About this property
Franklin Battlefield Inn - Downtown Franklin, TN
Franklin Battlefield Inn (1303 Columbia Avenue) is a beautiful historic Folk Victorian home built c. 1902, but with all the modern luxuries for the 21st century traveler… including three bedrooms, two bathrooms with limitless hot water provided by a tank-less hot water heater, a fully equipped kitchen with granite counter tops, tile back splash, a gas stove, oven, dishwasher, refrigerator and ice maker, washer and dryer, a vent-less gas log fireplace and one large smart TV in the living room.
Franklin Battlefield Inn is centrally located in Historic Downtown Franklin! If you are here to visit the Number One Small Town in TN (according to Southern Living), you will want to stay here. Walk to Franklin’s thriving Main Street, dining, groceries, shopping, parks, museums and more. And if you are here to visit Nashville, Franklin Battlefield Inn is only a hop, skip and a jump from Music City USA (just a 30 minute drive).
Our county historian named this family home “Franklin Battlefield Inn,” because the house is located on ground zero of the Battle of Franklin. It is argued that the Battle of Franklin was the bloodiest battle of the Civil War, and this house sits at the very center of where the battle was fought! The Carter House and Museum are just two blocks north.
After the Civil War, Samuel P. Redford bought land from the Carter family and built several houses using wood from his lumber mill. Between 1899 and 1902, Sam Redford built this home using the finest red oak from his mill. Since then, five generations of Redfords have lived here (and a couple died here, but shhh don’t tell the kids there are ghosts). We have heard stories of how our ancestors used to board guests in this home. We hope to bring back this tradition of hospitality by welcoming you to stay at the FBI.
With a gorgeous fenced in back yard, spacious deck and crab orchard stone island with fire pit, Franklin Battlefield Inn is a great place for events such as parties, teas, cookouts, reunions or weddings. For an additional fee, you may have your party at the FBI. (Please note that events must be approved and scheduled in advance.)

About the host
Hosted by Mary Ellen Redford
Although, born, raised and educated in Nashville, Mary Ellen married Clyde Redford of Franklin in 1969. He and his father grew up in this house, which was built by Clyde's grandfather in 1902.
Mary Ellen lives south of Leiper's Fork, about a 25 minute drive from the FBI.

Why they chose this property
This property has been passed down from one generation to the next. Sam Redford built this home and others in Franklin between 1899 and 1902 having purchased the land from what had been part of the Carter plantation. This home holds great sentimental value for the Redford family, so much so that when the 5th generation, Emily Redford, moved out, we decided to restore it, preserve it, keep it in the family for future generations and share it with others. Today we are offering our family home for travelers seeking comfort, luxury and ambiance in their travel accommodations.
What makes this property unique
Staying at the Franklin Battlefield Inn is a step back into time, a slower, gentler time of charm and grace. Built only 38 years after the Civil War, this property was on the battlefield. History abounds. Visit the Lotz House (perhaps a ghost tour would appeal to you), Historic Carter House and Carnton Mansion.
The back deck and back yard with a fire pit offer visitors the opportunity to sit back, relax and enjoy their time together. We think you will feel the love that has gone into restoring the old and creating the new aspects of this home. It is not a Victorian Museum, but rather a charming and comfortable place to make new memories.
