About this property

Idyllic One Bedroom Suite with Delightful Ocean and Island Views near Acadia

This high end suite designed and built in 2015-2016 was inspired by the natural beauty of the rugged Maine coast and is on the 2nd floor of an architecturally designed three story home. It offers a great room enclosed by three walls of windows. The great room includes a kitchen, dining and comfortable seating area looking out at Blue Hill Bay and Swan's Island. The sofa converts to a single bed by easily removing the arms and back cushions. Hardwood flooring throughout. The fully equipped kitchen includes a stove, fridge, microwave, dishwasher, glass front cabinets, pantry storage and granite countertops. The dining area consists of seating for four with water views, and table linens. For those chilly nights, a gas stove with glass front provides warmth and atmosphere with the ease of a remote!
The beautifully appointed bath is highlighted by a sea glass tile tub wall, rainfall shower head and spacious vanity storage with a marble counter top. The light filled bedroom boasts a bay view and a luxurious upholstered Queen bed including bedside tables, reading lamps, full size closet, drapes and blackout shades.
A spiral staircase leads to the private entrance of this 2nd floor suite separated from the rest of the house with a sound insulating door and locks. This is useful to note, as it is above our carport, and below our deck, kitchen, and dining area. We have insulated for sound, and are respectful, but please note that you can hear our dogs or our footsteps, or voices periodically.
We send you the door code with the address and driving directions about 30 days before you arrive, and the WiFi code will be in the apartment.
The suite enjoys a stone patio and garden with a picnic table, grill, outdoor seating , and fire pit overlooking the sea views. NEW, summer 2020, we added landscaping including expanded patio, water feature with natural stone soaking pool, long dry brook with bridges, bordered by flowering shrubs and woodland trees. We also invite you to enjoy the 4 acre property including Bocce Court.
Seaview Quarters is approximately 600 ft from the waters edge, in a woodland setting on the QUIET SIDE of Mt. Desert Island. Enjoy the sights and sounds of the lobster boats in the morning, and a welcoming sea breeze on a warm afternoon. It enjoys sightings of eagles, sea birds, fox, and deer on the property. It is less than 2 miles to lovely Back Beach on Bass Harbor and Thurston's Lobster Pound. It is 4 miles to Ship Harbor Trail , Bass Harbor Lighthouse and to Southwest Harbor with it's restaurants and shopping. Park Loop Rd in ACADIA NATIONAL PARK and Bar Harbor are about 18 miles. Close kayak launch areas are Back Beach and Seal Cove. Acadia National Park comprises about half of Mt Desert Island but the scenery on the entire island is pretty spectacular, there is a reason this is National Park Territory!

Incredible experience

We couldn’t have been happier with this stay. The hosts were communicative and generous with their advice, the house was even more beautiful and clean in person, and they had thought of everything to make it comfortable - local guides, cooking supplies, travel sized toiletries, etc. I’d come again in a heartbeat, hope to be back in the future!

Fantastic!

Sea View Quarters - both the apartment and the entire property - is gorgeous. Sandy and Dan were great hosts! Their guidance, recommendations, and extensive knowledge helped us get the most out of our vacation. We showed up not having had the time to do much research, and every time we followed their advice on trails, restaurants, and dog-friendly things to do it worked out very well! We are so glad to have stayed here, and highly recommend it!

What a delightful place with high end design and quality, exceed expectation!!

Me and my dog stayed at this beautiful, immaculate place for over a week in July. The whole experience is just perfect from the welcoming email communications to interactions during the week with Sandy and Dan. They are kind, knowledgeable and helpful with loving hearts for dogs. This well designed apartment is spotless, cozy, fully equipped and stocked with all you need from kitchen to bathroom and plus more. I am still amazed by how detail Sandy has thought of and provided for our stay. She even prepared the welcoming treats for me AND my dog! That warmed my heart as I opened the door and saw the bowls on top of a cute placemat she prepared for my dog. Watching the sailboats crossing the island with the ocean breezes at your face while having breakfast was the best way to start off each day. Sandy and Dan shared their 30 plus years of wonderful experiences of the island with us and let us tag along with them and their beautiful friendly dogs, Winston and Sasha, on some hikes in Little Long Pond. The location is private but so easy to get to all the trailheads and beaches. We filled the week with hiking, swimming, napping and watching sunsets. We enjoyed the “quiet side” very much! I highly recommend this place and will definitely come back here and stay longer next summer.

It was a delightful experience!

Our accommodations exceeded the excitement we had anticipated after viewing the photos and the comments of other guests. Sandy and Dan have equipped this apartment with everything anyone could possibly need in a kitchen, family room, bedroom and bathroom. It was so clean, comfortable, cozy and private. The view from every window was beautiful as we took in the expanse of the gardens, water, birds and trees that surrounded us. The location on the "quiet side" of the island was terrific. Since everything you would want to do is so close, we were able to enjoy the entire island and find good restaurants, trails, shops, boat rides and scenic drives. Sandy really helped us narrow our choices by supplying both brochures and personal recommendations of places she and Dan have experienced. Our hosts treated us as special guests and added pleasant surprises that I won't mention, so their next quests who are lucky enough to stay here will enjoy them too. Donna and Tom Egan

Beautifully appointed apartment in the tree tops with seaside view.

We loved this property in the wilderness just 4 miles outside of the quaint village of Southwest Harbor. The accommodation was spotless and comfortable and had everything we needed to cook our meals and enjoy the surrounding area. It was well equipped with brochures and maps to become acquainted with the activities the island had to offer. There were nice personal touches that we enjoyed as well. The owners were on site who were so kind and a wealth of information of the area. We would certainly return if the opportunity presents itself.

Beautiful sunny property with nice views a few minutes drive from Southwest Harbor.

The apartment is very sunny, immaculate and beautifully appointed. The decor was planned with great care and taste. Wild rabbits and deer walking on the property added to the charm. The view of the ocean from the apartment is a plus. The hosts were most gracious, helpful in advising on activities and restaurants near by. We not only recommend it but hope to return in the future.

Breezy, Cozy and Quiet

We enjoyed a week away for our 10th anniversary on the Quietside of Mount Desert Island. The space was inviting as the breeze swept through the birds sang. We found it to be the perfect landing place during our trip filled with hiking, kayaking, whale watching and rock scrambling. It was easy to access from the Bangor airport, the owners were helpful and friendly giving directions, hike recommendations (which were also in the book inside the room) and restaurant advice. The location was private but had close access to hikes, ocean views and restaurants. I appreciated the electric kettle, any kitchen tool I wanted, high quality coffee pot and selection of tea for the chilly nights and the fireplace to take off the chill and add a bit of ambiance. I highly recommend this location and property. We had no problem with the spiral staircase, the apartment felt private and airy at the same time. We enjoyed the outdoor area for relaxing in the evening or afternoon. The main sitting room was perfect for enjoying breakfast and an ocean breeze before heading out for a hike on the Quietside or just 40 minutes to anything on Park Loop road or in Bar Harbor.

Lovely hideaway on the 'quiet side' of Acadia / Mount Desert Island

Airy and cozy at the same time! We enjoyed visiting this side of the island with all that it has to offer (great hiking, rocky beaches, ferries, and yummy restaurants). The apartment was so wonderfully appointed and well stocked that it made living there for a week feel almost like home. The design was bright and since it is on the second story (outside circular staircase to the private entrance), the views and breezes were delightful. The little extras (like fresh ground local decaf coffee and starfish ice cube trays) were much appreciated. We hope to come back again next summer!

About the host

Hosted by Sandy Parlett

Host profile image
Retired professionals in love with the Maine coast. Hiking, biking, kayaking, OH MY!
April of 2017, we added our enthusiast Australian Shepherd, Sasha Wildfire. January 2018 we added our more reserved, but sweet Australian Shepherd, Winston. Our Host pups stay out of guest quarters, but can meet and greet when welcomed. They have completed quite a few training and manners classes, however they would love to bark at those squirrels way more than we prefer, so that is a work in progress!

Why they chose this property

The property is located on the quiet side of MDI yet within easy driving to Acadia National Park. It has beautiful water views across to Swans Island and is five to ten minutes to Bass Harbor and Southwest Harbor. We love our views, but unfortunately we do not have walking access to the water. The closest public water access is about a 5 minute drive to Back Beach on Lopaus Point Road.

What makes this property unique

The water views, ocean breezes on warm days and easy access to Acadia and all MDI has to offer.
