About this property
Annie's Cottage. A pretty chocolate box style cottage with lots of character.
Annie’s Cottage is charming and characterful with one bedroom, exposed flint walls, beams and an inglenook fireplace. The cottage can accommodate up to 3 guests in the bedroom with an additional portable bed which is perfect for small families. There is also a bed settee in the sitting room which can sleep additional guests.
Annie's Cottage is situated on a country road, at the edge of a village, within 4 miles of the coast. The kitchen in this lovely cottage is fully equipped with granite style work surfaces, a sink, electric hob, fan oven and grill, microwave, toaster, fridge with icebox, and a washing machine/tumble dryer, so you can stay as long as you like! And, it also has lots of character with an exposed flint and stone wall.
The sitting room has 3-foot-thick walls and deep set windows, a large inglenook fireplace incorporating an original baker's oven and beams. And because of the thickness of the walls, this room stays lovely and cool on hot summer days, but keeps the heat in on cold winter ones.
The lovingly refurbished ground floor bathroom has a shower over the top which is remotely controlled, so you can select the temperature and pressure even before you get in. The mirror above the sink is rather large with lights all the way around, and additional mood lighting underneath. The bathroom is usefully situated between the upstairs bedroom and the downstairs sitting room, which is great if you have additional guests sleeping on the bed settee.
The upstairs bedroom has a romantic feel with sloping ceilings and bay windows. The king size bed with a super king size duvet and generous walk in wardrobe, gives this surprisingly large and characterful bedroom a feel of luxury. There is also a double socket with a usb port for guests to be able to re-charge their phones easily.
The cottage has a lovely seating area to the front, which catches the sun from late morning till late afternoon. It's perfect for alfresco dining or relaxing whilst watching the wildlife. However sometimes this seating area has to be moved in early spring, due to a lovely little robin who occasionally makes her nest in the letterbox next to the front door. She seems quite happy for guests to use the front door, but doesn't like sharing the letter box with postman, so he has to find somewhere else to put the letters!
And finally, being able to park outside the cottage or in the spacious private courtyard, and in the summer under the lovely cool shade of the tall trees, adds to the pleasure and ease of staying in this chocolate box style cottage.
And finally, the price of the cottage varies depending on the time of year. The price is currently set for the summer, so please enquire for an exact price for spring, autumn and winter.

A lovely cottage set in the open country, but yet very convenient to take advantage of all that the Thanet area has to offer. Comfortable and cosy, great for a break away. Owner very helpful and friendly.

A well appointed pretty cottage in a great central location for exploring Thanet and the East of Kent. Very comfortable and peaceful. We had a great week with lots of places to visit without having to travel too far. The owners were very helpful and the booking and arrangements all went smoothly.

Thank you so much for your lovely comments. That's great you enjoyed staying in Annie's Cottage. It would be so lovely to see you both again x
Annie's Cottage was a delightful property to stay in as we toured the Thanet area. Extremely comfortable, clean, well equipped and very quiet. Suzanne and George, the owners, made us feel very welcome and it proved an ideal base to visit the resorts of Margate, Ramsgate, Deal, Broadstairs, Whitstable and Birchington and also delightful and historic towns and cities such as Rochester and Sandwich - all of these an easy drive from the cottage. We'd certainly stay there again.

I love that, a lady of few words but good ones, thank you! I did have to laugh as my husband said that when you left you said you had had a good time but you were going somewhere better! He thought that was a little unusual until you the said that you were off to go on a cruise! Yes, I do believe a cruise would be even better and I hope you both have a fantastic time. And thank you, we do like to leave our guests to enjoy their stay in peace, we are there if you need us but other than that we will leave you to enjoy your stay, so it's great to know that you liked that. And thank you for the tin of chocolates and the lovely note. The chocolates have now disappeared once the children found them, but thank you for the ones I did get to enjoy, and I am sure the kids would like to thank you too!

Thank you for taking the time to do the star rating. It's the first 3 star we have ever had. We welcome constructive feed back, so to know what you were underwhelmed by would be helpful, as nothing specific is mentioned, and you didn't mention anything at the time although we live on site. Was it the cottage which has a 4 star quality rating from Visit England, or was it the area? Happy to engage with you so that we can rectify anything that it within our power to do so for future guests.
I rented Annie’s Cottage as I needed a peaceful place to work. Not only did it exceed my expectations, it was fabulous! The hosts Suzanne and George were so incredibly welcoming and friendly. Never intrusive, but there should you have any problems ( I didn’t. Everything was great.) I was sorry to leave. The house, and nearby surroundings, have such a lovely vibe. I will DEFINITELY be returning. In fact, I can’t wait to! So, thank - you Suzanne and George for making my stay so productive. I couldn’t have picked a better place to stay. A perfect place, for sure.

Thank you so much Jacqui for an amazing review. It was so lovely to meet you, and that's great that you had such a productive time and that you enjoyed staying in Annie's Cottage. I'm so looking forward to seeing you again.
What a beautiful cottage in a fantastic location. Right next to Manston airport with all the RAF & Spitfire history to enjoy. A short drive from so many amenities and ever such easy access to the coast of Kent. The cottage has so much history and the pictures do not do it justice. The living room is much bigger than we expected! The cottage is in a beautiful little quiet courtyard with an easy drive round circle to get through the access archway. The turn in from the road is a little hidden but the host has installed multicoloured lights to help late arrivals find the opening easily. She also called us with very detailed directions and descriptions so we could find the cottage easily, which was really helpful. We were staying in the depth of winter and the cottage heating system did the job of keeping us warm very nicely. The bathroom is modern with plenty of hot water at all times. The kitchen was perfectly adequate for 2 people's needs and the oven cooked evenly and at the temperature we expected (sometimes it's hit and miss in cottages!) but it would be good if an additional oven shelf could be put in I think. One shelf was a bit of a juggle. We loved our stay at this cottage with the ever so warm welcome, wonderful information about the local area and the absolute peace and quiet of the location.I had to work from the cottage for half a day and the WiFi did not let me down, which was great.Highly recommend this accommodation. Simply lovely.
We loved the location for both the coast and Canterbury. We are keen cooks and brought all our ingredients with us so can’t comment on local restaurants but the well-equipped kitchen is tiny, which made prepping food and elaborate cooking challenging. The cottage is sweet and perfect for a couple.

Thank you for your feedback. Annie's Cottage does have great character and is sweet as you kindly say, and you're right the kitchen isn't enormous. And thank you, we do try to provide everything that we can think of that guests would find useful to cook there, so good for you for trying. It sounds like you enjoyed staying there which is lovely. Hope you have a good 2021 and hopefully we will see you again in the future. You might find Well Cottage which is next to Annie's Cottage easier for cooking, and The Chapel will definitely be large enough and you can even bring the family too! Best wishes to you both ;)
A good rest in secluded property not far from the sea front.
I had the good rest that I wanted. The bed is ultra comfortable and the property is secluded and quiet. Gorgeous house with heritage and character but with all
the modern comfort . Amazing coast lines nearby and great walks to be done by the sea. Plenty of fresh food, very kind locals and friendly hosts. It was hard to leave! ❤️

Lovely hostess. Warm welcome. Comfortable cottage with everything I needed. For most people it would probably be quiet enough. The bedroom windows lacked double-glazing and with driveway and cars in front, a light sleeper may not find it quiet enough.

Thank you for taking the time to write that lovely and very honest review. You are quite right, sadly we don't have double glazing as the building dates back to the 12th Century, and also because of the history, it's grade 2 listed so double glazing sadly isn't allowed. Although guests constantly say how quiet it is here, if you suffer from being a very light sleeper, things that most guests don't hear you sadly do. I am so sorry, that must be so frustrating for you. However, it was lovely to meet you and I hope you find somewhere even more quiet for your next visit.
About the host
Your host
My family and I all live in a historic grade 2 listed building on the edge of the village of Manston in Kent. It was used as a farm house for many years, but since moving in here, we now use part of the building as holiday accommodation. It's great working from home and inviting guests to stay in our lovely properties. We take real pride in making them as nice as we can, so that our guests can have the best stay possible.
Why they chose this property
Annie's Cottage used to be the servants cottage many years ago, and of course she was called Annie. It was also used as a bakery, and still has the bakers oven in the sitting room incorporated in to the Inglenook fireplace. I am told that it still works but we haven't tried that one yet! The cottage is very pretty with exposed beams, the lovely fire place, and internal exposed flint walls. It has lots of character and is lovely and cool in the summer and nicely warm in the winter. It's just a very relaxin place to stay.
What makes this property unique
There is guaranteed parking within the private grounds outside the cottage which is always very useful, or under the shade of the lovely trees opposite in the warm weather keeping the car cool. We are on hand if needed which too can be very helpful for guests to know that someone is there if they need to ask anything. The location is very quiet and peaceful. There are 3 holiday properties - Annie's Cottage, Well Cottage and The Chapel. Well Cottage also has one bedroom but is all on one level, and The Chapel is a large 3 bedroom house with a 40 foot sitting room, full size pool table, four 3 seater sofas and a large tv. The kitchen is open plan and designed for entertaining. The Chapel can sleep up to 10 guests, and with the two cottages as well all three properties can sleep up to 18 guests, which makes it perfect for families and groups for a special holiday or celebration.
