About the host
Hosted by Jenepher Burton-Johanson
We live in Portland, Maine, just an hour south of Georgetown Island. We had looked and looked for a long time to find a property for the 3 of us to call our own. We were open to renovating a place, but it had to be on the ocean and be, well, exceptional in some way. It has been said that you can’t change a location, which we believe is correct. So, if that is the case, wouldn’t you prefer to watch the sun as it closes out the day from your deck or dining table? We may have gotten more than we originally figured in the renovation department but everything worked out in the end. Now we get to share this wonderful spot with folks from all over the country as well as our extended family and friends which is the best feeling.
Why they chose this property
Bay Point is both charming and vibrant. For decades the area was home to year ‘round fishing families. Most of the cottages have shifted to seasonal families who have come here for ages and have a deep adoration for this small community. Devotées I would say. It’s hard not to fall in love with a place that has both significant natural beauty as well as smart, funny, caring and capable neighbors.
What makes this property unique
Our property is literally “on the rocks” and over the ledges…at night while you are sleeping, the high tide will very likely be sploshing around underneath you. Think sailors’ lullaby…During the day time there is loads of wild life to be seen, eagles, osprey, geese, ducks, seals, striped bass jumping, pogies swirling as well as kayakers, pleasure boaters and fishermen. Waterfront access and a protected sandy beach with in walking distance.
