About this property
Beautiful Cottage Right on the Seafront in the Burren
Heron Cottage
Heron Cottage is a five star property situated on a very private secluded and tranquil peninsula that extends into Galway Bay but at the same time is located just minutes from the local pub, award winning seafood restaurant, Russell art gallery and pottery shop.
In the local pub which is only minutes away you can enjoy a pint in the company of the locals and be assured of a very warm welcome while enjoying the traditional music session. Around the corner at the pier you can buy the latest catch of the day and various shellfish from Martina the local fisherman’s wife to take back to Heron Cottage for your lunch or evening meal.
It is situated midway (10 minutes) between the beautiful coastal villages of Kinvarra in Co Galway and Ballyvaughan in Co Clare.
The Surrounding Area
It is on the most distinctive landscape in Europe and also hosts the most dramatic coastal scenery in the west of Ireland.
Located on the flaggy shore made famous by Seamus Heaney poem ‘Postscript’. The area is a walkers paradise with walks and cycle routes to cater for the casual to the more experienced, all of which loop back to Heron Cottage.
A ramble or cycle here not only encompasses the splendour of the mountains of Abbey Hill and Gleninagh but also gives people the chance to touch the waters of Galway Bay. While on the Flaggy Shore you will come across a small sandy beach suitable for swimming, the Martello tower and Lough Murree a freshwater lake which is home to a vast amount of bird life ranging from swans, ducks, geese and other migratory birds where you will have the opportunity to share in the sounds of the singing seagulls, cries of the curlew and the colourful puffins at the shores edge, which is separated from the sea only by the width of the flaggy shore and is a photographers paradise.
Also there is a huge concentration of archaeological monuments such as Corcomroe Abbey, Poulnabrone Dolmen and Megalitic Tombs showing the vast memorial to the bygone cultures.
It is ideal for exploring the nearby attractions such as the Burren National Park, Cliffs of Moher, Aran Islands, Allwee Caves, Bunratty Castle and Folk Park and surrounding counties.
Also it is an ideal base for the more enthusiastic to get involved in Sailing, Surfing, Scuba Diving, Wind Surfing, Kayaking, Orienteering and Caving along with Botany, Geology , Archaeology and Genealogy all of which are in close proximity to Heron Cottage.
Heron cottage is ideally serviced by Shannon International Airport which is just an hour away and Dublin and Knock Airports which are less than 2 hours away
Heron Cottage is a bright airy spacious 3000 square foot cottage and can accommodate up to 7 people.
On the ground floor there is a modern fully equipped kitchen with rangemaster gas cooker with double oven and an American style fridge freezer ,there is also a large spacious dining area providing spectacular sea views also there is a spacious sitting room with a large open stone fire place , 52’’ plasma TV, DVD player and music centre with cd’s to cater for all tastes, beyond the sitting room there is a sunlit conservatory with honesty bar and finally there is a master bathroom with Sauna, Power Rain Shower and Sunken Tub.
