Upon arrival, my partner and I shed the stress of the week when we were welcomed by the quiet calm of the home's lush grounds. Carlos' place is warm and spacious with everything we needed to unwind for a long weekend, including a fully equipped open kitchen, a sauna and rain shower for an at-home spa experience, comfortable living areas and bedrooms with large windows and gorgeous views of the self-seeded fields beyond. Mornings were spent walking through its winding paths and watching birds and butterflies amongst the pollinator plants. During the day, we ventured to nearby trails within Minnewaska State Park to hike through ice caves, to the top of waterfalls, and up to Lake Awosting for a dip in the serene sky lake. Carlos shared clear instructions for our stay and was very responsive when we had questions. His home's passive house design is modern and very well executed, offering tranquility and connection to nature while being close to restaurants, farm stands, antique warehouses, and many outdoor activities - a rare find for upstate rental listings. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Carlos' home and look forward to returning on our next trip upstate!

Interesting house lacking basic amenities
We rented the house for a family get together. That means cooking with family and enjoying basic amenities. That being said our host was exceptionally nice, however the house was lacking in all basics we expected to find in an expensive VRBO rental.
The house is being built by an architect and in my opinion is barely 60%finished and not ready for prime time. Many areas showed unfinished construction and loose plywood ledges. The private kitchen is barley there. We found out that the oven was not working the morning of our arrival. The host did refund us a modest compensation and offered for us to find another rental but alas we were not able to do so last minute.
The appliances that were present seemed to be left over and old from perhaps the owners’ primary resident. The freezer was not working but the owners did have a deep freeze in another room. The coffee pot expected always in an ArbNb was a one- to Two cup Mr Coffee drip machine. The outdoor grill was difficult to use, rusty and very old. The rooms while comfortable were bare except for a bed and small night tables. Our bedroom did not have a door. While there were no window treatments the large windows did offer spectacular views- yes this was a highlight. We have friends in the neighborhood who also Arbnb their homes with much more hospitality towards their renters.. This could be a good rental in the future if many area of the house were upgraded.
