arrival.Really enjoyed the layout of the house upstairs. The listing states clearly that the bedroom with the single beds is off the downstairs deck, but what's not clear perhaps is that that bedroom is only accessible from walking out the front door, down 2 sets of steps and across a deck. There's no internal access. If I had young kids I don't think this would be ideal. Nothing to stop you moving some mattresses upstairs tho.There is a lovely small beach not far. A bit of scrambling to get to but good fishing from there. We caught heaps of spottys there and watched the stingrays. The rocks are covered in oyster and mussel shells so footwear is essential. Carrying a dble kayak up and down is not an option, but Cowshed Bay not far away is an ideal launch spot.There are a number of other areas to fish from, nearby. Torea Wharf is popular. The Queen Charlotte track is nearby also.Portage is a 5-10min drive away. Lots of other bays further around either side.

Restful bach with amazing views

We really enjoyed renting this bach it fitted our group of 8 including 4 children really well. The bach was clean spacious and well appointed with everything we needed. Kim was very helpful throughout the process from our initial enquiry Nd including any questions we had prior to our booking. Loved the view and enjoyed the location.

This place has the most magnificent view over Kenepuru Sound. Very comfortable, more than your average Bach. The kids spent hours down at the Cove, swimming and skimming stones.

The house is large, very well equipped, comfortable, and situated so ideally for views and birdsong. Lovely spot. We got some weather and the house was nice and cozy even with whipping winds and thrashing rain. You can lose hours just looking at the ever changing clouds and water.

The view is priceless!

A brilliant bach! Plenty of space for a large group - decent sized lounge and well equipped kitchen. Very comfy beds, 2 toilets which was really handy, and a nice assortment of games. The deck though is the best - a large table and chairs to while away the evening with a cold wine and the setting sun!

If you are looking for a house in the middle of Kenepuru sounds , This is the house. Peaceful with views up and down the sound. We pinched ourselves every day just to make sure we were not dreaming. Very close to Queen Charlette sounds walk .The house is very comfortable and easy to relax in. Very clean and tidy. Great host. We loved it. Regards Kevin

House with a view

We had a wonderful stay! The house sits up on the hill and has a panoramic view of the sounds. We just sat and watched the boats cruising the sounds, so majestic. A nice tyre walk down to a little bay just 50 metres from the house is beautiful. Diving into the water off the rocks and seeing the sea life fantastic. Would definitely recommend.
