Come make Ka Hale Malie (the peaceful house) your own tropical cottage! Located 500 Ft from the ocean cliffs as the crow flies but not on the ocean. It is located in Hawaiian Paradise Park in Keaau, HI which is centrally located to visit Volcano, Pahoa, and the new black sand beaches of lower Puna (Pohoiki).
The little cottage has one bedroom with a queen bed that has sliding doors to the back lanai (porch) for you to enjoy your coffee or your candlelight dinner. A bathroom with a (purified) rainwater shower. A fully outfitted kitchen with gas stove, full refrigerator, microwave, countertop convection oven/toaster, coffeemaker, blender, new PFAS-free "green" pots and pans and a variety of items for cooking. The attached living room has a vintage rattan couch and chair, a TV, Roku streaming device, a DVD player, a library of over 50 DVDs (island themed!), and WIFI.
The house also has a front lanai (porch) with a table and chairs and a back lanai with an outdoor rattan couch, a table and chairs for dining, 2 bar stools and some "party lights" for nighttime ambiance. The best hang out spot may be the covered carport which has been transformed into an outdoor rec room/tiki bar complete with tables and chairs, a BBQ with charcoal and a charcoal starter (uses newspaper, not lighter fluid, and gets coals going fast), and coolers you may use during your stay.
The cottage is the only property on the 1/4 acre lot to give you privacy. Most days, and especially eves you can hear the crash of the waves on the cliffs, less than 500' away. Within a 5-10 minute walk is the beautiful coastline area where you can take a few chairs (I provide the portable ones in the bag-located under the tiki bar), a few beverages and watch the sky and the ocean. During the humpback whale season you can see and hear whales. Rainbows over the ocean are a common event!
Mahalo (thank you) for considering Ka Hale Malie and should you decide to come the cottage will welcome you!
There are also a few masks, snorkels and fins; beach towels, paddle ball, frisbee, etc. for your use during your stay. If you want an island tour of any size/duration, I can recommend a great tour guide!

It is not often that a place goes beyond our expectations, but this place did. The location is in a quiet neighborhood, and we could often hear the ocean just a street away. We spent much of our time there on the back lanai. The clothesline under the awning allowed clothes to stay dry even when it rained. Parking was also great. The place is very private, clean, and safe and we highly recommend it.

Thank you so much! I am so happy when guests enjoy their time at my little sanctuary.
The host was very responsive and the house was perfect for the two of us. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes. Plenty of extra blankets and pillows. And the outdoor space was downright dreamy. Sat on the lanai while it was raining and stayed dry. Location was great for short walks to the cliffs or to the trailhead of a more substantial hike. And yes. You can hear the ocean!

Thank you so much for choosing my place. I hope you enjoyed yourselves. Let me know if there is anything I can do to improve things ( and your rating). Mahalo 🥰
we had a 5 day great stay April 8th to April 13. Had everything we needed. Went to the local grocery store and bought the food we needed. The outside was beautiful. Had a bar b que with our friends who live in the area. Thanks Kelly
I had the most wonderful stay in this beautiful cottage. The kitchen was amazingly equipped and the bed was incredibly comfy! The back lanai was a place I never wanted to leave and the sweet area next to cottage was a perfect place to hang with my son and family when they came over to visit me. A very sweet neighborhood and I loved falling to sleep hearing the deep ocean roar and the incredible symphony of koki frogs and crickets. I cannot wait to return soon!

We enjoyed the privacy and space. Had everything we needed! Close drive to a lot of things to do. The Kuamana Lava Tube and Black Sand beaches were our favorite stops.

Private, relaxing, one block from the ocean! We would stay here again on our next visit.
The house was exactly as expected. Everything was clean, comfortable and well stocked. The location was private and quiet yet easy to find and close to town. A wonderful neighborhood for walking and whale watching. We especially enjoyed the back lanai.

Thanks so much Janice. I'm really glad you enjoyed your stay. A hui hou! (Til we meet again). I look forward to your return!
We really enjoyed our two-week stay at the cottage. It had a little of everything we needed for a pleasant stay. The back lanai was especially nice. The geckos would visit us every time we ate on the back lanai. And you could hear the ocean from time to time. Lots of ocean cliffs nearby to walk to and explore. The only recommendation we have is to fix/replace the microwave above the stove, although Kelly had a backup microwave available. Everything to see on the Hilo side of the island was within a 90-minute drive from the cottage. We would definitely rebook the cottage if we return to Hawaii.

Thanks so much David. I'm glad you all enjoyed your stay and hope to see you in the future. I do plan to replace the microwave as you suggested.
Aloha and Mahalo, Kelly
This is a great cottage. Small but very well equipped. Not a far walk to the cliffs where we saw 10 or so turtles swimming below. The other direction is a 3 mile hike to a secluded beach. Would highly recommend.

great, clean well decorated little place
The place was small, but great for 2 or 3 people. The outside place to eat was very helpful and enjoyable. The kitchen had everything we needed and we really enjoyed our time. A little out of the way, but not too bad. Very quiet and pretty.
This little cottage was exactly what we needed for close proximity to family. Owner was easily contacted and very responsive. The yard with birds was enchanting.

I love the Big Island and especially all its magical places and wonderful culture and people. There is nothing like going for a snorkel in the turquoise waters of the tide pools, followed by wine tasting in the cool air of Volcano, followed by watching molten lava bubbling and glowing in the Halema`uma`u Crater in Hawaii Volcanoes National park! Not that I do that every day!
Why they chose this property
Location, location, location, and it is adorable. Centrally located between Hilo, Volcano and lower Puna. The neighborhood is perfect for an early morning walk to the ocean cliffs to watch the sunrise or a sunset walk to enjoy the end of the day sky! Please keep in mind, Hawaii is a tropical island and we have humidity, geckos, cockroaches and typically they don't come into the house but it is a possibility. Keep this in mind, mahalo!
What makes this property unique
Located between Hilo and Pahoa with easy access to the best of the East side of the Big Island. Plus the cottage is small yet complete. The ocean waves can often be heard from the house and the neighborhood is wonderful for a walk to the ocean cliffs!
