We had a lovely stay over new year. Beautiful location, great for walks. Lots of good country pubs a short drive away. There is a pub across the road, but it was closed to non-residents when we were there. Also there was no hairdryer in the property, so take your own!
The area around the cottage was exquisitely beautiful, with walks from the door for all levels of hiking. We did not use the car once during our stay. A note in the information booklet said the cottage is undergoing a refurbishment in winter 2025, so hopefully some of the facilities will be modernised. A set of decent knives would have been good. The major drawback for us was the proximity of the cottage to the main road. The road noise was very intrusive, particularly early morning, wishing we had read the previous reviews on this before booking. Despite this we still had a great week.

Lobstone Cottage is in a wonderful location - a paradise for all walkers! We hardly used our car all week.
The cottage is comfortable and homely - all we needed. While the front is directly on the narrowest bit of the road going through Rosthwaite, that didn’t bother us. There is no traffic at night - from 8pm it was very quiet, and the first signs of life in Borrowdale were when farm vehicles started to come through around 7am.
Would we go back again - yes, indeed!

If you're reading this, you already know the charm of the location. It's a proper cottage, in a special part of the Lakes. It's actually nestled in the perfect spot for walks straight out the door, both for families and hikers. Like many traditional cottages, it is next to a road - this didn't bother me and what July traffic there was dried up by about 10ish, but worth bearing in mind if that's super important to you. The only time it disturbed me was a flock of sheep being herded at 6am, which was brilliant.
It's got lots of charm, with wooden beams, flagstone floors etc. Unfortunately only an electric fire - not needed in July but a wood burned might be appreciated in colder months.

Great location for walking (but right on main road through Borrowdale & opposite pub, so noisy - the only reason I might not stay there again). Parking on site, but very tight. Super clean, very well equipped, best dishwasher I've ever used.
