About this property
Waterfront Cottage with Sunsets, Hot Tub and Dock access
(Clarification on cancellation policy: We will fully refund your $$ if we can find a renter and are almost always able to. That's just not one of the options on vrbo. Also, fyi that our housecleaner is paid the full cleaning fee.)
This cottage is feet from the water in serene Long Cove on the Damariscotta River. The deck and hot tub face the widest part of the river (which is actually a mile-wide bay off of the ocean) and the famous Maine sunset. The dock and sun-warmed rocks provide access for swimmers. Though otherwise nestled into the trees, the house has a large lawn off to one side for croquet or tossing a ball. The rocks in the river are often covered with seals.
The cottage itself is beautifully restored - all wood inside and out - with an open floor plan and skylights in the kitchen. Pretty much all of the comforts of home are provided, including linens and a fully outfitted kitchen. Wood is stacked for the fireplace all year long.
There are a number of hiking trails nearby. The kayak rental place in town will deliver and/or pick up kayaks. You can rent in town and kayak back to the cottage; put in at Biscay Pond and kayak thru the wetlands to Bristol; or paddle to some nearby islands with public access for hiking, including one with a pair of nesting bald eagles. Or bring your bikes and peddle to Pemaquid Beach or Lighthouse. There’s a big pot in the kitchen if you want to purchase lobsters at the co-op – or they’ll cook ‘em right up for you there. Life is good at 'Marguerite’s Cottage'…
A note on pets: Up to 2 dogs or cats are welcome so long as the owner will vouch for their being well-behaved and plan on vaccuuming up hair. Also, if your pooch(es) are prone to barking or howling when left alone or within earshot of another dog, please plan to muzzle them. Your immediate neighbors will thank you and the sound really carries when the water is calm.

About the host
Hosted by Kirsten Denney
Our family has lived in this area forever. Our granddad attended the one-room schoolhouse down the road and his father logged a good chunk of the peninsula (selling the land for a buck an acre (!) when he was done). So, this little slice of paradise has always been near and dear in our hearts.
Why they chose this property
It's down the road from what was our grandparent's home and the owner was a longtime friend of theirs. We always loved the cottage and it's on one of the loveliest spots on the river. It's rare in terms of being right on the water - and everyone gets a kick out of the seals out on the rocks out in the river.
What makes this property unique
Being so close to the water, with an amazing view, a hot tub and dock access (for swimming or putting in kayaks). It's also really cute and cozy. It's booked all but a handful of weeks by our regular annual guests, so they love it! (Unfortunately, that also means fewer reviews.)
