About this property

Happy Trails: woodland retreat with sauna and deck

Summary:

Happy Trails is a log-framed cabin with wrap-around porch and sauna, located in the Upper Methow Valley, close to the outdoor adventure hub of Mazama. The home is well furnished and thoughtfully equipped for vacation stays, with 3 three bedrooms and a sleeping sofa. Situated on 9 acres of woodland shared with two other cabins, these are among the few area vacation rentals with private riverfront on the property (250 yards from the cabin).

The Space:

Happy Trails has an open floor plan, radiant floor and stove heat, and vaulted views of the woods and Goat Peak. Built with timber felled and milled on-site, this home is uniquely suited for families with children and well-behaved pups. The shared woodland acreage provides seclusion and space for kids to play and explore, there’s even a swing and tree house. Not only does this cabin have great trail access, a wrap-around porch and its own woodland, it has a sauna for your après-ski, hike or bike relaxation.

Downstairs is the open plan living room with two sofas (one is a queen hideabed) and an easy chair, seating seven in total, along with a well-stocked kitchen and a dining table for six. Also on the ground floor are a queen bedroom, a bunk room with a twin-over-full bunk bed and a smaller kids bunk with short beds, and a ¾ bathroom with a shower and laundry. There is ample space in the entryway for boots and coats. Upstairs is the loft rec room with another couch and the primary bedroom with a king bed and an ensuite with a jacuzzi bath.

The home’s amenities include: more than 200 movies, stereo with AUX input, wireless Sonos speaker, WiFi, gas BBQ, washer/dryer, personal touches throughout. The cabin also features a dry sauna (in the detached ‘sauna shack’) and a wrap around deck.

Happy Trails sleeps 6 adults in beds, with an additional couple on the sleeping sofa (note you will need to rearrange furniture), and two small children on the kid's bunk bed (maximum occupancy is 10). The sleeping arrangements are as follows:

- Bedroom 1: King Bed

- Bedroom 2: Queen Bed

- Bedroom 3: Bunk room with twin-over-full bunk bed, and a kids bunk bed with short beds.

- Living room: Sofa folds out into a queen sized bed

The Neighborhood:

The home sits within 9 acres of pine and aspen woodland (shared with two other cabins), with 500 feet of riverfront on the property. Located in the Upper Methow Valley just across Highway 20 from Freestone Lake and the Methow Community Trail. The cabin is set back 100 yards from the road. The community trail connects to nearly 200 km of Methow Valley's groomed trails for cross country skiing and biking. The cabin's property borders the Early Winters Forest Service property providing extra acreage along the river to snowshoe, play, and explore.

It’s a 17 minute drive to the Cutthroat Lake trailhead, 19 minutes to Washington Pass and 25 minutes to Maple Pass trailhead (*drive times according to google maps), making this one of the closest rental cabins to the North Cascade National Park with its many world-class hiking trails. Ideally located for beating the crowds and snagging a trailhead parking spot at peak seasons.

The Mazama Store, with its great bakery and ‘a little bit of everything good’ is just a 5 minute drive or 10 minute bike ride from the cabin; around 20 minutes by ski (depending how fast you slide and glide). Mountain bike and ski rentals are also available in Mazama.

The old west town of Winthrop is 15 miles and under 20 minutes drive down valley, with its great shopping, bakery and dining establishments; the Shafer Museum is also worth a visit to learn about the local history. Winthrop has a fun ice skating rink and is the jumping off point for Methow Rafting’s raft and float tubing on the Methow River. Winthrop’s annual calendar of events includes the Rhythm and Blues Festival, Vintage Car Rally, Memorial Day Rodeo, and Christmas At The End Of The Road (check the town’s website for details).

Getting Around:

Getting here: May to November, from Seattle and the westside, you can drive over highway 20 and Washington Pass (check WSDOT for closures). Alternate, and winter routes from Seattle are via I90, Snoqualmie Pass and Blewett Pass, or highway 2 over Stevens Pass (check WSDOT for driving conditions). Combine these routes and you have the scenic Cascade Loop. Nearest major airport is Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (247.0 miles).

Getting Around: it’s a 5 minute drive into Mazama. Winthrop is under 20 minutes drive / 15 miles south on 20. Methow Motion provides a private car service throughout the Methow valley. The Methow Community Trail is just over Hwy 20 at the end of the driveway from this property
