My family and I had a wonderful New Years holiday at Lewdog Lodge. We enjoyed the beautiful views of the mountains from the deck, super close to all the main attractions we visited but with all of the privacy expected for a cabin. The kitchen was pretty much fully stocked which was a pleasant surprise as well. The owner was great always responded quickly. Had an amazing time!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We had everything we needed and more. It was a wonderful vacation. Highly recommend. Owners were available and responsive to questions.

Great for families with teens!
We did bring our 4WD truck because of other reviews. Our GPS showed us arriving at a few houses before Lewdog Lodge, so that was a little confusing. There is a short gravel path with steps to get to the cabin. When we arrived, everything was very clean and well stocked. It’s a little eclectic, but lacked nothing. It has great views, and our teens loved the downstairs space. Watch out for the ladder down though, it is very steep! Overall, it was a great place for our family.

Comfortable cabin with great views!
The cabin was just as advertised, very homey and comfortable. The weather was brisk but the heating system worked well; the fireplace also made the cabin quite cozy. We enjoyed cooking in the well-stocked kitchen. We noticed, but didn't use, the herbs and spices in the cabinets, which would have been handy had we not brought everything we needed. Our tall twenty-somethings bunked downstairs and used the futon since they thought the bunk beds were too confining, but they appreciated the privacy of having their own space with a bathroom. The master bed and bath were perfect for my husband and me. The view was incredible and we took advantage of the hiking trails on the nearby Parkway, despite the clouds and fog on Friday. The access road is quite steep and, as we had sleet and freezing rain the last night, we were glad to have our four-wheel-drive truck to get out the next morning. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving at Lewdog Lodge!

Would recommend that you have a 4 wheel drive car to access rental.
The view was outstanding home was also nicely furnished. Would not recommend for differently abled or physical limitations. Basement sleeping area was steep stairs or use of outside door. Also would not recommend for person with allergies to pets. Home has overpowering dog smell. Our trip was cut short due to an allergic reaction to pet dander. We kept windows of home open the entire time. I would not recommend this rental.

Incredible panoramic view!
Lewdog made for a perfect birthday getaway. Very easy to get to and central to everything. The home was well equipped and the master bed was so comfortable (which is rare for most rentals). The outdoor space is an incredible place to watch the sunrise and set. Whether you are having coffee or a glass of wine... it’s heaven among the treetops. I can’t wait to stay there again.

Loved Lewdog Cabin
Had a wonderful stay at the cabin over pre-July 4th weekend.
The cabin is very comfortable and well equipped with just about everything we needed for our stay. We have two children, aged 11 and 9, who slept in the downstairs area – great cool factor in having their own space and bathroom down the ladder stairs (and my 9 year old loved comparing her hands to the Mommy poster above the top bunk!)
There are many homey touches throughout the cabin, art of local attractions, and lovely family pictures. It’s clear the owner has put thought into making it comfortable – thank you. There are screens on most of the windows, and we had every one of those open at night keeping the cabin at a nice cool temperature. There are windows around three quarters of the cabin and the views are beautiful. Thank you for having binoculars there, we were really excited to realize we could see the swinging bridge. And watching the sunrise over Grandfather Mountain from the couch our last morning was a true treat.
The kitchen is well equipped and has a new looking quiet dishwasher. The washing machine is convenient. Good water pressure in the shower. Comfy couch and chairs round a pretty coffee table for game night. Didn’t turn the TV on, but it looked good! Wi-Fi was a big help for getting directions. Great dining table surrounded by nice family pictures (would love to know where the mountain views were with the very blue/green lake?)
Can’t say enough good things about this place. Thank you!!

Peaceful mountain cabin with beautiful views
The cabin is very peaceful and cozy. The view from the deck is beautiful. The lower level is accessed via a very steep and narrow ladder-type staircase. Anyone with mobility issues or of larger size would have difficulty getting up and down the stairs. The lower level is well-suited as a sleeping area for children and young adults. If you arrive after dark for check-in, I would highly recommend a flashlight. The entrance to the cabin is on a wooded gravel path that leads down to a set of slate steps that are difficult to navigate in the dark especially with standard rolling luggage. There is, however, a motion activated floodlight that can be turned on once you access the cabin for the first time. Overall, it is a lovely well-appointed cabin with beautiful views.

Great way to get away from it all
Mountain-side cabin with great views. My kids loved having their own level and bathroom. They went up and down the steps 100 times. We ate dinner on the deck for dinner. We went to Grandfather Mountain (15 min) and Roan Mountain (25 min) and had a wonderful time experiencing nature and fresh air. Make sure you get there in the daylight. It would be tough to find otherwise, the roads up the hill are small and not well marked. The view is totally worth it once you find it. The owner was very helpful and easy to contact.

Stunning Views of Grandfather Mountain in a family friendly cabin
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the LewDog lodge and would definitely come back again! The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed to cook our meals and the furnishings were very comfortable....but the VIEW....oh my goodness....the view was the BEST part of our stay. The entire east side of the cabin is all windows and the sunrises were glorious. Even one evening the colors fro the sunset reflected back on the clouds hovering over Grandfather Mountain. It was spectacular. We had made reservations with the intent to ski most of the long weekend but the weather was too warm. We did spend part of one day at Sugar Mountain. Its an easy 15-20min drive. Since we didn't get out ski time, we instead ventured out to Linville Caverns (our son had never been in a cave), Linville Falls and drove on the Blue Ridge Parkway to see the Linn Cove Viaduct. We spent an entire day on Grandfather Mountain enjoying the views from the bridge and hiked all the way up to Attic Window Peak (the trail is not for the faint of heart!!!). I didn't realize until we were home and my photos were blown up on the computer screen that we could have actually SEEN the Swinging Bridge from LewDog Lodge had we used binoculars. Pretty cool. On the way out we stopped at Wiseman's View of Linville Gorge: BREATHTAKING. All in all it was a fabulous trip and The LewDog Lodge is a fabulous place to stay! Highly recommend!!

Perfect Thanksgiving Getaway
It's always difficult to tell by only looking at photos if a place is exactly what you're looking for in a mountain retreat. Lewdog Lodge turned out to be just what we wanted. It is so wholesome, comfortable and loaded with personality that we felt at ease as soon as we stepped inside. The views of Grandfather mountain are as good as it gets.
Judy was a pleasure to deal with, and I'd recommend Lewdog Lodge to anyone. We'd rent it again in a heart beat.

A Genuine Cabin in the Mountains!
Our family of four came to Linville for a 3 day weekend. Lewdog's cabin had great reviews & was the perfect location for hiking Grandfather Mtn & going to Linville Cavern.
It was easy to book - Judy was a pleasure to deal with & gave us lots of suggestions on things we could do while there & told us we could call her anytime. I highly suggest downloading a map & either printing it or use your phone to take a snapshot of the map screen in case you lose your cell signal before you get to the cabin. When you arrive you will notice a bump out on the road between this cabin & the one next door. You can park there. It was just a few steps down the walkway to the front door. When we walked in we knew we had made the right choice. Lewdog's was everything we were hoping for. It's not a cookie cutter condo, but a private cabin filled with pretty little touches that let you know this is also someone's home. The first thing you will notice is the magnificent views of Grandfather Mtn & the beautiful panoramic scenery from every window! We were there during the height of the fall season & the pictures I took from the deck of this cabin are spectacular!
The dining room seats four but there is another little dining table in the kitchen that seats two. The main bedroom has a king bed and a Roku TV. Bed comfort is subjective but I will say it is more firm than soft, & has a lightweight down topper. The steps to the downstairs are more of a ladder; steep but certainly not an issue for most. I went up and down several times with ease - I'm 55 & not an athlete by any means lol. My two sons in their 20's stayed down there - one used the full size & the other took the bottom bunk. They had a bathroom as well & found everything to be clean & neat! We cooked breakfast each day & supper once in the well-stocked kitchen. But the best part for us was the wood burning fireplace. It was raining the day we arrived & we were glad to have one indoors! We purchased wood at Lowes Foods & enjoyed the warmth & scents that only a wood fire can give, while we played games. The TV is a Roku with Netflix & worked great.
We went to Linville Caverns, hiked the Profile Trail one day & the next I was able to check the swinging bridge on Grandfather Mt off my bucket list! We made wonderdul memories here. Judy even called the night we arrived home to ask about our weekend! I highly recommend Lewdog's & we would stay here again! FYI: eat at the Pedallin' Pig for some great BBQ!

Great mountain cottage!
We arrived after dark so it was a bit hard to find but we were very happy with the great little house. The view can't be beat and house was very well decorated and had everything we needed. The kitchen has all the tools you need for cooking. Working with the owners to get access to the house was super easy. One text message and done. The stairs to get to the downstairs bedroom is more of a ladder so if you have small kids or people that can't use a ladder then I don't recommend this place. My kids are 6 and 8 so they thought it was awesome. Close to the Blue Ridge Parkway and other mountain activities.

Cozy and great location
We stayed at the house during Thanksgiving break. We went with our 12 and 14 year old boys. Our main goal was to hike Grandfather Mt. for the 4th time. The house had a beautiful view of the mountain. The first morning there was a very light snow that was awesome for our Florida family. The cold snap caused ice to form on the Swinging bridge at Grandfather and it was gorgeous. That area looked like a winter wonderland with all the trees covered with ice. We hiked a 6hr hike the next day. The temp was in the 40s and sunny. We highly recommend hiking this area if you enjoy hiking and have kids. There are steep areas with ladders and cables which the kids love but make sure your family is athletic. (My kids have hiked the peaks since they were 5 yrs old). Every visit is a new experience. We also recommend Linville Caverns tour. While in Linville have lunch at Louise's. Very yummy food. If you are coming during this time there are snow slopes available for tubing and skiing, but check when they are open. They may be closed for a few days while making snow.
As for the house, it had everything we needed and was well maintained. We cooked a few nights in and found all the supplies we needed. There are windows all around the house so the view is always spectacular. The house stayed nice and warm during the chilly nights and it was easy to find. We will definitely try to book this house again next time we visit the area. A small note about the house. It is on a slope that causes a very light slant inside the house. For anyone who has suffered true medical vertigo it may not be the house for you. My husband was having some dizzy spells for the first 24 hrs until he got adjusted. For the rest of the population it should not be noticeable.

Loved it!!
This sweet little house was perfect for our family of 5. We enjoyed several days of kayaking, hiking, fly fishing, and exploring. After a long day of adventure, Lewdog Lodge was just the place to relax and enjoy the serenity of the mountains. The morning views and the cheeky little birds outside called me each morning to join them for a cup of coffee. This place is very warm and welcoming. Lewdog Lodge is definitely a love shared by the owners with everyone who walks through the doors. We will definitely be back.

About the host
Hosted by Judy Jones
We have been coming to the mountains of North Carolina for many years. We love to hike and there are many great trails right off the Blue Ridge Parkway. When we found our cabin we were so excited. It is just what we wanted.
Why they chose this property
It is the prettiest area in the North Carolina Mountains. Close to all the Blue Ridge Mountains & the Smoky Mountains have to offer, quaint mountain towns of Linville, Banner Elk, Blowing Rock & Boone, ski slopes nearby, good hiking trails, wonderful restaurants, great shopping, etc.
What makes this property unique
Our pretty view of Grandfather Mountain; it is constantly changing depending on the weather. Because we are at an elevation of approximately 3800 feet, it rarely gets above 80 degrees in the summer. In the mornings & evenings you frequently need a sweater. We live in a warm climate that is very hot in the summer and rarely snows in the winter. This location affords us a break from the heat in the summer and lots of snow in the winter.
