Sea Spray Cottages were built in 1950. There are 5 cottage in total, each cottage is similar to the others, but unique in its own way.
My wife and I have been operating the SEA SPRAY COTTAGES OBX for vacation rentals since 2009. We run a mom & pop operation, an experience from a day gone-by but thoroughly enjoyed by our guests.
Cottage #4 is very unique to the outer banks; it is a one-bedroom cottage. It is perfect for couples who want to spend time at the beach in a well-appointed space without distraction from others. The cottage has a large great room with living, dining, kitchen, and desk space. The bedroom has a queen-size bed (linens and towels NOT provided) and tiled bath with tub/shower combination. Cottage #4 has a wrap-around porch that has a seating area to enjoy your favorite beverages at and a private outdoor dining area. There also is a patio in the rose garden for sunning on days that the beach may be a little too cool. Check in is at 4 and check out is at 10.
Dogs are welcome, we try to keep it to 2 (the cottages are primarily for folks). $125 for the first two and $100 each after that.
Also unique to the Outer Banks, Cottage #4 is available for nightly stays even during the summer. In the summer we do have a 3-night minimum.
The location of Sea Spray Cottages OBX is ideal. Centrally located at Mile Post 11.7 in Nags Head, just south of the Nags Head pier and north of Snowbird Soft Serve Ice Cream Shop. It is on the west side of the 'beach road' and faces the cottages that backup to the ocean (they are ocean front).
If your desired dates of travel are not available in this cottage, we have others. There are 5 cottages in total at Sea Spray Cottages OBX, all similar in vintage, but unique from one another. If you are a regular on the Outer Banks, they are the gray cottages with the pink doors on the beach road in Nags Head.

SeaSpray was a very charming place. 4 cottages grouped together but with plenty of privacy and space. We stayed in Number 4 which is a quaint 1 bedroom. It was spacious yet maintained the era it was built. I would highly recommend staying here and look forward to our next get away.
We enjoyed our stay at SeaSpray #4. The cottage had all we needed and the property manager was very helpful when we encountered car troubles. The cottage is near everything: beach, food, attractions. Made our stay easy and sweet.
We stay here every time we come to Nags Head and the stay is always everything we needed. Everything is clean. Everything is easy. We wouldnt stay anywhere else.
Perfect for a couple or single traveler. Cute vintage cottage with days gone by charm. Impeccably clean, great owner and great location. Will return to take advantage of larger cottages on the property. Thanks for a great OBX visit!
The cottage is cute, it is nothing fancy but had all that we needed. It was comfortable, clean and it was a quiet area. We had beautiful weather and the walk to the beach is not bad. Lightning in the bathroom could be better!!
We loved being able to let the dogs out in the yard and the seating area was really cute and different. The proximity to the beach and local restaurants was convenient.
Definitely dated decor to match the 1950’s description. We found the bed to be a bit too uncomfortable, but the bedding they provided was comfortable and clean.

Thanks for the feedback. Mattress and couch replacement slated for this winter. 😉
Perfect for two people with room to spread out. The private outdoor porch with chairs and table was a nice place to relax. We had not realized that the washer/dryer was in a separate building and shared with the other units, but we had no issues getting a quick load done while there. Communication with owners was quick and easy to answer questions. We would definitely stay here again!
Wanted a place close to the beach for husband’s birthday where he could relax and I could bring both of our dogs. Sea spray cottage 4 was perfect, it was clean and spacious with enclosed back yard for our pups. Fully stocked kitchen, great water pressure in shower (both inside and out) I was within driving distance to multiple access points to beach. Very pleased so we even booked an extra night. Thanks for everything

Perfect size and location
We loved Sea Spray #4! It was perfect for the two of us and our chihuahua. Plenty of room, but no wasted money on extra bedrooms we didn't need. The location was great as well - a 5-minute walk to public beach access, and several eateries that could be accessed without having to go to the main highway. Our dog loved her private fenced yard! My only very minor criticism is the lighting in the shower could have been better, and the pillows were slightly flat, but these very minor details were no big deal! These cottages are a treasure. Thanks to the owners for preserving them!

If you have a favorite pillow, you should bring it. We actually have a little bit of a hard time keeping them around. The really nice ones end up sneeking into guests' cars, unintentionally, I think for the most part, but they get gone all the same.

Spring Break 2019
Nice Cottage with large living room and nearby beach access. Close to many activities and restaurants. Cozy and comfortable.
Close quarters with neighboring cottages can restrict ability to relax on deck. Having to bring own bed linens and towels is inconvenient when this is the only rental we stayed in during four week road trip that didn't include them. They are supposedly available for an additional fee but housekeeper never responded to request.

Understand about your concern with linens, but custom in our area is for folks to bring their own. I provided information on a number of options for renting linens; there are many companies in the area that provide that service.
The property was extremely clean. Easy access to the public beach which was also clean! The cottage was well stocked. Loved that we could bring our dog! Not far from stores on S. Croatian Highway. And there is an ice cream store/restaurant just a few houses down—Snow Birds — great place for a snack or a meal without getting in the car. Shopped at Walmart. They had EVERYTHING we needed.
Suggestions for the owner: Keurig coffee maker, new mattress/bed—the mattress was uncomfortable and the bed creaky, set of sharp knives is needed, the blinds in the bedroom—some are broken and don’t offer much privacy. Some light blocking privacy blinds would be great!

We regularly change out our mattresses about every 5 years (unlike a lot of OBX owners). This one is due for a new one this winter during our maintenance months. On the blinds, you love that you were able to bringing your dog, well unfortunately, a LOT of dogs tear up the blinds. Just yesterday I had to change out a blind that a regular guest's dog destroyed and I only discovered it be cause I lowered the blind (they had it pulled up so I did not discover it at first). So, before I opt for more expensive black-out blinds, I will have to nix allowing pups. I also think there is a knife sharpener in the drawer. We start out the season with sharp knives, but they end up getting dull as time goes on. Finally, we had a k-cup machine in one of the cottages as a tester. It was broken within a month. If you don't know how to use them, they don't last a minute. Thanks for your feedback.
Perfect place to stay and adventure around Outer Banks
My girlfriend and I stayed at Sea spray Cottages. We had a great time, as it was perfectly located close to a lot of fun activities and a short 4 minute walk to the beach access!! Everything in the cottage was clean and as it appeared in pictures. We will definitely be coming back again!!! If you’re looking to visit and explore the outer banks this is the place!!
This time we stayed in #4. They are always clean and cozy. If you need a lot of darkness to sleep, bring a towel or something to put over the windows, the blinds aren’t blackout level and there are outside lights that your neighbor may leave on all night. 😎
Just as wonderful as last year! This property is extremely clean and convenient to the beach. This time we made sure to get a burger and milkshake from Snow Birds. Highly recommend this spot!
This cottage was perfect for us and our dogs. The place is extremely clean and as described in the booking. Unfortunately we had big storms while we there so being able to stay nice and cozy in such a comfortable space was a bonus. It’s also super close to shopping and great restaurants so we had things to do while it rained. I’d definitely stay here again - hopefully when the suns out!
Adorable cottage just right for my wife and I. Love the back sitting area, a nice respite from the wind of the beach. Short walk to beach access (one was with no stairs) close to many shops!

About the host
Hosted by John Vollino
My wife has been vacationing on the Outer Banks her entire life. She introduced me to the area when were were dating and have been vacationing there ever since. In 1991 we purchased our first cottage. In 2007 we purchased the Sea Spray Cottage Court. They were built in 1950; there are four cottages in total (3 are available for vacation rentals).
Why they chose this property
Sea Spray Cottages were slated for demolition to clear the lots for construction of 2 lager 5-bedroom cottages. My wife, Laura Lee Garrett, and I, John Vollino, purchased the lots with the requirement that the cottages remain. With preservation in mind, our intent is that we and others can enjoy a simple, yet comfortable stay at the beach in a historic property. The cottages are cool, more space then we can occupy at one time. We just love for others to enjoy what they have to offer.
What makes this property unique
There are not many cottages like Sea Spray Cottages left on the outer banks. Additionally, these cottages are well appointed, comfortable and a really cool place to spend time at the beach. Cottage #4 is really unique as it allow couples to spend time alone at the beach without a bunch of wasted space (unoccupied bedrooms).
