About this property

Elegant Historic Nine Bedroom Estate On 13 Acres Overlooking Long Island Sound

This historic, rambling home sits on 13 acres at the end of a private lane overlooking the Long Island Sound and the Connecticut River. The views are spectacular with the beach just a short walk from the front door. Cherished by families for generations, this 9 Bedroom/5 Bath home is stately and elegant while being welcoming and comfortable for all ages.

The newly renovated kitchen with island and granite counter tops features two stoves, two refrigerators, two sinks and two dishwashers for those who love to cook and entertain. Dine with your family and friends in the gathering room, formal dining room or outside on the front lawn.

A large living room with ample seating has views both south and west toward the Connecticut River. Practice your favorite songs on the upright Sohmer in the Piano room. There is even a toy room for the little ones with games and many books.

For those who love the outdoors, take a walk, run or bike ride along the private lane. Grab your favorite book and a glass of iced tea and relax on the lounge chairs under the trees. In the summer enjoy cocktails on the North Porch as the sun sets over the Connecticut River. Many wonderful family barbecues have been enjoyed on the front lawn facing the Long Island Sound. If you are lucky you might catch fireworks across the Sound or on the River from the Adirondack chairs.

The twin bedroom and full bath, located on the first floor, are handicapped accessible. The other eight bedrooms and four bathrooms are on the second floor accessible by a front and back staircase. Each room is carefully decorated in a classic New England style.

You will find everything you need to enjoy a summer week at this classic home. There is a laundry room, outdoor barbecue grill, and outdoor shower. You can have a lively game of American croquet and bocce on the front lawn.

The scenic town of Old Lyme and surrounding area offer art and historic museums, stunning nature walks, shopping and access to the Connecticut River and Long Island Sound for boating and Kayaking.

Come make some memories.

Memories For A Lifetime
Last week our family spent a relaxing, memory filled vacation at the Old House on Griswold Point. Our host Susan Armstrong was wonderful and left no stone unturned as far as being informative and providing us with everything one might need for a perfect vacation. The home is spacious and has an “at home” feel to it. We were 10 adults and 3 small children and there was plenty of room for all of us. In big groups we enjoyed gathering in the dining room or outside at the large table overlooking the sound. In smaller groups there was the Parlor or the North Porch. The little ones loved the playroom and it was stocked with blocks, books and all sorts of toys to keep them busy. We especially enjoyed gathering to relax or fish at the beach. We couldn’t have asked for a better spot to spend a week together! The icing on the cake was that our youngest daughter got engaged at the Old House last week! Our vacation at the Old House provided us with a place to make memories that will last a lifetime.

Perfect location for creating family life-long memories.
The Old House and Griswold Point was a fantastic place to spend a fun-filled and relaxing week with 13 family members, including 5 young grandchildren. We felt at home right away. We all enjoyed the house, the lawns, the beach and the rich history of the home. Kids voted it "Best house for hide-and-seek ever". Hope to return again !

A Little Slice of Heaven
This is a truly magnificent piece of property and my family and I had an unforgettable vacation. To start, the hosts were incredibly kind, responsive, and helpful...even welcoming us with a basket of goodies on our first day. The historic home is well stocked and we wanted for absolutely nothing during our stay. But most important was the sweeping views, the beautiful beach, and the feeling of peace that overcomes you as soon as you pull on to the point. I cannot recommend the Old House highly enough...I'm crossing my fingers they will have room for us again next year!

An Amazingly Memorable & Idyllic Vacation
This is a truly special, historic home with everything that you could want or need for a special occasion or family vacation. The house itself is incredibly comfortable with ample space. It has lots of interesting historic artefacts but at the same time feels like a family home. We did not want for anything during our stay, everything you could possibly need is provided. The grounds are magical & idyllic & the beach is absolutely beautiful. If you're looking for somewhere peaceful to unwind while still being close to shops, restaurants & areas of interest or activities it is ideal. The location is fabulous & you can do as much or a little as you want. The view from the house is exceptional & eating out, under the trees was a real treat. Rob (who met us & assisted us during our stay) & Susan (who did all the initial communications & organisation) were the most amazing hosts too & could not do enough to help. They went out of their way to accommodate us & any special requests. They were a pleasure to deal with. I cannot recommend Old House on Griswold Point highly enough.

Fabulous location
Spent a week at this beautiful, old house with our extended family. Loved the beach and waterfront. Great swimming area for my grandchildren. We had most of our meals outside overlooking the Long Island Sound. The sunsets were spectacular too. Overall a great week for our family.

Griswold Point
My family and I loved our stay here. It was private and spacious for my group of 16. The children (ages 1- 25) enjoyed the beach and yard as much as the adults. We played yard games, flew kites and relaxed while renewing our bond with one another. The Connecticut history was priceless. Loved it!

Great Location
Needed a getaway for a family spring weekend. The new kitchen is great for cooking meals for our large family and we had great dinners in the dining room. Loved our walks to the beach. We would certainly like to visit again.

Amazing
This home on the water was perfect for our group. We enjoyed walks to the beach and wonderful meals in the dining room. The location is perfect at the end of a private road, but close to Old Lyme, Old Saybrook and Essex for shopping, dining and exploring. What a peaceful retreat for our family and friends! Look forward to returning in the summer.

My family has owned this lovely home for generations. We have enjoyed many family vacations, weddings, Thanksgivings and Christmases at our home. I personally own and rent my vacation villas in the Caribbean and have been granted permission by my family to share this beautiful home with friends and guests.

What makes this property unique

Location, location, location. Wonderful home, on private property with private beach and spectacular views. Close to all that the Connecticut shore has to walks, museums, Mystic Seaport, casinos, biking, ferries to LI or Block Island, tennis. Family time creates those fabulous memories.
