About this property
Perfect for Two! A little hideaway in the woods. Tiny House / Romantic Getaway
'The cutest getaway cottage ever' That's what Better Homes and Gardens magazine called this little retreat when it was featured a few years back.
We call it the the perfect place for TWO Lovers, TWO Friends, Couples, Sisters, Brothers... Rediscover the bond that brought you close in the first place, connect like you've always wanted to, gain a new perspective with that special person in your life. Celebrate? Escape? No matter where you are in life, some alone-time away can make all the difference in the world. Intrigued? read on...
TWO is located on a 1/2-acre wooded property, on the northern end of Harbor Country in the town of Sawyer. The Warren Dunes 1900 acres is right next door, and the beach is about a four block walk. A produce market and butcher shop are on each corner, so fresh provisions are never far away. Oh, and the incredible sunsets... It might just be the best memory of your stay!
TWO is a special little place. It has a soulful feeling. Maybe it's the 100 year old trees surrounding the house, perhaps it's the original pine floors and architectural details that date back to the 1920's. Charm yes, but this is not your typical 'cottage.' The house had a complete architect-designed remodel in 1997 and has been kept true to its principles ever since. Private hot tub, screened porch, it's all here for you to enjoy. The moment you walk through the door, you'll be reminded of what a great little hideaway you have found!
NOTE: the stairs up to the lofted bedroom are steep and very narrow. It's a historic property and do not hide this fact. If you have mobility issues, take a look at the photograph provided and make sure you can access the loft.
History Known as 'LePin Cottage' (Pine Cottage) this humble abode was built in the 1920's and was used as a grape pickers' shack for the seasonal harvest. The home had no running water or electricity, and occupants were resolved to use the (still on property) outhouse when nature called. As the area developed and the vineyards moved inland, the house was abandoned and remained an empty shell for many years. In 1995 the house was purchased by an architect and his wife, and they set out to make the 'Cottage in the Pines' their family retreat. The renovation was nothing short of amazing. The house was put up on stilts and a new foundation was installed. The entire roof and joists were removed to make way for the new second floor, and an accompanying shed was located in nearby Indiana and transported to the property. The original windows and pine floors were saved, as was the footprint of the structure. The results were stunning. So much so that the home caught the attention of Better Homes and Gardens magazine, which paid homage to the renovation with a six page feature in the July of 1998 issue. Today the story continues. Each and every weekend, new memories and stories are created, as couples, and friends relax and enjoy this special place.
Area Your heart will long for Harbor Country once you discover all her beauty. Breathtaking sunsets, pristine beaches, outstanding restaurants, art galleries, and shops. Whatever your passion, you’re sure to find refuge from the day-to-day grind. Each of the towns of Harbor Country feature unique qualities that create a carefree, relaxed lifestyle with a sophistication that cultivates culture and small town charm.

Such a relaxing stay! Check in and out was so easy! We loved that you could walk to the beach and to the beach bucket for ice cream and snacks! The hot tub was so nice for winding down at night after our beach day!
This was my second stay and it definitely will not be my last! This is such a perfect little hidden gem getaway spot in Sawyer. So close to the beach, great restaurants and the local wineries. But the house and property are just perfect to relax and unwind at as well. Thanks so much for an incredible stay and already looking forward to my next visit!
We had a great stay at this tiny house. The cottage was clean, well-equipped, and very comfortable for two. The location is peaceful and private but still close to the beach and local shops. The screened porch and hot tub were perfect after a day out. Check-in was easy, and the hosts were responsive. Would definitely stay here again.
Check in and out went smooth. Location to Warren Dunes was great! This was perfect getaway for two. Description of the home was accurate. No issues during our stay.
The cottage was very cute, well kept, and clean. The walk to the beach was longer than expected and the outside needs some upkeep but overall a great stay.
I have stayed at this property many times, and love it so much that, four years after my initial stay, I am reviewing it again. This cottage is a true sanctuary. It’s beautiful and peaceful. I have come here over the years, just myself, no spouse or friends. I’ve stayed here when life was wonderful, and stayed here when life was falling apart. In both times, the peace, nature, and time to slow down and feel a sense of peace and thankfulness has been a healing and deeply restorative time. The property is beautiful. I love being able to enjoy the hot tub and watch birds and trees swaying. The screened in porch has reading lamps, where I’ve come to love reading, crocheting, and writing when I’m there. In colder months, the fire stove smells glorious and creates warmth and coziness. Eileen and the folks who attends to the cottage do so beautifully. Kindling is set up in the fire stove for you when you arrive, there is a basket of treats waiting, basics like olive oil, salt and the like. A great kitchen. The stairs are steep, so do keep that in mind, but the sofa downstairs does pull out, making it more accessible. Extra toothbrushes/soap/etc are available if you forget something. Wireless, sunscreen, etc. are there. Beach time is super easy to get here, as are lots of fun spots for a meal, a little shopping, etc. Three Oaks is a good place to stop. Throw comfy clothes and swimsuit into a bag, bring easy snacks, and expect a wonderful stay - believe me, you’ll get it.
TWO was just as advertised. Everything was perfect. We golfed daily and came back to the cabin for hot tub, campfire and just relaxing at a fine cabin in the woods. We grilled several times on the best grill we have ever used. Would go back in a heartbeat and probably will. The owners treated us very good.
We love to travel; been all over the country. We consider ourselves to have a keen sense of what works. Also we often travel with our dog. While we have been to many places, we always love to come back to this this little cottage. It is a calming sanctuary, and we're sure after a stay here you will feel the same way.
Why they chose this property
Sawyer is one of those great destinations, that once you find it, you hope not too many others follow suit. The restaurants, shops, beaches, culture and all around vibe are unmatched. This little place in the woods has been described as being a storybook cottage, and we couldn't agree more. It oozes with cuteness and is the ultimate escape from the everyday.
What makes this property unique
The house is super clean and updated, not your typical musty cottage. The place is compact and efficient, but does not feel cramped. The property is a gorgeous one-acre wooded, property that is a very short walk to the Warren Dunes. It is the real deal when it comes to the Michigan cottage experience. The house has an antique wood burning stove that is perfect on those cool and winter evenings. To sum it up, the cottage is romantic, the perfect place for two! A great little hideaway!
