Peaceful private woodland home, open and airy, with ocean views and fire pit
Tucked quietly away, up overlooking the harbor and a sea of pine and spruce trees, you can peacefully escape to Waterview Hideaway in Southwest Harbor. Surrounded by the sounds of singing birds, with frequent visits from the large local deer population, you’ll feel as though you are a world away. Yet you can walk down the hill to the center of Southwest Harbor in less than 10 minutes for a lobster roll and an ice cream cone.
Located on the quiet side of the island, phenomenal hiking, biking, kayaking, and swimming are only minutes away. Within 10 minutes, you can be at the trailhead of some of the much less traveled, yet equally spectacular mountains of Acadia National Park: Beech, Bernard, Mansell, St. Sauveur and Acadia peaks. If a flat hike is more your speed, take in the breathtaking ocean vistas from the Wonderland or Ship’s Harbor trails in Southwest Harbor, 15 minutes away. If you are looking for a great swimming location, Echo lake’s beach is 8 minutes away (and is much warmer than swimming at Sand Beach in Bar Harbor on the Park Loop Road). If you’re seeking lobster or seafood, Beal’s Lobster Pier, 8 minutes away, is up there with the best of the best. Very private, yet centrally located, Waterview Hideaway is your hub for all of your Park adventures.
While at the house, enjoy the spacious and open living room with high ceilings and a propane fireplace. If cooking at home, everything is at your fingertips in the galley kitchen. The dining room can comfortably seat six. A spiral staircase leads up to the loft with a queen size sleeper sofa, a desk with a monitor, the master bathroom and master bedroom with king size bed. Enjoy some of the best views in the house from the screened in porch located off of the loft. In the evenings, cozy up to the fire at night while roasting marshmallows for s’mores in the newly built fire pit.
A separate newly renovated cabin is also included, with an additional king size bed and small second bedroom with two twin size beds. In the cabin is a small kitchen, dining table, and full bathroom.
Note: the cabin is available in October, however, the cabin is heated by space heaters and does not have central heating. It is comfortable for most and is insulated with ceiling fans, but we recognize the 'shoulder season' cabin experience isn't for everyone. When the cabin is used, max capacity is 8 guests.

Beautiful wooded setting with incredible moss, great firepit, nice view, comfy beds, cool decor! It added so much to our Maine experience. Grandparents and kids slept in cabin. Parents in main house. We had meals and gatherings in main house but it was nice to have some separate time as well. Unique house/cabin. You won’t be disappointed!
And home is very nice. It is very secluded in a very quiet patch of woods. The view from the deck is great. The hosts were very responsive.

It was such a pleasure hosting you. Thank you so much for your kind words about our responsiveness. We're so glad that you found the views great and enjoyed the seclusion of the property in the woods.
The place was great! We liked being on the quiet side of bar harbor - still close enough to do everything we wanted to. The firepit looks exactly like the pictures and was such a treat. Both houses were clean with all the amenities we needed. Jocelyn was super communicative and gave us great recommendations and flexibility with our check-out time. Highly recommend!

Christy, thank you for sharing your experience here. We also love being on the quiet side of the island and find it to be so peaceful at the house, while still being very convenient to the things that we love doing. We worked hard to build that fire pit and we are thrilled that it is being enjoyed! We are so happy that we could provide you with a great stay!
We had a wonderful stay at this property! It was the perfect mix of privacy and convenience; peaceful and quiet, yet still close enough to easily access Southwest Harbor and the quieter side of the island. The harbor views were beautiful and made the setting feel really special. We also loved the additional cabin, which was updated so nicely and was a great extra space. It was a wonderful place to come back to after exploring the island, and we would definitely recommend it to others!

So glad to hear that you had a lovely time, Chad! And that you had other great plans in the area - there's so much to do! You're welcome back anytime. :)
We really enjoyed our stay here! The location was great for visiting Acadia National Park, and we loved being close to Bar Harbor while still having a beautiful, peaceful view. It was about 25 minutes to Bar Harbor Village, and a little farther of a drive to the coastal side of Acadia, but the views and amazing fire pit made it worth it.The home could use a little updating, particularly the kitchen, and we did run into a few issues during our stay. The internet was unreliable, some of the TVs weren’t working, and the outdoor trash bins were already full from previous guests, which made it difficult for us to find space for our trash. That being said, the host was VERY approachable, responsive, and quick to help. When we reached out about the internet, they had someone come over right away to fix it. We also really appreciated how accommodating they were with our dogs. This is a very dog-friendly property, which was a huge plus for us!One thing to keep in mind is that the spiral staircase can be a little challenging when carrying luggage, so I probably wouldn’t recommend it for an older couple or anyone who may have difficulty with stairs.Overall, we had a nice stay and really appreciated how easy the host was to communicate with. With a few updates and some attention to the issues we experienced, this could easily be a 5-star stay!

Thank you for staying with us! We’re so glad you enjoyed the peaceful waterfront setting, fire pit, proximity to Acadia and Bar Harbor, and especially our dog-friendly accommodations. We also appreciate your kind words about our responsiveness.
We did want to provide a little additional context regarding a few of the issues mentioned. When you alerted us to the internet working inside the house, but not in the next door cabin we responded immediately and were able to have that issue resolved during your stay; this also resolved the TV issue in the cabin since it was dependent on the internet. The TV in the upstairs bedroom was changed out after your stay.
Regarding the trash, our cleaners notified us before your arrival that our trash service had unexpectedly missed its scheduled pickup. We reached out to you proactively before your stay to let you know and provided an alternative designated location for your trash so that it would not be in your way. Unfortunately, despite repeatedly assuring us that they were coming, the trash company failed to complete the pickup during your stay. We kept you updated and provided the alternative trash location again as the situation continued. We have since added a larger trash receptacle and discontinued using that service so this does not become a recurring issue.
We appreciate your feedback about the kitchen and spiral staircase as well and are always looking for ways to improve the property and our guests’ experience. While the spiral staircase is narrow, we find it part of the charm of the house and we are clear about it being narrow in our listing. Regarding the kitchen, we have plans to renovate the kitchen as part of a larger renovation project in the near future and we can't wait!
Thank you again for choosing our home for your Acadia visit. We’re glad you enjoyed your stay and the beautiful setting!
