About this property

The Farmhouse at Otyokwa

A summer getaway or winter respite, our four-season Farmhouse at Otyokwa is the 'Top House' of the original boys camp operated in the 30's. The house has been lightly renovated in a modern style, yet keeping many aspects of the classic American Farmhouse. With 4 bedrooms, a spacious kitchen, full bathroom, and more intimate sitting rooms, this space is perfect for gathering with family & friends for a Mid Coast vacation or a more private sanctuary in our secluded spot on 40 acres of old growth forest and flowering meadow.

Entering through the bright sunroom - perfect for morning coffee and meadow views - you'll see the Farmhouse kitchen, newly updated and fully equipped.

Through the dining room, the cozy living room is perfect for chatting or reading in one of the oversized chairs.

There is one large bathroom with shower, original iron tub, and washer/dryer.

Four comfortable bedrooms await upstairs with high-quality linens and warm comforters for the chillier Maine nights.

Outside, enjoy the extensive yard and adjoining fields, perfect for relaxing, picnicking, or meandering strolls in the spring and summer; or snowshoeing and cross-country skiing in the winter. Ice fishing is also welcome once conditions allow.

Camp Otyokwa opened in 1935 and closed in 1941 at the start of World War II. The Farmhouse, known as the 'Top House', served as a part-time dining hall and check-in area for the campers arriving for the summer session. After the camp's closing, it was used by the owner's family as a guest house for visitors. You see hints of the property's rich history throughout the Farmhouse harkening back to its early days as a respite for all who visited.

Property Access
In both the summer and winter seasons, guests of the Farmhouse are welcome to enjoy the large yard and adjoining fields.

Winter Access: The Farmhouse is a wonderful cold-weather destination, with full access to frozen Lake Pemaquid, a 7-minute snowshoe, walk, or ski down the hill (depending on the conditions). Please do not drive down to the lake, it's easy to get stuck... we invite you to enjoy the walk! Please do not go in or around the lakeside cabins as they are a hazard in the winter. But if you're interested, you can ski, skate, or ice fish on the lake. PLEASE CONFIRM WITH YOUR HOST THAT THE ICE IS THICK ENOUGH BEFORE DOING SO!

Summer Access: During the summer season (May thru October), we host guests at additional locations on the property, about a 1/4 mile distance from the Farmhouse. You should expect privacy in and around the Farmhouse and its extensive yard. However, lake access is not guaranteed and should not be expected. Your host will orient you when you arrive and please ask if you need more detail before booking.

Your host lives on-site in the adjoining caretaker's apartment. You'll be separated by locked double doors with noise-dampening for privacy. Your host is often on-site working on the property if you need anything immediately but will certainly afford you space and privacy to enjoy yourselves!

If we are not hosting any other guests, you may coordinate for use of our lakeside amenities (sauna, firepit & firewood, BBQ grill & propane, canoes, kayaks, SUPs, swim float, outdoor dining area) for an additional fee. Please inquire if interested. We cannot guarantee this access, so if it is important to you, please inquire before booking.

Please respect our 11am check-out time - due to our tight turnaround time and housekeeper scheduling, if your guest party remains on-site beyond 11:20 on the day of your checkout, you will be charged an additional $100 fee for our cleaners' delay.

Weekend winter stay

Overall we had a nice stay at this location. We did find several of the pots and pans dirty (left over food on a frying pan) and many lady bugs and flys upstairs in the home (understood this does happen in an older home). The onsite house is located in an attached apartment to the main house. We did not see her, but she was responsive to messaging. The bed and linens were clean and comfortable.

Thank you for informing us that some of our kitchenware needs attention, Ellie. And it is the time of year that the ladybugs become active when the sun warms the windows, so we have vacuumed and installed traps to remedy the situation. I hope these inconveniences didn't detract from an otherwise enjoyable stay. In the future, if you have any issues at all, we would be happy to take care of them on the spot if you simply let us know. Please enjoy the rest of your winter and thank you for choosing to stay with us at Otyokwa!
