About the host
Hosted by Ruth
Ruth and Chester have been coming to Vallecito Lake for as long as they can remember. They spent their honeymoon up by the lake, in one of the first cabins ever built in this area. That little cabin was a treasured family vacation spot for Chester's family, and a place that Ruth & Chester brought their kids every summer. In the 2001 Missionary Ridge fire, that special place was lost. A few sad summers went by without Vallecito Lake for the family, and then serendipitously, they rescued a lost family, who in turn told them about this exact cabin. With grandchildren now in the mix, this Vallecito family tradition is alive and well!
Why they chose this property
This area of the Vallecito Valley is quiet, and close to Vallecito Creek Campground where there are amazing hiking trails back into the wilderness along the river. The lake is just down the road, as are the local stores and restaurants.
What makes this property unique
Although this family cabin has most of the comforts of home, it has the feel of times gone by. Once you arrive, you will not want to leave. It is half a mile up a dirt road from the main road, and across a small wood bridge that spans the creek that runs on the property. There are huge pine trees and plenty of aspens surrounding the large deck that overlooks the treetops of Vallecito Valley. Sitting on the deck with your morning coffee, watching the birds, deer, chipmunks, and other wildlife just puts the world in perspective. The night skies are amazing, and we often see shooting stars, as well as the Milky Way. Campfire time is the best with family or friends, and we have a big stone campfire pit, and plenty of chairs to pull around the fire. Marshmallow forks provided! Sleeping with the windows open at night is the best, you can hear the waterfall and the creek.
