We really enjoyed our stay at this property. You can’t beat the view! It had everything you need and is in a great area with a lot to do. We are already talking about going back next year!
We loved our stay overlooking the bay and the Atlantic Ocean. Our host made everything very easy and responded immediately when we had questions. We'll definitely stay there again when we're visiting family in the area.
Another lovely stay at this gem on the water. This is our second stay at Mermaid cottage. We love the location and feeling you have at this great house.
My husband and I truly enjoyed out stay at Mermaid Crossing Cottage. The house is lovely and had everything we needed for an enjoyable week. We have been vacationing in this area for years and were so happy to have found this gem of a property. Doreen is very responsive and helpful. We are planning to return next year.
We enjoyed our stay at Mermaid Crossing. The location is beautiful. The kitchen, main living area, and two of the 3 bedrooms are directly situated for optimal ocean views. The property is about 2 hrs from Acadia, which was a must see for us. The cottage provided a peaceful, relaxing vacation directly in the ocean.
What a great house. Beautiful view and location. Very comfortable, clean and well equipped. We are already looking forward to a return. Did I mention the views? Stunning.
We enjoyed the openness of Mermaid Crossing cottage and that we could see the ocean so easily from almost every room. The cottage is quaint but updated in all the right ways, clean and comfortable. The more nimble of our group loved the area next to the cottage, taking advantage of low tide to explore (not easy to access over the rocks but so interesting!). We're already making plans to return!
Our stay here was great! The place was comfortable, spotless, very well organized kitchen with everything you need. Love the light, cheerful paint colors & you can’t get any closer to being on the water unless you’re on a boat. And the view is spectacular for watching the sunrise, moonrise and occasional lobster boats hauling traps right in front of you. Look for treasures in the adjacent rocky beach area. The nearby LaVerna Preserve is highly recommended for a high reward hike through the woods to the ocean. Mother Nature’s sound machine, the rolling waves, gave us the best sleep! Our host Doreen was wonderful, very responsive and helpful. Thank you for a terrific week!
This property is truly lovely. View is stunning and the home is beautifully appointed with all possible needs addressed. (Including dog bowls and a leash!) The Hosts are thoughtful in all ways and communicate quickly and efficiently. We will be back!
This is a really lovely well maintained cottage in an amazing location. Kitchen is fully equipped with everything you might want. The beds are comfortable, sheets are soft, pillows are plump and we slept really well. The views from two of the bedrooms and the main level are really stunning and the deck is nice to sit out on with morning coffee or a meal. Owner was really lovely to deal with as well. 10/10. All the stars.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Mermaid Crossing. The house was right at the water’s edge with waves lapping at the rocky shoreline.
We cooked most meals in the kitchen and found it to be well stocked although it could use some new frying pans as the ones in the cabinet are quite old.
The bedrooms were comfortable with excellent views to the water from the bed.
It was a lovely week in New Harbor.
Our family of 4 had a great time at the Mermaid Cottage. The views are obviously amazing -- you can't beat the view out to the ocean. You can even hear the waves when you go to sleep at night. The house was was very clean, with ample pillows and towels and kitchen supplies. The managers were very helpful and thoughtful with communication. There are 3 bedrooms with a little alcove w/futon downstairs. We were there in winter and the propane fireplace works like a charm! Love the areas nearby. We recommend it.
My 3rd year staying at the Mermaid house and it may be my last. We are older and like to sit on the deck taking in the beautiful views. This year the deck furniture cushions were flat as a pancake and we sat on folding chairs. Also, the screens may need repairing as the main bathroom light brought in many tiny black bugs that seemed to just die and litter the sink. I used the smaller bath. Also, the 3 toilet bowls are all stained and appear to need flushing. These were the 3 main issues but the house is tired and requires attention.
This scruffy seaside cottage was a balm to our tired big city souls. The expansive views will be what we miss most. It’s very special.
If five star luxury is your preference then skip this rental. We had everything we needed and adored the creaky floors, charming closets, the cottage garden, narrow stairs and relaxing vintage vibe that encouraged us to slow down and watch the waves.
It has the feel of a well loved cottage that has been in the family for years.
While it might be time for replacing a few things here and there there was nothing that felt overlooked or neglected. We found the home clean and the beds extremely comfortable. The owner was very responsive, kind and helpful. While there are few restaurants close by the small grocery store was adequate for us. Delicious ready made chicken salad!
The location was the perfect home base for us to explore the area and we would be lucky to rent here again.
The Mermaid Crossing Cottage was just the right spot for our family to unwind for a couple of weeks. The views are beautiful from the living area and two front bedrooms. The mattresses were comfortable which is important to us. The kitchen had everything we needed including food processor, blender, a lobster pot and all the associated crackers and utensils. The location was convenient to lots of good food. We particularly loved the breakfast sandwiches and scones at Round Pond Coffee and the lobsters and atmosphere at Pemaquid Seafood. If you want explore shops, Damariscotta is a short drive away. Don’t miss Renys or the Skidompha used book store or gifts at 136. Sorry for the long review, but I just have a lot of good things to say about this house. It was very clean and there was excellent communication with the owner. The only thing I will mention that could be a negative for some, is that there is not good access to the water from the cottage if you have kayaks or kids/dogs that want to play in the water. This wasn’t an issue for us as we took our Kayak and dog a short ways away to Pemaquid historic site that has nice water access right next to the boat ramp.
