Family Downtime

We enjoyed our family vacation with our grown children and their significant others and our youngest son and his friend. Always a wonderful time enjoying the private setting the 4x4 beach offers and private pool at the house.

Stones throw is the best

This is our 4th year in a row and it was the best. The owner is doing upgrades every year and is showing improvement every year . We love the location and we are looking forward to our next stay

Remote and awesome!

It was a great week on the ocean. Weather cooperated and so did the horses. We saw them as well as dolphins daily. A perfect place to reunite with loved ones.

What a great place to stay! The views are amazing, sunrises, sunsets, horses & dolphins! The space was perfect for the 10 of us. The kids enjoyed the pool and the game room! We will definitely stay again. Thomas was very quick to respond any time we had questions or needed something!

Great location and views! The pool and hot tub were definitely the highlights. The house was very spacious for our group of eleven. The house definitely is in need of some upgrades but the owner seems to have plans for that. Saw lots of horses. The teenagers spent a lot of evening working in their pool playing. Cleaning crew could definitely do better. We did a lot of cleaning our selves upon check in, mostly in the kitchen and bathrooms. Overall we would definitely come back to this beautiful location.

Best family vacation!

This was our first family vacation with our daughter and we had the best time! The house was perfect for our family, siblings, and parents and the location is amazing! Everything was clean, the house was very spacious, and the renovated top bedroom was beautiful! The horses were nearby most days too! This place was absolutely a dream. Situated two miles up the 4x4 beach. It was easy to find and assessable with the right vehicle. Beautiful ocean views.We had so much fun here ! We will be coming back again. This place was perfect for our family and little ones. As the beach is not crowded. Thank you for allowing us to stay !!

Wonderful family getaway!

Even though most of the week was rough waters and winds, we had the best time!! We have already been talking about booking for next year on our ride home. The location was perfect, the views even better! We got to see the horses daily and got some pretty pictures of them on the beach! We loved the convenience of the pool and hot tub on the days that were too windy to sit at the beach, we enjoyed game nights at the big dining room table and the pool table in the bottom floor! We can’t wait to stay again!

Amazing trip

We stayed with family ranging from 1-66 and had a great time. The location is amazing and being able to walk to the beach was key as we had a big group and people could easily go back and forth as they pleased. The house is large and fit us all comfortably. Owner was very responsive when we had issues with the AC. The house is in the process of being updated which the owner was very upfront about. We really wanted a more secluded and not touristy type of beach vacation and this really provided that!

August Visit 2023

Overall, the house was very spacious for (6) visitors. We had plenty of bedroom and restroom space, and could easily gather in the kitchen and large living area upstairs too! It was easy access to the beach and I think about 4 miles from the paved road. There were plenty of TV options, board games, and cozy places to sit in the house after a long day at the beach, and the pool was very nice too! There were a few unexpected things that the host communicated with us on - the second refrigerator was down part of the stay, the lock to enter the house could never be figured out - it was very complicated and regular keypad would be great in the future, so we ended up having to leave it unlocked or use a hard key in a lock box. The AC and plumbing were also a little bit up an down, but the host indicated he would be replacing and servicing items after the busy season when the bookings weren't full. The water only ended up being off a few times and came back after about 20 minutes, and the window AC units helped greatly. Overall a nice stay but did take some coordination through the week.

June 2023 - Stone's Throw

We really enjoyed A Stone's Throw. As its namesake suggests, the house sits just off the beach, but is close enough to enjoy ocean views and the sound of crashing waves from the porch. We were even treated to views of the wild horses multiple times during the week, and one morning while catching the sunrise from the balcony, we enjoyed watching a young foal catch a short nap in the yard below. The updated master suite was very nice, and the other rooms also worked out well for our group. Despite 14 people, we never felt cramped, even at mealtimes in the kitchen/dining area. We loved having the pool for the kids, which was large enough for at least 10 people to swim and play comfortably. Pros of the house include the beautiful views from the porch, the large dining area with an extra covered picnic table outside on the porch, extra beach towels, beach toys, and beach chairs, and clear water quality. Our group has stayed on the 4x4 beach many times, and this house had the best water filtration system by far. No sulfur smell at all. Even when we ran into some minor issues, like foamy hot tub water on day 2, the host was very responsive and the pool maintenance company came over to re-balance the chemicals for us. We would definitely consider re-booking the next time we visit OBX.

Location is EVERYTHING!

We had an enjoyable week at A Stone's Throw. The Corolla wild horses walked through the yard numerous times throughout our stay and we even spotted dolphins several times off the coast. The house is about 2 miles up the 4 x 4 beach which took about 20 minutes to get to; just far enough for the fun of the 4 X 4 beach, but manageable to go to town when needed. We drove a vehicle down to the beach to transport all our beach gear, but some of us walked and it was literally just over a little dune. The pool was fantastic! It was great to go to the beach and then rinse off in the outdoor shower and hop in the pool. There was plenty of space for everyone inside with a wide open floor plan that included the kitchen, dining room and living room. Thomas was a wonderful host. He was more than willing to help in any way. We had a couple minor problems that were addressed immediately. This house is in the process of being refurbished so yes, some of it was dated, but the price Thomas is asking fairly reflects this. (I'm sure once it is completely done we won't be able to afford to stay here! LOL Because truly the location is amazing!) Our only advice was about the cleaning: it doesn't seem like the cleaning crew is breaking a sweat working. I think they are taking advantage of the fact that the homeowner is not at the location.
