We built this spacious home for ourselves but do not use it year- round, which gives you an opportunity to share our dream. All furniture is from Sarchi, pottery from Guatil, and beautiful finishings of teak ceilings and use of guanacaste, cedar and other Costa Rican woods, comfortly envelopes you in the feel of this country of diversity.
Your tranquil retreat will not be shared in seclusion. Timid Howler monkeys and an abundance of birds will remind you that you share their space. The array of flowers in the gardens attract a multitude of butterflies and hummingbirds. View wildlife from the comfort of the wide, covered terrace that surrounds the house while relaxing in rocking chairs, hammocks, or at the outdoor tables.
Across the road from this property is coastal jungle, and a quiet-use canopy tour. The house has ceiling fans throughout, a septic system, and safe, drinkable cold and hot town water as well as filtered water. North American high standards of construction were used.
Two hours drive to Liberia International Airport; four hours to San Jose. City of Nicoya is a half hour drive away; with hospital, banks, supermarkets, clothing, restaurants, Friday afternoon fruit and vegetable market, etc. All paved roads to within last hundred meters to our property.

As a family of five we had a great stay at casa pastor - the location and view were amazing, we had monkeys swinging around the property! The communication with the property manager was great and the house itself is really well-equipped with everything you need.
We stayed at Casa Pastor for 4 nights and had a wonderful stay. The location is peaceful with a great view of the ocean. The house was spotless clean and had everything we needed. We would love to stay there again!
This a lovely home in a quiet neighborhood with an amazing view! The home is comfortable, clean & welcoming, Close to two beautiful beaches and some very nice restaurants, We loved sitting on the large covered porch and seeing & hearing all the birds ,butterflies & wildlife especially the troop of Howler monkeys! The owner is very easy to communicate with & wanted to make sure we had a great experience. We would stay here again!

Cindy was a treat to deal with. Very good tennants and respectful. I have no hesitation in recommending them to other renters, only I hope they choose to return to Casa Pastor.
We really appreciate the house and the mini pool. Hammock is nice to. The view is wonderful! You need a 4x4 and mosquito stuff.
Thanks to Leonie, the manager who gave us lots of information.
We visited 3 VRBOs while in Costa Rica. This was the best of the 3. Very nice accomodation; quiet, private, well appointed. Samara is a relaxing, easy going town with a fantastic beach and easy drive from Liberia. Alex and Carol were very helpful in preparing us for our trip (first time in Costa Rica), Leonie, the property manager, took care of any concerns immediatly. Wish we would have stayed longer.

Glenn Thank you for your review. You and yours are certainly welcome to return. We would offer you a 10% discount. Alex
The pictures don’t do this home justice. It’s absolutely beautiful, unique, and comfortable. The view is amazing. The living area is perfect to sit at home and enjoy drinks on the nights when you want to stay home, but you’re just a short drive from Sámara when you want to go out. The neighborhood is quiet and felt safe. And you’ll definitely see and hear wildlife, particularly howler monkeys. Great communication from the property manager.
We stayed for 10 days in early November. Was very rainy but we enjoyed being on top of hill with nice view! Location is very good, close to grocery stores and beaches. We had a 4x4 rental vehicle and that is necessary to stay here! House is nice size we very much enjoyed our stay!
The bedrooms are nice but all the open to the outside so we ended up sleeping with our kids as that felt most secure! If travelling with grandparents this would be a great setup!
Would absolutely recommend this spot and would stay here again!

Cons
Older house
Small cool down pool but it did serve it's purpose!
Roof is loud with heavy rain. There was exceptional hard rain during our stay! Maybe every roof is the same in Costa Rica....
Was our first time to Costa Rica. Thoroughly enjoyed the area. We enjoyed waterfalls, hiking, surfing, ziplineing, playing in waves and the beach!
Charming, peaceful, comfortable, gorgeous view, away from the bustle
This property was greatly enjoyed. It was charmingly constructed and boasts a central courtyard that the bedrooms and main living spaces are built around. A cold plunge pool is a great way to cool off and enjoy the view. The lovely verandas allow for beautiful views of the bay below and the forest around the house has a collection of monkeys, birds, lizards and interesting insects. The house is mostly secluded and has a couple of neighbouring houses that can be seen and heard, but did not bother us at all. The place is about a 10 min drive from Sámara on a narrow gravel road that has some rutted sections (we had a 4x4) and there are no amenities within walking distance. The house has the mecessary basics for the kitchen. Body boards, beach chairs and towels were available which was appreciated. Our overall perspective was that the house design and location were charming, but the house desperately needs an update and a thorough organizing and cleaning. The mattresses were old and uncomfortable; the window screens were moldy and full of little holes; the kitchen cupboards were disorganized, musty, and a bit dirty; some of the doors didn't close well; and the laundry area was so crowded and full of everything from a quad to an old fridge. If these types of details don't worry you, this place is fantastic. The property manager was wonderful. She met us when we arrived and communicated well throughout our stay and was eager to offer help or advice.

Thank you for your four star rating. We live in the house part of the year ourselves so storage in the utility room happens and is part of our sharing our house with you. The master bedroom mattress is new. The screens have holes from the Kiskadee birds, the screens are replaced annually but the birds are still there, part of life in the tropics. We thank you for your advice on cupboard we will look into that. Given the pricing, the house is excellent value.

Clean, Amazing Views
The house was very clean - even more so after the gardener arrived. I believe we may have been the first guests for the dry season. We did not find the kitchen well stocked. Many of the pots and pans were not in a safe condition to use. That is to say the non-stick coating was badly peeling. The ingestion of such coating has been linked to increased risk for cancer. The knives were in bad condition and very dull. The kitchen lacked basic necessities such as salt and pepper. We called the manager and she told us the house did not provide salt or pepper. So we purchased these and left them behind for the next guests.
The towels and linens could use updating. I almost cried the first night because the mattress was poor, but we got used to it. I don't have many opportunities to travel abroad and I really try to make the most of my limited vacation time. I was hoping the house had been up to higher standard. The views are beautiful, but it is quite basic. I thought I would write this review so future renters will have the right expectations.
We did love the compost bin in the kitchen. Of course the splash pool is lovely. The backyard is private but there are neighbours. This was another disappointment because I did not expect any neighbours and thought we would enjoy total seclusion. Maybe I misread the website, but that was what I was led to believe. Occassionally we heard the neighbours fighting/drama and many times we could hear them operating power tools, doing construction, or burning yard waste. It really wasn't the natural paradise we were looking for.
Finally, a few of the fans were busted or would swing wildly when operated. This meant we could not enjoy the porches at night because we could not blow the mosquitoes away. In general, we found the house to fall short.

For those of you that follow reviews you will note that there are always people who are never happy. This seems to be the case here
Here are the issues answered: First mentioned problem – there was no salt and pepper. While we leave consumables for renters as do most renters as we don’t stock them. I presume other tenants used them all -the Teflon on the pots are separating – why not use our supplied stainless steel ones? The bed was not comfortable – we use the bed ourselves it is fine; no other tenant has ever mentioned it. Things need updating etc.etc. what can we say everything is fine. The neighbours fight. The neighbour to the west was not there. On the east you cannot even see them because of the forest. We never hear them. We value our privacy greatly.
The fans are working perfectly fine we sit out at night ourselves with them on and there are no mosquitos in December as it is the dry season.
The view wasn’t to her liking - it is a view of two of the best beaches in North America and that is not just me saying that it is National Geographic
This is our retirement home so we are always trying to make in better both for tenants and ourselves. We enjoy sharing this opportunity with others.

We loved this property. It was really well equipped and the layout was fantastic for two seniors, two grown adults and two children (5&7) The bedrooms are away from the living room, kitchen and dining room. The bathrooms are great and the whole house and yard are very secure. The sheltered veranda is extensive so you can move about and be outside even if it is raining. It has a lovely little pool that the children enjoyed. Beautiful outdoor rocking chairs. The kitchen is well equipped and the house was clean and ready for us.
Thankfully there is a property manager who took us to this beautiful house because it would have been quite difficult to find on our own. The road up to the house is quite rough but did not seem to bother a taxi or a tour bus that we used.
We really loved this property and it made us really enjoy our time in Samara.
Casa Pastor is located on a beautiful hilltop over looking Playa Samara beaches. Quiet and secluded yet very close to town it was the perfect get away. Friendly neighbors and lots of birds and howler monkeys. Two kids love the dipping pool every day before and after the beach. Alex was very responsive whenever we had a question or a concern.
If we ever return to Samara we would love to stay here again.
Das Haus ist einfach toll. Sehr ansprechende Architektur.

Christmas in Samara
This is a lovely property, with a fantastic view! My husband and I stayed her with our 2 teenage kids (16,13) 12/21-12/24/17. It is well equipped for cooking. The rooms are spacious and everything is open air. This is a tropical climate and there are alot of bugs/insects/ants and giant beetles. If this sort of thing bothers you, you should stay at a resort. The property is a ways out of town. We did not have a rental car and when I had queried Alex re: transportation, they said it was a 20 min walk to beach. It is actually quite far to town, so a car is MANDATORY if you want to stay here. There is a National Car rental in Samara. We ended up renting 2 Quads (ATV's) which also worked great but not ideal for groceries, etc. There is a pristine beach if you go south to Carillo (instead of north to Samara). There are towels and beach chairs at the house but, again, you would need a car to transport. One of the cool things about this property is it's location up on the hill. It lends a sort of rural, untamed feel to it. You hear howler monkeys in the morning, there are stray horses wandering around. Large iguanas sun on the roof, clacking there nails on the ceramic tiles. You mustn't leave food out, or you will have unwanted guests. However, nothing beats coffee on the veranda in the sunshine looking at that view! Note to Alex: the AC unit in the middle bedroom leaks and we had to put a bucket under it, as there was a giant pool of water in the am. Also, check out was a little unclear. We were supposed to check out at 11 am and had arranged for our driver to pick us up at that time. However the cleaning crew showed up at 8:30 am and wanted to start cleaning while we were still there, needing to shower and pack. If this is a normal occurrence, it is tacky and rude. However, it was Christmas eve and we assumed they wanted to get their work done to be home with family. Also, it was very confusing trying to get keys to Melissa. She told me she would meet us on the road at 11 am but she didn't show and we had to drive into town to drop keys off. In future, just have a plan when checking in how to get keys to her when you leave. I would definitely recommend staying at this property.

Amazing view!
Wow, what a place to spend a week and what a view to wake up to each day! This was our second stay at Casa Pastor and this time we brought our three teens along. The home is comfortable, clean & spacious. We enjoyed the covered porch and cool pool every afternoon and took turns relaxing in the hammock! The mangoes on the mango tree were ripe so we made mango pancakes one morning! Melissa, the property manager, made sure we had everything we needed. We played at the beach each morning (surfing, boogie boarding, beach volleyball) and relaxed at the house in the afternoons before we went back to the beach for more activities like kayaking, snorkeling, etc. For those who enjoy a blend of relaxation & adventure in a beautiful place that is off the beaten path, Casa Pastor in Samara is for you! Alex & Carol, our family thanks you for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home! Hope we can return someday! Stacia

Perfection!!
I hate to review Casa Pastor since it is a gem that we want to keep to ourselves. From the moment we arrived, we thought we were in paradise. The house is beautiful, the layout was open and airy and allowed us to enjoy the beautiful view. We had two college age kids and on one or two days, they were content to just hang at Casa Pastor. We loved it's location up the hill and the secluded woods behind it. We loved the monkeys, birds and lizards. Additionally, both the gardener and housekeeper were gracious and helpful. Samara is, of course, wonderful as well. This is not for people who want an American resort...it is more genuine than that! Enjoy!

Great place to relax and enjoy Costa Rica beach
My 23 year old son and I wanted to have an exotic adventure together and we are so glad we found Casa Pastor! It was even more beautiful than the pictures, clean, open and gorgeous. Since it was only my son and I we only used 2 of the 3 bedrooms, but it would easily handle much more. Everything we needed in the kitchen, boogie boards, umbrella (we arrived at the start of the rainy season, but it was gorgeous in the mornings and most afternoons). Alex and Carol, thank you for sharing your paradise with us, I will be back with my wife next time (and maybe some of our other children). David, your care as the property manager was tremendous, helpful, friendly and always on-time. Thank you for helping us by phone when we got flat tire on the way to Miss Sky zipline.

I would have stayed there the whole summer
This house is very convenient and offers a fabulous view on the Samara bay.
It is at exactly 3 minutes by car from the beach. The rooms are very nice and the kitchen very convenient. The kids used the pool a lot. The owner kept things simple and made the transaction easy.
The manager/agent is very helpful.
I would have stayed there the whole summer. Highly recommended.
