We had the very best time on our trip and Mary and her property were a huge part of this. The property is beautiful and Mary is just the sweetest host ever. She had lots of books and pamphlets of things to do around the island and communicated with us regularly and easily. We loved being visited by the cats everyday and having space to be on our own without a bunch of other travelers around. The property is located very central to everything with only about a 20-30 min drive. We will definitely be looking to stay there again when we return to the Big Island.
Mary was the perfect host! She offered great advice on the best places to visit. Mary's Jade Ohana property was absolutely perfect and exactly what we were looking for this time visiting the Big Island. Close to so many things, yet secluded and peacefully, the perfect getaway! The property was clean, well maintained and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay.

Thank you for your lovely review and being delightful guests. Hope to have you again.
The place was cozy and spacious. Very clean. Midsize car or smaller is best for parking. The host was very accommodating and responded very quickly if you had any questions. Convenient location to get to most places.
Mary’s lanai was wonderful, clean, private and in an incredible spot. We felt like we were in the middle of a tropical forest. Mary was very helpful with tips about the area and even left us some Hawaiian fruit to enjoy. Recommend without hesitation.

Thank you for your lovely review. You are a delightful couple and I hope you will return.
We had a lovely stay at the private Lanai. The property was beautiful, felt like we were staying in the middle of jungle. A very relaxing place to stay. We were welcomed to the property first thing in the morning by a handsome cat named Lovebug. He was very sweet and cuddly and made us feel at home. Mary was an amazing host, she gave us lots of information about the area with things to do and see. The area is beautiful and we really enjoyed walking along the volcanic rock on the ocean side not far from the property. It’s not often we find great peace in a home away from home but we loved our stay in this very special place. My only regret is we should have stayed longer!

Mary is the perfect host and offers great advice on where to go and what to visit. She spoiled us with fresh local fruit and was always available. Mary also has 3 cats that are so cute and loveable but no worries, they stay outside.

Liked: Cleanliness
Basement apartment was musty and damp. Had to coordinate with the host to do a meet and greet before getting access to the unit. She has 3 cats that roam the property outside, one was not the cleanest. Location was not as accessible as we anticipated. Would not stay there again.

Shocked by this review. When Eric and partner arrived I noticed that they seemed hostile and I assumed they were having problems and quickly quit my usual greeting. Evidently they thought my meeting and greeting them upon their arrival was an imposition.
Many people tell me they enjoy my cats. One especially is friendly and affectionate and I have been told that was the best experience they ever had with a cat. One couple even returned following year saying they wanted to again be with cat Love Bug.
The apartment is not in basement or how they described. If you want an apartment with fancy hotel furnishings this is not place for you. If you would like to be surrounded by flowers and trees and friendly cats hostess, then come visit.
Mary’s place was the perfect home base for my Big Island adventure. The space was clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully prepared, with everything I needed to feel at home. The furnished kitchen was wonderful, and thoughtful extras like the camp chairs made exploring the island easier and more enjoyable. What truly made this stay special was Mary herself. She was an exceptional host who went above and beyond to help me have a wonderful experience. She shared recommendations, provided brochures and local information, and clearly put a lot of care into making sure guests felt welcomed and prepared to explore. The location was one of my favorite parts of the stay. It is removed from the busyness of main Hilo, giving you the opportunity to experience the quieter, more natural side of the island, while still being very convenient. You trade the sound of traffic for the nighttime chorus of coqui frogs. The zoo and several beaches, including my favorite: Onekahakaha Beach Park, are within an easy 30mon drive, and shopping, restaurants, and other necessities in Hilo are still easily accessible.I loved the balance this location provided — a peaceful retreat surrounded by nature while still being a great base for exploring the Hilo side of the island. Mary’s thoughtfulness, local knowledge, and genuine care made this a memorable part of my Hawaii experience. I would happily recommend her place to anyone looking for a comfortable stay and a host who truly cares about her guests.

We loved our little jungle paradise. Close to so many things, yet far from the noise of civilization. The covered lanai surrounded by trees and flowers was the perfect getaway. An easy drive to Hilo, Volcano and Pahoa. We even drove to Waimea one day. Mary is a lovely and helpful hostess. We hope we have the opportunity to come here again.

Aloha,

This was such a lovely and quiet little spot. Mary is right upstairs, and very nice. I absolutely LOVED having the kitties around. (Lovebug more than lived up to his name! What a total sweetie pie). While it was a bit challenging for me to get in and out of the driveway, I didn’t say anything until checkout time. When I mentioned it, Mary she said that she usually has some helpful tips. So just let her know if you have any issues and she’ll be able to help you out! I grew up on the Big Island, so it was a nice little spot that felt like home at a time when I really needed it
Really great place to stay if you like being surrounded by nature and cute cats. Great night skies and there's some good hikes nearby. Mary has a very nice garden and is very personable!
The location is on the wet side of the island and the property feels like surrounded by rainforest. We really enjoyed the peaceful nights and waking up to the noise of the birds. Parking could be a challenge for a bigger size vehicle like a Suburban. The water supply comes from the cistern in the backyard and the pump is pretty loud when it turns on. The ocean is exactly 2 miles away. The nearest restaurant is 4 miles away.
The place was absolutely wonderful—spotlessly clean and equipped with all the amenities you could want for a cozy stay. The owner went above and beyond, always warm and welcoming, and even offered fresh fruits that added a lovely touch. It truly felt like a home away from home!

Darlene and Elroy are wonderful guests, so considerate, enjoyable, and interesting. They were here over a month and Darlene kept Jade Ohana apartment very clean and neat. In my years of having a vacation rental she wins the title of "best guests ever" for leaving it perfectly clean and ready for next guests. I highly recommend.
Highly recommend staying here with Mary! She welcomed us with fresh fruit from her yard and was very accommodating. The full kitchen was a plus and the entire rental felt very private and unique!
I enjoyed my stay. Thank you Mary for accommodating for me and making sure I have a nice stay
