Great location right on Lake Michigan. So unusual to find something this private right on the lake, the beach was beautiful. Sommerset Lake House was super clean and well equipped and Mark was great to work with--a really great host.

An Exceptional Rental
Our family enjoyed one of our best vacations ever while staying at this property. The home is absolutely beautiful and the location provides serenity and the beauty of Northern Michigan. Our family loved the beach area, access to the state park next door, and the many golf courses in the area.
Charming cabin in the trees on the dunes. This is exactly what we hope for when we rent a vacation property. We felt like we were at home, only on the Lake Michigan shoreline. We couldn't ask for much more.
Beautiful cottage steps away from Lake Michigan was just what we were looking for. Quiet, sandy beach. Enjoyed the home’s amenities like the hammock, the grill out on the deck, and the camp fire on the beach. Enjoyed making s’mores and looking at the stars. Great place to enjoy Northern Michigan.

Sommerset was a perfect place for our family to gather for walks along the beach, beautiful sunsets and hiking through Wilderness S. P. Lots of time for games and meals together. Mark was very thorough with both communication and the condition of the property. We would certainly consider another trip.

Fantastic place! First time staying in Cross Village. The owner Mark was easy to talk with, answered any and all questions, made check-in extremely easy!
The cabin is awesome, has the “up north” feel. Well stocked with everything you could need. You’re at the southern end of Wilderness State Park so it’s very peaceful and very quiet! Great time walking on the beach with the dog! Overall an awesome time!

Cozy home in a wonderful location for peace, quiet and nature
The house was clean, cozy and very comfortable for our family of 4 (and would easily and comfortably accommodate up to 6 people). The exposed wood beams and the decor gives the place a wonderful rustic lodge feeling. Even better is the location: steps away from pristine, quiet beach on Lake Michigan, which in turn is steps from the border of the Wilderness State Park, with miles of practically-empty beach and woods to wander and enjoy. The hosts are also incredibly responsive, generous and helpful. A perfect location for a quiet, peaceful and beautiful stay!

Thanks Eric, So glad everything worked out! Hope you can visit again.
This is a very nice property, well appointed. A perfect "up north" get away. Clean, well maintained and equipped. Nice deck. Right on a spectacular wide, sandy, miles long beach. Adjacent to Wilderness State Park. Very close to Legs Inn and other attractions at Cross Village and Good Hart. Convenient to Harbor Springs, The Straits, and even Petosky. Plenty of hiking nearby, especially in Nature Concervancy sites.

Great Vacation
This was our first visit to this part of Michigan. The somerset is a very nice log home on a "deserted" beach. There are homes right next to Somerset, but we only saw one person the entire time. The night sky was incredible. The water was clear, blue and calm during our stay. Somerset had plenty of room and was very comfortable. We hope to return again next year!

A.....maz......ing!!
We had such a great time at this cottage. It is adorable, clean and right on the beach with an incredible sand bar just off the shore. The lake was crystal clear and we even had some fun waves at the end of the week due to some wind!We were 30 minutes from Harbor springs for some shopping and 30 minutes from Mackinac city for shopping and a day on the island. Only did a couple of days away though since the cottage was definitely the place to be!!Thanks so much Sommerset!! We will definitely return!

We had an outstanding time at Sommerset. It is a very wonderful and comfortable log home surrounded by pine trees and the back deck is fantastic. Even though there are house on both sides of Sommerst it seems very secluded. The log home is well maintained and the view of Lake Michigan is awesome. There is a large sandy beach with a fire pit and another wonderful view of Lake Michigan. Mackinaw City is about 25 minutes away. We will be going back in the future. We had no problems making reservation. It is a great place.

Thanks Tom! We will look forward to your next visit!
The property was very clean . Beds were comfortable.(Needed a step stool to get in). However, the washer dryer situation is not good. Washer drains in a sink which over flows. Water and electricity are not a good mix. A dishwasher would be nice.

Sorry you had the experience with the washer. There is a lint filter on the drain which most people simply clean out. The bed on the upper level is elevated so people have a great view of Lake Michigan. There is a step stool available in the laundry area.
We had a wonderful stay. Went down to the beach, enjoyed the view and walked along to the bend. It was so relaxing. Went in the hot tub. Read my book on the patio chairs. Beds and furnitures are very comfortable. Very clean house. My only advise: Make sure to buy your groceries ahead of time, including oil for cooking and jug of drinking water, if you don't like the taste of well water. Theirs wasn't bad at all but if you have kids or even adults that aren't used to it. Major grocery stores, Walmart/Meijer were about 45 mins away.

Beautiful place
Very clean, comfortable place. The pictures and description of cabin are very accurate. Inside is actually nicer than the pictures. Just a few steps down to the beach. The beach is very pretty, yes there are rocks, just wear shoes. Nice walking beach, ( it was too cold to be in the water while we were there, except for our dog, who had an amazing time in the lake) Great sunsets. Nice outside deck with deck furniture. The street to the cabin has very little traffic and nice for bike riding or walking with some nice views. We seemed to be the only ones on this stretch of beach, we never saw another person. Enjoyed the fireplace. The upstairs bedroom is very cozy, romantic. The decor is tasteful. Appliances are well maintained. There is only one close restaurant (Leggs?) The grocery store that is attached to the gas station is very well stocked and the owners were very helpful with local info. A nice drive down route 119. Runs along the coast and the changing leaves were gorgeous. Stopped at a little store Good Hart? maybe, that was on that route also. Nice owner, good pastries. We enjoyed our stay even though it was cold and very windy the cabin remained cozy.
Thank you for allowing our dog to stay with us, she loved it.
Rental process was very smooth. Communications with the property owner was just excellent. Many suggestions for area points, restaurants, etc. of interest. The property was spotless! Beautiful place in beautiful location.. 10 of 10!
My family of three really enjoyed our week-long stay at this spacious and clean log home. Close to Cross Village, Mackinaw City, Harbor Springs, and Petoskey, while merely steps away from Wilderness State Park. Guests do need to be able to navigate stairs to enjoy the property and Lake Michigan beach. Quiet residential community with very light foot traffic at the serene shoreline. Many days we were the only people out there! Home is equipped with pretty much every thing you need to enjoy your stay. WiFi and Direct TV were nice for rainy days. We appreciated the thorough guest binder with info and tips provided by the hosts.
My friends, my husband, and I really enjoyed our stay here. The private beach has many rocks for inspecting, lovely views, and the house has all the amenities you'd need.

About the host
Hosted by Mark or Kathlyne Sommers
We are native Michiganders who love our state! Originally from the northwest suburbs of Detroit, we have vacationed in northern Michigan for over 20 years. We love this area and think you will too!
Why they chose this property
All levels of golf are within a 15 minute drive. The famous 'Tunnel of Trees' which is great for cyclists or a nice afternoon drive is only 3 miles south. Explore Wilderness State Park just up the road or enjoy all sorts of water sports; kayaking, swimming, wind sailing, etc. Sommerset is a perfect place to enjoy the beauty of Lake Michigan and the grandeur of Northern Michigan.
What makes this property unique
Wonderful / wide sandy beach with gentle slope going far out into the lake. Sunsets are absolutely stunning & see the beacons from 5 light houses on a clear night. Protected by tall cedar trees and very quiet...peacefull
