Mike was a wonderful host. Quick to respond. The property was absolutely stellar. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay in Maine. We would highly recommend!!
Property was wonderful! It’s in the perfect location. Close to everything but away from the bustle. We will do our best to stay here again. Very well equipped and photos are accurate. Thank you for a great vacation.
The house was perfect for us and the dog. Close to everything but far enough away for a very peaceful and relaxing stay. Enjoyed watching the seals in the morning and an occasional eagle.
Check in was easy and as communicated. Lovely, private, comfy, and cozy cottage right on Somes Sound. Loved my stay here and perfect for 1 to 2 people. Space is small but the fieldstone fire place creates a feeling of separation between the sleeping, kitchen, and dining area. Very sweet!
The property is cozy, comfortable and clean. The view is outstanding! We made so many memories in Acadia while we stayed here. A wonderful little cottage.
Excellent small cottage, perfect for one or two people, terrific views, near to many shops and restaurants in Soithwest Harbor and a 30 minute drive to Bar Harbor.
We enjoyed our stay at Skywater. There were wonderful sunrises and the area is quiet. The loons could be heard any time of the day and Acadia is so close. Thank you Mike for sharing your cottage with us.
This is a wonderful place to spend a week! We loved hanging out on the deck overlooking the water and watching the boats and birds--including a bald eagle that we saw daily. The cabin size and layout were perfect for me, my guy, and our dog. Excellent central location for exploring the island and for easy access to some great nearby trails and Echo Lake. We would love to stay here again!
2nd time staying here and enjoyed it immensely. Can’t beat the view and it is peaceful and quiet. Bear in mind that the cottage is basically one big room; the only privacy inside is the bathroom which is very small. The interior pictures do not do it justice.
The studio cabin was small but comfortable. The borrowed view of Somes Sound made it a perfect, relaxing vacation spot for us on our beloved MDI. To top it all off, we really appreciate it being a pet friendly rental. Thank you for sharing Skywater with us! We will look forward to coming back again.
This enchanting cottage was very private and quiet. The view was amazing! Southwest harbor and Ellsworth are in close proximity and you can find anything you need. Lots of antique stores and farmers markets. The view from Cadillac mountain is breathtaking. Clark point cafe in Southwest harbor is exceptional. We would highly recommend Skywater for a couple who need some relaxation and reconnection. Thank you for letting us share your great cottage by the sea. Stephen and Lorraine.
My husband and I, with our 8 lb dog, had a wonderful visit to Skywater and Mt. Desert Island. The setting on Somes Sound is gorgeous, and we thoroughly enjoyed sitting out on the deck, watching the boats, birds, and beautiful scenery. The cottage is clean and quiet, and had everything we needed for a relaxing vacation. Our major excitement was spotting a bald eagle sitting in a tree less than 100 feet away, perhaps hungrily eyeing our small dog on the deck! We put the dog inside and pulled out our binoculars - magnificent! We would love to return.
This was our second time staying on MDI, and the location here was truly amazing. The house has everything you need and is only a short drive from essentially anything on the island. We didn't realize how much we would enjoy just relaxing on the deck watching the boats and wildlife on the sound. I would absolutely recommend Skywater and could see myself coming back.
My husband, dog and I loved our stay at skywater. The cabin is small, but perfect for us. The views are breath taking. I loved sitting on the back deck in the e sun in the morning and the back deck in the afternoon. There is privacy and stars, sunrises and sunsets and we enjoyed the boats and wildlife. Mike was a great communicator. We loved it!

Thanks Melissa! Hope to have you for another visit soon!
We loved our stay at Skywater. It was close to all of the hiking/attractions of Acadia National Park while being off the beaten path. The location allowed us to avoid the crowds while enjoying the serenity of the area. The back deck encouraged us to enjoy nature (watching the birds, chipmunks, seals and porpoises) and take in the view (I.e the sound and stars). Kayaking with the seals was a great experience as well. The house had everything we needed including delicious locally roasted coffee. We would love to go back and would highly recommend it.
I was in contact with Michael long before we booked our stay and he was sure to reach out to me as soon as the dates were available to book. We booked this house as well as his other property, simple pleasures. The house had everything we needed from firewood to seasonings and cooking supplies. There was extra toilet paper, paper towels, and linens. The view is spectacular and the living area was very spacious. There are kayaks at the property available to use as well! Our dog was able to stay with us for a reasonable fee and it was super dog friendly! We made this trip for our wedding and staying at these properties made the entire trip. We had the best times here and we will be back! Thank you so much Michael!!
I wish I could give "Location and neighborhood" more than 5 stars. The studio is beautifully situated on the quiet side of MDI and has *amazing* views east over the sound. It was a total joy to wake up each morning having breakfast on the porch -- watching birds and boats come and go. The studio itself had everything we needed to be comfortable for the entire week.
Very nice stay here...cabin is complete with everything..i did feel could of been little cleaner..toilet was not completely clean we had to clean some marks off and receipts from previous people on floor by bed.....bed sheets kinda dingy but otherwise fantastic!!
We were overall very happy with our stay at Hall Quarry! The property is absolutely beautiful - it's very relaxing to sit on the porch and look out on the view, particularly during sunrises and sunsets.
There was a heatwave while we were in town and the apartment got above 90 degrees during the day. Since it's getting warmer each summer, I'd recommend installing a window AC unit since it would make the space much more enjoyable and cool. Additionally, it would be great to have a shade on the door to the back porch since it was bright in the mornings.
Michael was easy to work with and provided all of the details we needed to find the property and self check-in. I'd recommend staying here on your next trip to MDI, particularly since it's so close to Bar Harbor, Acadia, and Southwest Harbor!
Skywater is a great place for a couple and a dog(s). It was a great homebase for a day of hiking in Acadia or for a quiet day-in relaxing and sitting on the deck. Michael was very responsive to our one small issue. We appreciated the opportunity to stay outside of Bar Harbor on a quieter side of the island. Skywater is by no means remote. In 15 minutes you can be hiking or in downtown Bar Harbor. Don't overlook Southwest Harbor, there are a bunch of great places to eat. Our dogs loved running around outside unsuccessfully chasing the chipmunks. With that and hiking, they needed a vacation from vacation when we got home. Lastly, if you are a light sleeper, bring a sleep mask, the windows overlooking Somes Sound face East and are illuminated at sunrise. It was a great place to stay and we look forward to coming here again.
This cozy cottage was in an excellent quiet location to explore Acadia National Park. It is on the “quiet side” of the park and you are well insulated from crowds and traffic noise. The views from the patio are beautiful and the ever changing rolling of the fog makes each day’s view unique. The bed was very comfortable and there was a good amount of clothes drawer space. A few minor drawbacks were that there was nowhere to hang a few items of clothing as the wardrobe cabinet was filled with cleaning supplies, there was not a working empty cabinet to store food, the shower is very small which makes it a bit difficult to wash up after a muddy hike or bike, and there were limited hooks to dry out equipment and clothing after exploring the park. However even with these drawbacks I would certainly come back to stay and the positives definitely outweighed the drawbacks. We definitely appreciated that Skywater was pet friendly and there was hose to wash off muddy paws outside and plenty of space in the living room to set up our kennel/dog bed. Michael was easy to contact and there was great communication throughout our stay.
