Gorgeous

This place was amazing very private great location close to everything but isolated at the same time which I loved. The scenery and everything as well were amazing it was so beautiful we enjoyed the beach area they had near the lake that we could hang out at and eat as well with the picnic tables it had.

Note to future renters: this is a duplex with a shared wall & a semi-private porch with a partial wall down the middle. When we voiced dissappointment due to the listing describing a private cabin, the hosts simply expressed that they were “sorry this is disappointing for you” & continued to assert that it was a private cabin. While it may seem like semantics to them, it makes a difference when traveling with dogs who may bark at people you can hear & see on the other side-or young kids who are early risers & arent the best at being quiet. There is no mention of sharing a wall, porch, or yard. The pictures included don’t show the half wall of the porch, so I will include that. They have now at least added “it shares a roof” after our stay. Also of note, the wifi router is located on the other side of the duplex so if people are also staying there, you will be competing for the same wifi signal with your devices & all 3 tvs in the unit. We were told that there was a spectrum issue due to storms when we asked about slow wifi & tvs constantly buffering; however we had the same issue the prior night with clear skies. We’ve never given a 1 star review, & despite the lack of privacy & inconsistent wifi- which ultimately were why we decided to leave a day early- we felt it necessary due to the misleading listing & then the dismissive communication we received after voicing concerns. To their credit, they did eventually offer a partial refund but never took any accountability.

We’re very sorry this stay did not meet your expectations. Guest satisfaction is extremely important to us, and in more than five years of welcoming guests, we have been fortunate to receive overwhelmingly positive feedback and many repeat visitors. We appreciate your feedback regarding the adjoining cabin. While each cabin is a separate, private accommodation with its own entrance, living spaces and amenities, we recognize that the shared-wall configuration was not described clearly enough in our listing at the time of your stay. We have since revised the description for future guests. We were also sorry about the WiFi difficulties during your visit. Contrary to your review, when you contacted us with your concern, we immediately reached out to Spectrum and relayed the information they provided regarding severe storm-related service problems in the area. When we later learned from a neighbor that you had 2 dogs that you failed to report when booking the reservation, we offered to waive the pet fee for the inconvenience the WiFi issues caused, even though the problem was out of our control. We remained responsive throughout your stay and ultimately offered a partial refund as a gesture of goodwill. We are especially saddened that our communication was perceived as dismissive. And to state that we took “no accountability” does not reflect the communication or efforts we made throughout your stay. Our replies were quick, thorough, and thoughtful. While your experience did not mirror the many positive stays our guests have enjoyed over the years, we appreciate the opportunity to clarify the circumstances.

Cute home

Extremely clean and everything up to date. Short 5 minute walk to the private beach/marina. Check-in couldn’t have been easier and I appreciated not having too many chores at checkout.

Great host and enjoyable stay

The house was great and in a great location with Chimney Rock and Lake Lure not too far away. There was lots to do! Paul was a great host and responded quickly to my texts. Overall everything was great and we had an enjoyable time. The only disappointment we had were that the amenities were not as we hoped. The beach and gym are not your typical beach and gym.

Vacation With In a Vacation

Lake Lure is awesome in and of itself. Our stay here could have been a vacation all by itself. The drive up the mountain ....spectacular. The view within the property, very nice. The space to hike, the waterfall, and the lake view....relaxing. The front porch....big and spacious. The interior of the property....clean, spacious, plenty of storage for clothes, functional, and a great nights sleep. You would not have to leave the property, to have a great vacation.

About the host

Hosted by Paul and Teri Hamel

Host profile image
Paul and Teri call Orlando, FL home, although, Lake Lure is our "home-away-from-home".
Paul retired early after serving Orange County as a Firefighter for over 32 1/2 years and Teri retired from the Walt Disney Company in early 2024 after 46 1/2 years of service. We both loved our careers, but have adjusted to retirement beautifully!
We love the great outdoors, especially hiking, skiing (water and snow), paddle boarding, boating, and even sitting on the porch swing watching the birds and bees flutter around.

Why they chose this property

We have been visiting Lake Lure Village Resort regularly since 1988, the year we married. We fell in love with the area. After all these years, the opportunity to own our “little piece of Heaven in the Mountains” presented itself in July 2021. The ability to work remotely with my job at Disney and Paul’s retirement from the fire service were contributing factors.
When here, we enjoy the amenities of this community & breathing fresh mountain air!
