About this property
Lakeside Cottage Facing White Mountains- overhangs lake - Panoramic sunset views
Welcome to this uniquely situated cottage at Ettowah Cove on Lower Kimball Pond in Fryeburg. The deck and the reading room of this cottage actually overhangs the fantastically clear lake water. This provides the sensation of being on a boat. You can fish right off the deck!
The lake is about 1 and 1/4 mile long, and 3/4 mile wide and straddles the border of Maine and New Hampshire. At 486 acres, the maximum depth is 65 feet and is home to: brown trout, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, chain pickerel, white perch, yellow perch, white sucker, Hornpout (bullhead), and pumpkin-seed sunfish.
There is a tennis / pickleball / basketball court that is shared by about 11 families, In the cottage you will find: tennis and pickleball racquets and balls, basketball, fishing rods, paddles, books, puzzles, board games and DVD's.
This cottage was part of a summer camp at Ettowah Cove started in the 1930s. There is an interesting history of Camp Ettowah in the cottage guest book.
It is only 14 miles to the resort area of North Conway, New Hampshire (various shops, outlet stores and restaurants), 20 miles to Mount Washington, and 30 miles to the White Mountain National Forest (770,000 acres!). The area is rich in scenic drives and hiking trails.
Nearby are fantastic farm stands, produce markets and orchards, ranging from one stop shopping to honor system, roadside self-serve.
A nature lovers treat, common animals and plants include: loon, cormorant, duck, goose, fish, beaver, turtle, chipmunk, bald eagle, hawk, owl, hummingbird, hemlock, spruce, pine, balsam fir, birch, beech, red maple, wild mushroom.
And the sky is so clear that the nighttime stargazing is spectacular unless the moon is full, and that's a different kind of beauty and a wonderful time to kayak and canoe on the lake,
The cottage is toward the end (about 1 mile from the paved road)of a well maintained, packed dirt road. There is no through traffic, so the area is quiet and tranquil. The cottage is on an area of the lake that is designated "no wake". You are steps away from your own small, private sandy beach.
In addition, there is a common sandy, sunny beach nearby and a common tennis/ pickle ball / basketball court.
There are two matching kayaks and one canoe available. Bring along your own stand up paddle board or small sailboat for more kinds of water fun. Various swim tubes and small floats are available as well as life jackets in a wide range of sizes, Or maybe a nap first in the hammock under the tall pines, or laying a campfire in the fire-pit for s'mores and storytelling later?
Sleeping accommodations: One upstairs queen size master bedroom with attached ½ bath, another upstairs queen size bedroom, and a first floor “bunk” room with three twin beds and one double bed.
Please bring your own towels and linens .
The cottage now has Spectrum WIFI.
This was previously listed under the prior owner, Aleta. She had many years of happy renters, with 54 reviews and an average review of 8.8 out of 10. My husband, David and I rented from Aleta for many years, and when she decided to sell the cottage, we were determined to own it so that we could continue to enjoy it's beauty and to share it with others.
David and I now live on Maui, and this property in Maine provides for some of the things we miss from the mainland: deciduous forest, fresh water lakes and rivers, North East wildlife...
If you have special interests, please let us know. We enjoy researching to find the types of local events and attractions that appeal to you.
In summary, a private, serene area with a cottage hanging over the water, striking mountain views and sunsets, deep in the Maine woods, perfect for a complete getaway and a regenerative nature experience.

Frequently asked questions
About the host
Hosted by Judy & David Starbuck

David & Judy live on Maui and love to visit the deep forest and fresh waters of Ettowah Cove on Lower Kimball Pond in Maine.
Why they chose this property
David's father searched for a perfect lake property that faced the sunset over the White Mountains of New Hampshire. He surveyed by private plane and chose Ettowah Cove on Lower KImball Pond on the Maine/New Hampshire border.
What makes this property unique
The way this cottage perches right on the water is a rarity, and combined with the tall pine forest - well, we just love it. It's a pleasure to be able to share it with others.
